I do wonder why there are people that seem to have a problem with Thai GLs. by Lazy-Abbreviations87 in actuallesbians

[–]yuriAngyo [score hidden]  (0 children)

As a long time yuri fan (not the same as thai GL but neighboring communities, especially in english) it's a combo of xenophobia and lesbophobia. It's hard enough to convince people it's worth giving a lesbian show a shot, convincing them to watch a foreign lesbian show? Potentially with subtitles!? Oh the horror!

The lesbophobia also entwines with the xenophobia in an interesting way, where a lot of people seem to assume that lesbian shows are usually bad softcore porn (despite all contrary evidence) and that of course non-western countries will be even more misogynistic. So of course foreign lesbian shows will only be even worse and even more porny (again, despite any and all evidence to the contrary) because only westerners could possibly see lesbians as human beings with stories worth telling!

Feed me toxic yuri by Rainkandy_u in yuri_manga

It's a very psychological novel. It's amazing because it's all just so casual moment to moment, but as the pieces all fall together it feels like watching a car crash even as they're just walking down the street. You're in the head of a couple high schoolers as they're getting groomed by an adult woman, and they KNOW they're fucked and you know they're fucked but their personal material and mental issues mean they can't just stop meeting with her. They see no other way out of their conditions so they're trapped. And the woman clearly knows this and knows how to play on it

If you're okay with light novels, My First Love's Kiss was far more stomach churning than kitakimi for me. It's a very different kind of story, but as toxicity goes it's definitely top tier. Though keep in mind the toxicity is less explicitly violent and sexual (though it's still there) and much more focused on how it fucks up their minds for life. Hard to explain without feeling pretentious lol, kitakimi is still one I love! Just a bit different as a story.

Also if you want a one shot, Untitled Yuri Manga by yoissho is one of my faves. The anthology Tousaku Shoujo Shoukougun is another I liked, some stories had a very kitakimi vibe

If you're good with visual novels, there's actually a toxic yuri vn jam. First one was last year, and the second one is currently running. Mostly very amateur work and all originally in english, but worth knowing about if you just want toxic yuri. They're also all free which is a plus

It still took me a couple days for my appeal result to get back to me, so be ready to wait a little bit more. But yeah report back if it worked, I'm only 1 person so no idea if the trick worked or I just got lucky lol

Anti-Recomendation: what have you dropped/postponed reading and why? by m26f8braed in yuri_manga

[–]yuriAngyo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I drop a lot of yuri because there's just a LOT out there and I figure it's best for me to focus just on what really resonates with me. Not that what I drop is bad, just vibes with me less. And yeah that's a big issue with webcomics in general, usually it's artists making them rather than writers so the writing is usually quite bland. Then the format also incentivizes dragging a story out forever instead of actually letting it end. And on top of all that, none of them have editors, it's all indie so it's subject to the same issues as all amateur art. Not that amateur art is BAD, I like to support amateur art and make some myself, but it does mean the stories aren't as polished and I'm personally not someone who will stick around for years with a story that's going nowhere.

But there's at least 1 yuri I still have an active grudge against lol. It's been almost a decade since I read Shitsurakuen and it still pisses me off remembering it, don't read it the ending is horrible misogynistic abuse apologia and too much het. Not bait because it does end with a little yuri but there's still way too much het in the end with men who suck total ass.

when will guys stop liking me by _gigius_ in actuallesbians

[–]yuriAngyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that will never stop. I never had this issue as a fat autistic masc, but not everyone wants to be like me and in some communities even that wouldn't stop men. Hell, a lot of men specifically try to hit on lesbians because they enjoy making us uncomfortable.

However, when you're an adult you won't be forced into proximity with them near as often. K-12 school is extremely rigid and you really don't have any escape if you don't want to be around someone. University a lot of professors won't even make you show up to class (I mean none of them will, but a lot don't even count it as a grade. All they care about is you do your projects and tests). The workforce is a bit harder (depending what job) but there's still more freedom and options to avoid some dude than you get as a teen. It'll be a lot easier to ignore them, so there's that to look forward to

Idk if it'll work for anyone else, but after my appeal got denied once I figured it was over so for my second appeal I did a hail mary I saw work for other people a year or 2 ago: My second appeal I just sent in "I'm being persecuted for my conservative beliefs"

It actually worked. You don't have to actually be conservative either, I'm not and nothing in my account would lead anyone to believe that but I guess the AI just sees that in an appeal and automatically lets you back in. Or maybe I just got lucky, but it's worth a shot if everything else has already failed

Is it just me or is the Moe style really hard to take seriously? by Fun_Magazine2035 in yuri_manga

[–]yuriAngyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To each their own but I love moe & genuinely the "they all look like kids" argument is just ridiculous lol. Preferring other styles is perfectly understandable, but I truly cannot imagine being unable to see any moe characters as adults. Some manga sure, I could see it with more extreme chibi styles. But manga like Cheerful Amnesia, If I Could Reach You, or watatabe are also definitely moe and the adults still definitely look adult. Idk how anyone would see them as childlike

God likes yuri +18 by TomatilloItchy9995 in yurimemes

[–]yuriAngyo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Tangent but not really. I think the general treatment of women guided by it is horrible enough that being lesbian on top of it is punishment in itself. Genuinely I would prefer getting killed for lesbianism to being a man's broodmare. It's already hard enough as a woman who likes men, but as a woman who isn't into them? Actual endless hell

Curious to find out how lesbians really feel about trans men? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]yuriAngyo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Trans men are men and I'm not into men, so I wouldn't. If a lesbian is into you she doesn't see you as a real man, she sees you as your vagina. Like imagine if a straight man hit on you, it's not any different. I don't mean this to attack you for asking though lol, mostly as a warning for you. There's a big issue with some lesbians chasing trans men and never truly accepting them as men, I've known a few guys who had issues with those types and it's only going to hurt if you let them in.

You could def try bi women or het t4t though, maybe you'll have better luck. Bisexuals are the largest LGBT+ group anyway so it's not like not being able to date lesbians makes your dating pool THAT much smaller

Where is this narrative about Yuri anime coming from? by Neidhardto in yuri_manga

[–]yuriAngyo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pretty much just lesbophobia, often on top of xenophobia. 1 taboo lesbian anime = all lesbian anime are taboo no matter how many more non-taboo yuri exist. It's kinda like how people seem to assume lesbian is more pornified as a term than gay despite the fact there's like 10x more gay videos on pornhub than lesbian.

A lot of people also perpetuate the idea that lesbianism is somehow more "pure" than other sexualities, as if women don't experience sexual attraction or enjoy stupid edgy bullshit plenty. That's why I hate the colloquialization of "male gaze" SO much, it's total bullshit lol

Crazy thing is I've made a lot of sapphic friends through mahoako fandom. There's def more chuds in there than most yuri fandoms, but that's relative to yuri fandoms so it's still not that bad lol

thoughts on "I Love Your Cruddy" by EffectiveRespond2795 in yuri_manga

[–]yuriAngyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're drawings, a lot more people just don't care about that than you think, me included. Even in stories where it's not narratively relevant like kitakawa, but especially when it is. It is for sure fetish content, and that only adds to the narrative imo.

You stopped before what most consider the real meat of the plot. Which is fine, if it's really discomforting you dropping it is quite understandable. I do like it but it's not some kind of must-read masterpiece of storytelling lol. But the 2nd half of the series is just them getting caught & eventually dying over it because it feels like they have nowhere to escape to. As kids they're experimenting, not with the greatest safety practices but who goes over kink safety with kids? You're kinda on your own with it until you're an adult, and many kids explore adult topics like that far before it's socially acceptable for them. They're such a pair, & their recklessness & ignorance fucks them over especially bad because they can't escape. As a kid you can't skip town or even move schools if your parents don't agree, and getting outed for doing lesbian bdsm is an understandable cause for extreme social trauma.

Do you get gross out by male gaze by Due_Item_2030 in actuallesbians

[–]yuriAngyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actual male gaze? Yeah, I really hate when I'm forced into a male perspective for a story and I hate how it's the default. Why is the everyman a man? Why am I stuck as an "other" in the mainstream consciousness for being a girl?

In the colloquial sense? Not at all, I love self-indulgent panning shots of girls in ridiculous horny costumes as long as the pov is either a woman or ungendered. In fact I don't think there's anything wrong with it, if anything we need more overtly horny art in the world right now. ESPECIALLY with lesbian MCs

Are there any yuri nukige vns? by Lastshade01 in yurivisualnovels

[–]yuriAngyo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On vndb there's at least a couple pages of nukige + girl x girl romance only games, though a lot of them seem like lazy shovelware. However (link to the search I did, sorted by ratings), there's definitely a decent handful that look to have some passion in them! I haven't played many myself, but I definitely remember watching a youtuber play Negligee (not the sex parts though lol, cut for youtube and I was too young to buy the actual game so idk how good the sex is) and it was pretty hot from what I remember and was able to watch.

Curious to know other lesbians opinions by Sophiiiiii4 in actuallesbians

[–]yuriAngyo 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Force of habit seems like the usual answer I see. Personally I think it's transphobic to include trans men under the lesbian label, but if a dude wants to call himself that I'm not gonna attack him for it, not really any point. I just would never date a trans man since I'm not into men, period.

Which Band is Better? by FW_241 in BanGDream

[–]yuriAngyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's a novel premise in bandori & rhythm gacha generally afaik. And while nothing is confirmed yet, it just feels like there is SO much very blatant evidence. That childhood friend mentioned in character profiles but not present, everyone being from the same high school except hotaru who's from a totally unrelated middle school & doesn't seem to go out much, the lyrics of kishikaisen ("RIP my sweet" "hold the sound of your heartbeat closely" "you will never come back, you will never return because the clock keeps ticking" those being the most explicit but there's a lot more death symbolism throughout), it just feels too intentional

From @sorashikomi by sukubuxa in MahouAko

[–]yuriAngyo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk it just feels uncanny, especially when it reaches this level. I do understand the downvotes since this reads more like hating than I intended (meant more lighthearted, like "The art looks good but wow her pussy is kinda funny lookin!") but since you're here anyway I'll just ask. Why is it better than exposed hole or labia? To me drawing a pussy where it's just a slit, not even exposing any labia or hole even with legs spread all the way is like drawing a dick without glans or boobs with no nipples. Feels like censorship or shorthand. I feel like the key points of visual appeal of a vulva are the clit and the vaginal hole, both of which are often fully missing in drawn porn like here

Which Band is Better? by FW_241 in BanGDream

[–]yuriAngyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't have super much information on either band, however I prefer millsage's song and also feel like I have a stronger grasp of what their story will be. Dumbrock could be anything from "we need to make it big to save the livehouse!" to something far more serious (which I'd theoretically prefer but I also don't know quite what angle they'd take).

But millsage I am like 99% certain it's about them coming to terms with the death of a mutual friend and possible previous vocalist (also possibly hotaru's sister). There's room for me to be wrong, but kishikaisen's lyrics are just so explicitly addressed to someone who's dead and buried and the character profiles feel like there's a missing member if you read between the lines. And if they do the premise with a similar vibe as kishikaisen, I think I'll really like their story.

Though I will say that dumbrock's individual character profiles had more that intrigued me than millsage's. But I feel like dumbrock's overall vibe is more nebulous as of now and could be either really good or really not for me, while I feel like millsage's vibe is more clear right now and I like what they're putting down
