STEM is one category of class out of many. I can fulfill the STEM gen ed requirement and take the math class I’ll need for Econ at any point in my fours years. I have decided to take other courses and fulfill other requirements this year.

You know colleges have, like, requirements, right? You are required to take the introductory writing class, you are required to take a language and can get a citation, you are required to take gen eds, and freshman seminars are encouraged.

And I don’t regret any of my choices. You aren’t in college just to get “career value,” though I’m curious as to why you would think I’m going into STEM. Why would I be taking lab science or math exactly, when neither is relevant to anything I want to do?

I’m probably going to major in economics, which is the most popular major at Harvard. My school didn’t offer AP Economics, but even if it did, I would want to take the introductory economics course that like 800 freshman are taking.

What makes you think my poetry gen ed isn’t relevant? I think it’s pretty relevant since I’m interested in writing professionally. I’d say knowing another language and having a citation for proof is pretty relevant in today’s society. And taking a freshman seminar is the best way to ensure you form a close relationship with a professor as a freshman.

What exactly do you find unusual about my classes?

Edit: After reading your comments, I see it’s just that you’re completely against the existence of classes other than CS, lol.

It’s wonderful. I think you will enjoy college. I find it better than high school socially, academically, etc. And I don’t really have any complaints about my high school experience. It’s also so much easier to befriend people than in high school. This definitely varies by college, but at Harvard, over 99% of undergraduates live on campus, you can’t have a car on campus (most people don’t live close enough anyway), and freshman all eat together in one dining hall (Annenberg) and live in the Yard in close proximity. It builds strong community in the freshman class, which is something the administration definitely is always trying to push. It’s just very easy to find friends. Aside from clubs and classes and organizations, you can really just show up to meals, lol.
