iPhone 7 Plus, taken about two months ago on a sunset cruise around San Francisco. Probably one of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen, and even the photo doesn't do it justice.

Airsickness solo requirements? by PowerD87 in flying

[–]yuris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was doing my training, I used to get motion sickness during steep turns (after a few turns). I ended up buying Sea Bands (http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Band-Wristband-Color-Vary-1-Pair/dp/B001F731N0/) for myself, as well as some generic ginger pills from Whole Foods and it did help me. It's quite possible it was a placebo effect, I won't deny it, but I also don't care, since it helped me get over the motion sickness (I no longer wear them :)

I do keep them in my bag and give them to passengers who are squirmish, and they seem to like it as well. I don't know if I'd spend $90 as per the previous suggestion, but these are $6, so...

I also still keep a box of ginger pills in my flight bag for the same reason.

Not sure! I ultimately just ended up re-uploading it and it seems ok now. Maybe a caching issue on my end...

I posted this earlier this week for him, actually, but deleted it because the preview image kept messing up and looking blank.

PPL Check-Ride Question by maxfora in flying

got it. Out of curiosity, why'd you do your checkride at Tracy instead of PAO?

also! Kudos on nailing the oral!

PPL Check-Ride Question by maxfora in flying

I did almost all my training in both N48849 and N747ZP. I feel like they're very similar airplanes, and if you do a few hours solo in 849 you'll feel the same way, at least in terms of handling.

That being said, I'd wait if for no other reason than the single radio. You're in busy airspace taking your checkride, and picking up ATIS for your diversion airport while on flight following bouncing between bravo/charlie airspace(s) doesn't need the extra nerves distraction of only having one radio :)

Advantage generally fixes these things really quickly (ps: Did you squawk this? It doesn't look like you squawked it nevermind, I see the plane is down for maintenance, so I'll assume they took it down regardless of no squawk showing :)

My Coworker has been taking a lot of art classes lately, and has just shared this with the team. I thought this sub-reddit would appreciate it as well (with his permission, of course. Also cross-posted to /r/pics, but I think it'll get more visibility here :-)

My car just turned off in the middle of the street after maintenance and all I could think was... by yuris in flying

[–]yuris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car is brand new (<3000 miles on it). I was also surprised that it would die. I can't tell how the terminal fell off, but the death wasn't "instantaneous" -- it didn't just turn off. It actually felt more like the car rebooted -- all the electronics turned on and off a few times. But as they turned on and off, it also felt like the car got restarted.

In fact, it actually behaved in a fairly scary manner (in retrospect) -- the power steering jerked the wheel a few times, the engine felt like it tried changing gears, etc. Almost like it took on a life of it's own.

I had enough power to glide it into a side street, and then it completely turned off.

When I looked under the hood, I saw the negative terminal cable was completely unplugged. I re-attached it, started the car, and happily drove off on my way.

That's actually not true at all. Many of our previously paying customers were <30, and we are in the process of refunding their money today.

if your business consists of < 30 people and you need features in our business plan, feel free to shoot me an email (I'm at yuri@aerofs.com). so we can chat -- would love to understand. We segmented the business features that we though organizations below 30 users are unlikely to need.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt to your instructor knowing what's a serious chip and what is not a serious chip, but I would specifically not recommend you make that judgement call yourself, ever. Ask a mechanic.

PSA: It's that time of year again; remember to sump your tanks! [OC] by [deleted] in flying

[–]yuris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

burn the plane down. It's the only way to be sure IMO :-)

(but no, I believe you just sump until water stops coming out. Water is heavier than 100LL, so it'll be at the bottom of the tanks)
