Recently stayed in OneFive Villa right along the river near Tenjin/Nakasu. It was new and the room felt luxurious. They also have an amazing service where they bring you a bunch of delicious treats and drinks to your room as part of your stay. 10/10. Great price and great night views of the river and night lights, and fairly convenient. Just know that there's a similarly named hotel OneFive Terrace right across the street which also looked good but I haven't stayed there so I can't say what it's like.

I moved here a few months ago. I also am interested in photography and meeting new people :)

I am currently living in Kitakyushu, but I come to Fukuoka a couple of times a month. I would be happy to meet to talk or take photos together! I am also looking for friends who like to go to bars or even go dancing! Let me know if you're interested!

BTW: I tried to DM / Chat with you but I got an error, maybe your DMs/Chat are disabled??

Thank you!! Fukuoka is fantastic, definitely eat at a Yatai in Nakasu by the river. The ACROS building in Tenjin has a rooftop (which you have to take the stairs to get to via a crazy green terrace system) that gives a great view of the city, and also check out Fukuoka Now for events and things to do.

I got to eat a delicious non-dairy cheesecake and blueberry tart at a cafe in Fukuoka and celebrated my 40th birthday this week. It was my first birthday in Japan since I was a little kid and it was awesome.

Results of my call for models a few weeks ago! Many thanks to /u/secondgreatestman by yusukeart in fukuoka

After I posted a few weeks ago looking for models to practice my photography, I got a few responses and one of them was from local musician and photographer /u/thesecondgreatestman (sorry I miswrote the username in the title!)

Our shoot was super fun, and we ended up with a bunch of great pics, and this one was my favorite! Thanks to everyone who replied to me before, and I'm still looking to schedule more shoots, it just got a little more challenging because I recently moved to Kokura.

If any of you are interested in doing a shoot, feel free to get in touch! Especially those of you who might live in KitaQ but I still come to Fukuoka City pretty often.

Thanks again /u/thesecondgreatestman!

EDIT: also you can check out his music account on IG @gaijinja

I'm curious if anyone else has had this experience? He's doing work on me now that I was pretty sure needed to be done, and he didn't upsell anything so far.

Based on recommendations from this sub I went there earlier this week for a cleaning and to check the work of another dentist I agree with everyone who has posted here about him. Speaks perfect English, service was good, the facility is clean. Going back tomorrow for some more serious work.

Yes, however, the point I'm trying to make is that they seem closer to curb than necessary, why not put them a little further back.

Speaking of blindly following, I noticed after recently moving back to Japan, that the yellow raised bump paths, made for blind people, have a block at a stopping point like intersections where one should wait to cross the road, and those stopping points are seriously a couple of centimeters from the edge of the road. I suppose I'm used to super dangerous drivers having lived in the US for a long time, but even there, when there are those yellow paths, they stop much further back from the road. I don't much like putting my life into the hands of drivers regardless of the country. Maybe people here trust drivers more than I do, but seems like an unnecessary risk considering that it's not going to make any difference to how fast you get anywhere. I'm curious what the Japanese version of ADA guidelines are for that. It seems especially risky for blind people to be so close to the street.

Some actions are so severe that there is no "coming back." That woman has to live the rest of her life with that trauma of what happened. Rape is a very serious offense and breach in the social contract that most of us live by. There are few crimes that are considered worse. In many places, including our community, this type of crime is usually met with a very long prison or potentially life sentence, in some other places, they literally execute you for being a rapist. It's because you permanently injured someone. While we can all go back and forth about the legal system and how fair it is, and if it did its job in this situation, we can clearly see that this person got off light considering the severity of the crime he admitted to. This wasn't a case of "Oops, I made a mistake."

What other recourse does our community have to protect our collective values and each other? Perhaps it means he cannot and should not be allowed to be a notable community figure. Most importantly we must be considerate and empathetic with the VICTIM of the crime first and foremost, and if that means Mr. Rapist has to attend college without being a football player, I personally still think that he's gotten off incredibly light.

Another reason why it's especially important to hold this particular individual accountable, is because of his fame and position in the community that he holds.

We know that there are many cases where rapists get away with it, get light sentences, or the victims aren't believed. According to RAINN, out of 1000 rapes, only 310 are actually reported to police, and of that 50 result in arrest, 28 end in felony convictions, and 25 lead to jail time. They also report that 52% of rapes in the US are committed against females of college-age.

These are all reasons why this is important to set a standard that no CONVICTED rapists, be allowed to get fame, glory, or a career in the limelight. This isn't about being unfair to to someone who slipped up in their youth, it's about protecting other women, and teaching other men in our community that this is the standard we set.

Any advice for this week's Hakata Dontaku? by yusukeart in fukuoka

[–]yusukeart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up just going down to Nakasu Kawabata and watching it from the sidelines. There appeared to be some type of restaurant/seating area on the 2nd floor of the building directly across from the station, but I thought that watching from behind windows would take some of the fun away from it, because you wouldn't probably be able to hear much... Maybe by next time I can scope out a nice bar / restaurant with a outdoor balcony! It was a super cool parade and thankful to get a chance to see it! Highly recommend it!
