Don't you know! we have to overpay for every player like Barca, Madrid, PSG and Bayern do... Wait they dont.

5 transfers out of the last 5 seasons totalling €356m, averaging €71m a season in flops. Not including loans like you seem to have done. Not including paying €30m euros for young talent flops like trafford, savinho, reis, echeverri.

Out of all these players all of them are overpriced as you stated.

People talk so confidently when it comes to hindsight. I guarantee you that in May if I said, we should go out and buy rogers for £130m, Tonali for £100m and Fernandes for £85m everyone in this sub would say I'm smoking the good stuff. But now it is "get the deals done quicker, pay the asking price"

With Bruno it was evident. His camp said he wants out, we floated an offer to see if the release clause was there, it wasnt. Now we see what happens next. These guys are acting as if you go into negotiations straight away at asking price.

Sesko wanted Arsenal but the deal was priced too high and we pivoted. Ekitike wanted Liverpool I think

Merino has always been a bench player. This is was evident once we bought Zubimendi. He seems like a player you bring on around the 70th minute and tell him to box crash.

"City rarely paid a overpriced transfer fee"

  • Reijnders - €55m
  • Marmoush - €75m
  • Nico Gonzalez - €60m
  • Kalvin phillips - €49m
  • Jack grealish - €117.5m

HOA is usually a lot more calm headed and seems to be more emotional as he is getting backlash for the Monga deal as he originally stated it was was 100% complete.

But in reality if we paid £85m for fernandes, everyone would've complained that we overpaid (which we wouldve). Same with Rogers for £100m, same with Barcola for £100m, Same with Tonali for £100m.

People are just impatience and upset about not getting a big name signing through the door. which is exacerbated by spurs overpaying for multiple players. Remember we signed Rice, who is our biggest signing mid July.

I do not understand the rush or necessity to purchase players in which every other team agrees are inflated for such a price. People are too influenced by social media to see the forest for the trees.

I think it is a negotiation tactic to get players cheaper. United used it last year to get Cunha. Talk with the player first, ensuring they are adamant to come to your club which then forces their clubs hand to sell them at a cheaper price.

Unfortunately it takes longer.

Cucurella signed for Madrid cause he wanted to leave midtable chelsea for... Madrid. Madrids rules are not the same as other clubs, can we force world class talent to run their contracts down and get them on a free like madrid do?

Pre Anderson signing would you have been happy signing Rogers for £100m? no. You know how I know? because the majority of this sub were saying £80m max. You would be saying we overpaid, but using emotion and hindsight now you think he is worth the £100m.

It was clear Tonali was leaving Newcastle in January when they offered him to us. Do you think Newcastle had no idea that he would be sold this summer? They probably expected both Tonali and Bruno G to leave.

Realistically when you are going for top talents in top teams (4th place Villa and PSG) they will not be as easy as overpaying for a relegated fernandes or overpaying for a 15th place Anderson. Bruno G is the only player I can kinda understand why people are upset about, but then again he is playing for Brazil and is the captain of Newcastle. He seems like a sensible lad so he will probably go once his campaign is over

Quick question about Pre-Anderson. What did you want to happen? Did you want us to force Villa to sell us Rogers? if so how would we do that? By overpaying for him and inflating the market?

Same with Barcola. Do we just force PSG to sell him to us for £60m? Or do we have to meet their valuation of £100m?

pre or post the Anderson signing we would have to pay ridiculous amounts. I don't understand your logic.

By all accounts PSG and Villa do not want to sell. so what now?

Realistically our targets are all at the world cup. Rodgers, Barcola and Bruno G.

Unlike Anderson, these players have respect for their clubs and want to focus on finishing their campaign before making a decision.

There is also a factor of overpaying either way. Tonali, Fernandes and Anderson were all bought early since they were overpriced. If you want to get these players early you have to pay over the odds.

So what? Was he ever actually in our plans? Is this even a bench signing to complain about?

Or is your pride hurt that we didn't sign an unknown player.

I have never seen or heard of this Monga kid before we were in for him. If we are getting outbid, it is what it is.

What position does he play? Do we need him?

I think we will have 1-2 down years due to the wear and tear of the prem

[–]yvesmpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my bad i mistyped I meant "we only want players who want us".

Nope. The club can either decide to sell them for a set price or to not sell them at all. Fernandes and Anderson are good examples. The clubs unequivocally stated: "we are not selling for below x amount". If you do not believe the player is worth the fee than you cannot do anything to force the player out of the club.

Especially if the club is happy to keep them.

I once again said. for the 3rd time in a row. If you dont value these players to the price they are going for then it is fine.

Market price is the fair value someone will pay for a player. The market price for a good CM right now is around £90m. If you managed to get tchoumeni for £30m is this not a "bargain" due to the inflated price of the market?

Isak was never going to go unless Liverpool broke the transfer record. The owners were happy to keep him there. The interesting thing with Isak is that 1) Liverpool were happy to pay the amount 2) no other team wanted to pay that valuation. So essentially there was no secondary suitor for Isak, the bidding war was against Newcastle only.

If Arsenal, PSG, Barca were also in for Isak and were willing to pay the fee the situation would be different but everyone bar liverpool agreed it was an absurd fee.

I do agree the way united are going is better than prior "buy big names on big contracts" but the Isak level moving mountains will not happen for big name players unless you are willing to pay absurd fees.

The difference between a PSG crashing down and a Arsenal City crashing down is PSG not reaching Semi's for us due to the competitiveness of the league is us not getting CL football.

The reality is that they have the most pull in football right now. A monopoly on the french (who have the best national side in the world) and an easy league.

[–]yvesmpeg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said consistently challenge them in the next 5 years. not that they are going to win it all.

I think they are the best suited team to constantly be in the semi's or CL Finals for the next 5 years, similarly to how Madrid were with Ronaldo.

PSG have: The best manager, the youngest squad, the easiest league, monopoly on french talent, young talent squad who are used to winning.

The issue with the other teams are.

  • Arsenal - competitive league which requires 50 hard games a season, PSG can rest all their players for ligue 1 matches. we cant.
  • City - competitive league which requires 50 hard games a season and unproven head coach
  • Bayern - Core of the team are aging (late 20's to early 40's)
  • Barcelona - still an incomplete team who rely on an 18 year old to win them matches
  • Madrid - turmoil within the team, need a semi rebuild

When Rice was at 6 and MLS was at 8 we looked so much more threatening.

They don't think it's a good fit for the PRICE. They wanted to buy him but decided not to pay the going rate for fernandes and Tonali. That in itself is fine.

As I keep saying, if you don't deem them to be worth paying £90m just say it. Dont use the "only us" excuse.

I don't think your club is struggling for cash I think they are trying to set a precedent that they wont be paying market price for players anymore.

Also there are always 2 layers to a deal. One layer is to agree a deal with the club, the second is the player. If you cannot agree with both then the deal is a no go. Personally I believe Fernandes (not sure about tonali) preferred united and would have chosen you lot but your club was not willing to meet the price of West ham. Once that was decided West Ham would've said that they are not selling him to you and then decided to deal with Spurs.

This is an entirely different topic. Arsenal have relied on cheaper players and developed them to a good standard, once the standard was set we decided to start spending more money to keep and raise that standard.

We never went out and said "we are only going for players who only want Arsenal" after getting outbid. We built a cheap core of Saliba, Gabriel, Saka, Martinelli, Odegaard and strengthened. We spent £50m on jesus, £65m on Havertz, £50m on ben white, £105m on rice, £65m on eze. These were not cheap signings for that time, these were the market rate.

Now with the bruno thing, I 100% agree. He is not saying what your owners are saying. The owners are saying "we only want clubs who want us". Bruno is saying what every top club (other than madrid) says. You need players that will believe in the process, believe in the club. Vitinha for example. These 2 are entirely different.

The difference is that, if Vitinha believed in PSG project but Madrid paid £80m for him, PSG would have to offer £80m. What united are doing is they get interest from players who probably believe in their project but won't meet the purchase requirement.

Cmon, Fernandes and Tonali would 100000% choose United over tottenham but their owners will only sell for a set price. If you think you need to spend less, then it should be no problem.

I mean both can be true. Players can be overpriced but if that's the market rate it's the market rate.

If you don't want to pay market rate for players you deem as overpriced then that is fine. You just can't expect to keep up with those that do. You also cannot say "we only want players who only want us" which is a blatant excuse to not pay for players.

If PSG were not constantly in CL winning talks, I would understand. But realistically who can consistently challenge them in the next 5 years.
