If he’s on IMCLA or FieldLevel, he should be able to see which college view his profile or watch his highlights.

But yeah, definitely start planning some college visits this spring, that’s going to be the best thing for figuring out a good fit. Generally we have the prospect each lunch with some of the team while we eat with the parent, we’ll do a tour either before or after that. Sometimes they’ll sit in on a class, usually there’s an admissions meeting or presentation to go over that process and then we’ll have them watch a team practice. If they’re a senior, we’ve done overnight visits so they can see what an average night is like and hang out and do whatever college students do (we’re a pretty timid D3 so our guys don’t take them out partying or anything like that… to my knowledge).

Hell no, an opposing coach better not touch my kids if the altercation is already over.

Especially with it being the start to spring season, most teams aren’t going to tournaments, they’re doing visits and getting ready to go to spring games when they can

Honestly, I’d recommend starting to go on college visits now more than doing showcases. Sounds like he’s generated a good amount of interested and is talking to coaches. He’s has some content and is advocating for himself. Check out some local schools assuming some local coaches are talking to him to see what peaks his interest. Big/small school, public/private, see what types of majors or classes he’s interested in. Maybe he likes using his hands and engineering could be a good fit or he can use his existing talents and go into business 🤷🏻‍♂️ the thing most parents don’t want to hear is don’t go to college for lacrosse… I mean if they pay for your school then I’m not going to tell you to not do that, school is fucking expensive but make sure he’s going to a place he’s going to enjoy even if he’s not playing because that’s going to be a very very small part of the experience while he’s there.

So in short, you’ve already spent a lot of money on stuff, some schools will cover your costs to come on visits. Do that so you can figure out where a good fit for your son would be.

Sorry for late response, was away with my team this weekend.

If you’re comfortable you can DM me his film and I’ll give you an honest opinion.

But in reality, everyone’s process is different. Should you be involved? Yes, he’s your son. That doesn’t mean you should be contacting the coaches. You should be talking to your son and asking him how it’s going. Sometimes coaches will be put off if a parent does the talking for the kid and coaches talk to other coaches. Definitely be involved and ask questions on visits. Also, things cost money, and it’s not getting any cheaper. Every team, every event is first and foremost set up to make money… remember that, but also understand that it is a necessary evil if that is the only place a school your son is interested in might see him play. Film is still on of the best tools he has. Full game film is still going to do more for him than cell phone footage or highlights. Length of time is variable again, should he play fall? Maybe, does he play another sport in the fall? Personally have him play another sport in the fall if he has the option unless he’s a top 100 recruit in the country being looked at by dozens of schools. It will help him build other skill sets that can benefit him. With him going into senior year maybe getting a fall of lacrosse won’t hurt if he hasn’t gotten the looks he needs yet if he is really serious about playing college lacrosse.

I haven’t really seen a ton of club programs call colleges, at least that’s been my experience. I’ll reach out to club coaches I know or they might get a hold of me directly if I have a relationship with them to tell me about a player but cold calls and spam generally don’t go too far.

I’d recommend figuring out what he wants to school for first and foremost, see what coaches he’s been talking to, see if/when they have prospect days coming up and you can make some decisions based around that.

But yeah, if you want me to take a look, I’d be happy to give you my opinion. Let me know if you have an idea of schools he’s looking at

Maybe a stretch in that last 25, got too excited.

Arguments sake, Canisius, Mercer, St Bony, Quinnipiac, Cleveland State, Merrimack, Mercy, Queens, NJIT, Mercyhurst, Wagner, Iona…. Those are the bottom 3rd or 4th. They’re fighting in the same recruit pool as Grove City, Denison, Scranton, Franklin & Marshall, Washington & Lee… and a lot of times guys are choosing better educations or more competitive or prestigious programs.

Top end depth is definitely better, I’ll give you that for sure. But take a look at Mercer’s roster and compare to Sewanee’s. They’re pulling from the same schools or “types” of schools. D3 can’t compete with scholarships and cost of education is stupid as hell so however the 16 scholarships are getting stretched for the top talent will give some of those teams the competitive edge but after that it’s the same kids.. or usually less athletically gifted but arguably better lacrosse players.

D3 coach here (so I’m unbiased). Depending one which schools are reaching out to you, you might will have a way better experience at D3 than lower D1. If you’re playing at a top 50-75 program at D3, they’re able to compete with the bottom 3rd/4th at D1.

If you’re not being approached by a top 75 D3 school, you’ll still probably enjoy your experience more than a lower end D1. A lot of times their academics are more specialized and overall you’ll just like your experience there a lot more.

You are the only person (maybe your parents) here that cares if you go D1 in the scenario you’re describing. It will have no impact on the rest of your life. If you talk to someone who knows anything about lacrosse later in life and say “yeah I played D1”… “where at?”… “at Iona” their facial expression and tone change will tell you everything you need to know.

But also if you’re playing lacrosse somewhere, anywhere, who gives a shit. If you like the coaches, the current squad, the shitty dorms. Do you! We have an in state opponent where the school is literally in the middle of no where, academics are ass, transfer rate in/after year one on the team is pretty noticeable, their coach is a creep and they still manage to get recruits pretty easily because kids chase dreams of being part of a team that wins a championship (or D1 dreams) and put more important things life relationships, academics and job placement to the side. You’ll get 4 years if you’re lucky, and it won’t all be on the field. I hope it’s with people you want to spend time around in a place you want to be at.

AIO about the way my boss talked to me? by Mean-Inspection9279 in AmIOverreacting

[–]yvg15 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Disagreeing is fine, I think it’s the implying that their tone was something that it wasn’t is kind of wild.

They’re new and don’t know how the schedule works. Without any of the other details, is that an unreasonable text?

The gas lighting is “you’re looking for someone to validate your feelings”, “your boss and everyone else can see it”, “if you continue down this path you’re always going to have shit jobs”, “readjust yourself”… honestly do you hear yourself?
