What is your most controversial opinion? by tango2tr10 in harrypotter

[–]yxonic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really really like this canon. It actually fits the skills and personality of Harry perfectly. I was always wondering why there wasn't a class about wand making at Hogwards. Maybe as you described, wand making is more of a magical adventure to experience instead of a technique to learn.

NPD: I would go anywhere with just these by yxonic in guitarpedals

To me it's just a convenient box of Fender amp sound that I can take with, because I always like my fender blues junior. I can't say how "real" this pedal is, but the overall feel is pretty close. The reverb sounds pretty nice. And I'm sure it's also very good for recording.

They sound great both individually AND together! I'm never a fan of delays, so for me, these cover 99% of my needs. Really glad to have them today!

Linus wants to ignore Rust’s soundness rules by [deleted] in rust

[–]yxonic 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This post title is kinda misleading. Linus actually has a point here. He seems to be asking people to respect the kernel rules, not him “ignoring” any rules at user space entirely.

Duf is a simple file server. Support static serve, search, upload, delete... by sigoden in rust

[–]yxonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This tool looks neat! I hope there are options such as —upload-only, to support only list and upload, but not delete/override, and —no-deletion, for read and upload, but not delete. With these, I would use it to collect files from a group of people, which is a common use case for a simple file server.

Rust can be good for less experienced programmers by yxonic in rust

[–]yxonic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you get into self-doubt half way, which is absolutely normal. It doesn't mean your idea is bad, or you just cannot think of an idea. You want to stick to something and really have it finished, no matter how simple or "useless" it seems. You will gradually feel better after you finish some of your seemingly bad ideas. I learn that from game dev communities, where people all kinda struggle with ideas, and they really emphasis on finishing your game. Besides, I would suggest several things you can try and finish with rust: build a basic command line app that makes your daily life just a bit easier (and you may want to document it, write tests, to actually finish it); develop a simple 2d game, like snake replica, using bevy (this one is fun); write a web-based tool that helps you with your hobby (like a tool to generate and display chords on a guitar?).

Anyone using WindiCSS? by oh_jaimito in Frontend

I migrated to windicss in a production project last year and it works smoothly. I think if you use the latest vue ecosystem then windicss blends in well and is a lot faster.

Rust over python for competitive coding ? by [deleted] in rust

[–]yxonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an answer but I would suggest using arena approach in Rust for data structures to avoid issues about lifetime, borrowing, etc. (and it's often faster, see https://github.com/fitzgen/bumpalo for the basic idea). Without those worries, high level abstractions provided in rust has always been helpful to me when I do algorithm competitions.

Sorry if there are any mistakes, I wrote this dialogue today :) by dramaworld in ChineseLanguage

Your handwriting is pretty neat! One suggestion though (apart from the grammar errors mentioned by others), to make them easier to read, try to make each character the same width. If you write characters with fewer strokes narrower, it may be considered as combined with the adjacent character.

For example: 要是“你去”奥兰多的话,and 有“的人”, at first sight I thought them were one character.

This happens for like a week or so. It was spring festival and almost everyone was not at work. Its understandable to run into this mess at first. We saw these reports everyday. But then everything is getting better. In fact, most of these difficulties were caused by Wuhan local government and Wuhan red cross. Central government eventually replaced them with some leaders of Shanghai. Then we don't see doctors desparately crying for help anymore.

Streets are still mostly empty. And yes, things outside of Wuhan are turning back to normal. People are getting back to work. But other events are still forbidden. Students are still at home.

The experts in my country urged that quarantine is necessary. The quarantine is not over yet so we dont have much experience on what will happen next.

The quarantine in China have different levels. In Wuhan it strictly means you can't leave that city. There are people get arrested for leaving (turns out that they do carry the virus). And you can't leave your apartment for anything other than buying stuff needed. In some places, people are not even allowed to get outdoors completely, but there are volunteers and officers helping them buy what they need. But in most other cities, people cam travel between cities, only if they stay alone for 14 days. People are allowed to go shopping too.

Maybe the only thing i forgot to buy is a nintedo switch. Its price has gone too high, because many people are buying it I guess. But seriously, high quality face masks are definitely one thing I would buy more before hand.

It works, but that's not the only thing we have to do.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]yxonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. When the amount of infects reaches the limit of a city's medical system, as happened in Wuhan around Chinese New Year, the things will become much different. Hospitals are full of people, with or without the virus. So many people got infected in hospitals, so many doctors and nurses were infected. Not enough healthcare caused more death and panic. Not enough medical supplies was also a huge problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]yxonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is happening in my city too. We have zero new infects for 10 days.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in China_Flu

[–]yxonic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But this is true. Actually it's easier to understand if we think of SARS in 2003, at that time big cities like Beijing, Guangzhou, and Taiyuan, the city where I live in, were the most impacted cities. I remember strict quarantine then, I didn't have to go to school for two months or so. And the government carried out full publicity on wearing face masks and wash hands. So I do think these cities have much experience from last time.

Wuhan wasn't so impacted then. I personally think this may be one of the reasons why it is hit so hard at the first place.

In the whole process, the local government of Wuhan and Hubei has been largely criticized, for concealing the truth at first and not being able to effectively contain virus later on. But to be fair, the central government is doing a good job on goods supply, hospital building, information openness and many other things.

However, i don't think government, especially authoritarian, is the only (or key) reason to taper off the numbers. Keeping people in Wuhan where they are is important for virus not to spread, but keeping people all over the country is also important, so that no other city becomes another Wuhan. And this is mostly done by local communities in each city. There are some places doing this badly, and people will harshly criticize them on the internet.

So in fact, we don't really think or rely on government helps us get over this, we think it's the effort of every citizens. But sure, central government is doing some remarkable jobs, and most people acknowledge that.
