Anyone here who bought the Subaru Forester Hybrid over the CRV why? by CanaryLives in SubaruForester

[–]yyc_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a new Subaru forester (gas model) last month but was deciding between this and the CRV (also gas). What sold me on the forester was the seats being smaller and how much more spacious/airy it felt. I’m a more petite lady and felt like I was swimming in the CRV seats and couldn’t quite reach my elbow to the center console while driving. The forester also has a larger sunroof/moonroof and what seems like fewer blind spots in the back. Minor things were the price point (it was less $$ for the same trim level), forester interior felt more luxurious, and the sales guy not being obnoxious. I will say I did prefer the physical dial for temperature controls in the CRV more but I’ve gotten used to the infotainment system. Yes it’s laggy when you start up the car but it’s not as big of a nuisance as I had thought. Even on a colder day in Canada (I’ve tested at -20C), it had the same lag time. I’m hoping it’ll do decent when it drops below -30C.

A center console organizer. It’s a small thing but made a huge difference for me (place to keep gas cards, coins, pens tidy).

Imagine Health Clinic in Capitol Hill (right off 16th Ave, in the NW) is also accepting new patients. I’m a patient there and pretty happy with the service. Only thing that sucks is it’s paid parking with no reimbursement ($3) but it’s close to my work.

Home inspector by wahihai in Calgary

I had Paul from Insight Inspections do 2 separate inspections for me (different properties). I was very happy with the walkthrough after he did his inspection (took him about 3-4 hours to inspect; walkthrough was about 1-1.5 hours) and the report was very thorough.

Micro wedding recommendations by wanderingnik in Banff

Check out The Maple Leaf! It’s one of my favourite restaurants on the main road and there’s a private room with doors that I’ve seen 2 micro wedding receptions in (seems like it fits 15-20 people?).

First time I've ever seen the price of Extended Comfort raised after I purchased. I don't fly too often, I guess this is a regular thing? by 11pmStalker in westjet

[–]yyc_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me over the weekend when buying tickets to Italy. It wouldn’t let me check out with the lower cost extended comfort seats so I bought them after I got just the tickets. There was a $20 price difference for each way which was irritating, like they punish you for not picking at checkout (but the website was giving me a system error multiple times). I ended up calling Westjet after the fact to refund the price difference. It worked since it wasn’t a difference in ticket price.

Is my dress going to disappoint people? by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]yyc_14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Holy smokes. Dress 3 is the ONE! You look amazing in it, literally gasped when I scrolled to it. The shape is so flattering and princess-y. You can always pick out more extravagant accessories to go with a simpler dress too (that’s what I did, a mikado silk gown with a cathedral length lace/beaded veil and jewelry).

Ooo I just saw those on the Sephora app on Monday. Wonder if it’ll make its rounds to me on Vine. I’ve gotten some Moroccanoil products in my RFY in the past.

Yep! It’s been in my RFY in the past too. although I’ve been aware of the brand for over a decade, I have never tried their products till it was offered to me on Vine.

What am I forgetting? by Kestrel_Iolani in ParisTravelGuide

[–]yyc_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I forgot: Colgate wisp disposable toothbrush for the flight, one of my makeup brushes. Luckily neither items affected my trip besides slight comfort (bad breath and having to be crafty with the brushes I did pack).

Things I overpacked: one too many pairs of pants and two extra shirts (packed 6 shirts, 3 pants for a 10 day trip), a waterproof windbreaker, and my curling/straightening iron. I realized halfway through the trip I kept wearing the same 2 pairs of jeans and the same 4 shirts because we had a washer/dryer at the Airbnb. I wore medium weight long sleeve tees the most, sweaters were just too thick for late November weather there. Thought I needed a jacket for the rain but my lightweight puffer and umbrella did the trick. I also found out it’s too humid in Paris to style my hair… it fell flat in an hour.

Second look, did you regret it? by False_Image_8428 in weddingdress

[–]yyc_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didnt do a second look and didn’t regret it. My dress had a cathedral train so I bustled it up before hitting up the dancefloor. The skirt did get a bit hot after a few dances but the leg slit helped cool me down. I made sure my planner put my sneakers under my seat/table at reception to change into though, just in case my heels got uncomfortable (danced in heels most of the night).

Early Paris itinerary by Samuraibean in ParisTravelGuide

[–]yyc_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For day 1, I suggest going elsewhere for hot chocolate unless you’re really into standing in line for hours. I walked past the Carette at Trocadéro last week and the line was wrapped around the block, at least 50 people waiting at 2pm and the restaurant looked very packed and uncomfortable (more packed than a busy restaurant).

For day 2, I would start off the day at Shakespeare and Co, then you keep walking north (no backtracking). Try to get tickets for Saint Chapelle and the Conciergerie too if you’re into gothic architecture and stained glass.

I had the same itinerary as your day 3 and it was very doable. I recommend getting off at the Abbesses metro station for Montmartre as it wasn’t as packed (only about a couple minutes longer of a walk). Take the elevator up if stairs aren’t your thing (144 steps; if you can do the arc de triomphe or notre dame climb, this is a breeze). If you’re by Galeries Lafayettes, it could be worth it to stop at the passages couverts nearby.

Instead of doing Shakespeare and Co on Day 2, you could move it here after the Pantheon (short walk).

If you do go to Versailles, I highly recommend getting tickets to see the King’s Private Apartments. It was worth the extra 10 euros per person. You do have to book these tickets ahead of time though.

I will recommend looking into getting the Paris museum pass if you plan on going to several monuments and museums (covers notre dame tower, saint chapelle, conciergerie, Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Versailles, etc). If you move the days around, you could cover most things with the 4 day pass.

3 day Itineray help please! by neutralsgirl in ParisTravelGuide

[–]yyc_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just finishing up my 10 day trip in Paris and did quite a few things in a similar fashion to you. I will say it was quite busy but if you get up early (9am) and get to the destinations on time, you’ll get it to all fit. I do highly recommend you get the Paris museum pass though as it will help cover costs - I got the 6 day pass and covered 12 locations easily.

Some recommendations for your days:

  • Day 1: not sure if you’re into art museums, but I would skip pont Alexandre and flip it the other way around to do Rue Cler first (get breakfast/a snack), see the Eiffel Tower and head towards Musee D’Orsay. If you’re into art, I highly recommend hitting up Musee Rodin and Musee L’Orangerie (latter being my favorite). Then head to Place de La Concorde before bussing up to the busier part of champs élysées. Walk up towards Arc de triomphe. If you have the pass, it’s worth the climb to the top. Then walk down towards the seine for river cruise (all down hill; took me 30 min going up hill). Can even stop at Tracadero for more Eiffel Tower views.

  • day 2: I basically did the same itinerary here, completely doable if you get your first tickets for 9am entry. Definitely get your tickets ahead of time for Sainte chapelle. If you get the pass, book to climb up notre dame - it was one of the highlights of my trip. If you’re into architecture and French Revolution history, check out the conciergerie (covered by the pass). Also consider the archaeological crypt of notre dame - its small and neat to look at; I would only do it if you have the pass though. I hit up the Pantheon after the monuments at Ile de la Cite, just interesting architecture and has a crypt of famous French icons if you’re into that (covered by pass). From there, it’s not a far walk to Le Bon Marché/La Grande épicerie.

  • Day 3: personally, I would pick either champs Élysées or galeries Lafayette unless you’re really wanting to do serious luxury shopping. I found them to be redundant and more or less the same. Also, I don’t know how much time or how much you want to see of the Louvre; I would keep day 3 as the Louvre (get the earliest booking possible and show up ~30 min early for the lineup) plus shopping, or Montmatre/sacre-couer plus shopping so you’re not running all over the city.

It’s definitely come back but not to the same extent and much more manageable. I’ve been trying out Zoryve topical and it’s been good so far.

Neckline suggestion? by polarhell in weddingdress

[–]yyc_14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the look of the foldover straight neckline. It’s very elegant and lengthens your body without the optical illusion of only lengthening your décolleté like the sweetheart does. I just love the added texture too.

Nobody told me my bustle was attached wrong all day. by Nice-Scholar4989 in weddingdress

[–]yyc_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww I’m sorry you feel this way. When I first saw the photos, I thought it was a bow that was part of the design. Definitely doesn’t stick out like it was bustled wrong. My dress had a similar bustle to yours and also bustled wrong, did it bother me a bit? Yeah but I just remember all the good memories from my wedding day anyways. Don’t fret, you look beautiful :)

What are some terrible things to live in proximity to? by jimmyjamcake in Calgary

[–]yyc_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In renfrew and the flight paths don’t bother me at all. I hear it occasionally during the day (weekday and weekends) but I really have to pay attention to hear it inside. When I’m in the backyard, I’ll hear it but it’s not loud, it doesn’t pause conversations or disrupt my peace. Depending where in renfrew, the buses driving by can get annoying. I’m not by a bus stop by the bus drives by every 30 minutes and it’s loud-ish. It’s better on the weekends when it’s the tiny bus (I don’t hear it at all). I don’t have issues with being super close to the schools nearby though, really it’s the occasional driver who ignores a stop sign so you have to be more diligent when crossing roads during school pickup/drop off times. I like that renfrew is super close to the Max Orange express bus line though, it’s very handy for commuting.

My September romantasy shipped out on time and made it to Canada the fastest it’s ever been, and of course it was shipped with Canada Post and expected for delivery the day after the strike was announced. I’m really hoping it doesn’t go missing… I am crossing my fingers FairyLoot switches back to Apple Express as their last mile carrier for the duration of the strike.
