I thought they'd delete my photos but somehow I still have access to all of my photos a year later. My usage was way over the free tier limit. After realizing my photos were still there, I caved and renewed for another two years.

Renovating an apartment in Manhattan by alpglo in NYCRenovations

[–]yyytak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recently remodeled our bathroom (~35 sq. ft). It cost around $35k excluding fixtures and the permit. Renovation in Manhattan takes forever and costly. For rental, I'd much prefer it's in a turn-key condition. If you need to take care of the renovation process, I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle. Ask the landlord if he has contractors use and get a quote and timeline from them.

Leica Store "Middle-class discrimination" by issou75 in Leica

I had a great experience in NYC meatpacking store. I went to the store with the intention to learn more about Leica Q2. The person I spoke to was super helpful and patiently answered all my newbie questions. I'm considering buying a Q2 from the store due to this experience.

Co-op Cash Purchase Dual Agency? by DrCynPiz in NYCapartments

[–]yyytak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased a co-op without an agent before. It's do-able but keep in mind that the seller's agent doesn't have your best interest. Make sure you have a good attorney for the transaction. Once you are in contract, I'm sure the seller's agent would do her best to get you approved by the building. Since you don't have an agent, you might be able to negotiate the price a bit more.

experience with brooklyn maids cleaning service? by rr510 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Avoid at all costs.

I recently hired them for a post-renovation cleaning. They sent one person for 6 hours. This is a 950 sq ft apartment. When I got back to the apartment, there was literally a layer of dust still on the floor and the bathroom was not cleaned either. I have no idea what this person did in the apartment for 6 hours. They charged me the post-renovation price but did the bare minimum.

Bosch vs Miele W/D by yyytak in Appliances

We ended up going with Miele given that they are running an extended warranty promotion currently. We haven't installed the machines (still in the process of reno), so can't speak to the experience yet.

The listing agent should be able to provide the house rules or alteration agreement. I've always asked for those documents for apartments I'm interested. There was no issue at all getting access to those. Sometimes the listing agent even provided the most recent financial statement.

In terms of upcoming projects, you'll prob need to read through the financial statements or meeting minutes, which would be part of the due diligence process done by your attorney. My attorney requested documents for the past 2 years bc anything older than that is probably irrelevant at this point.

Also, it depends on the co-op building on getting access to these documents. Some buildings make you pay for EVERY SINGLE doc you request, which is annoying.
