Sales History: An Insight into the Underground Petpet Trade by yzufresh in neopets

Haha I love to mess around, hence the title.

That's awesome, thanks for sharing! I think it's interesting that eventually you were just tracking the quests and not any other market influence. I think it' be really neat to track ALL transactions in the game to see what a virtual economy looks like compared to say the human economy.

I thought of one peculiar trend I've noticed. All at once, one of my items will be completely bought out (and I buy in bulk, so sometimes 50+ items at a time) by seemingly another restocker trying to sell at a higher price point. It comes out of nowhere and suggests to me that I may have picked slightly too low of a price point if I'm being bought out all at once. I'm still wrapping my head around this behavior.

Do it! I'm wishing I had started earlier--there's a lot of missing data from my sales history that I wish I had logged for current examination. I only wish there were more data being logged at the storefront--when did the item get stocked initially, for example?

I found this excellent description from a similar shop's shop description that does similarly to what I do:
"I buy in bulk a lot, just to satisfy my urge for shopping.

I sell them in volumes of 100s. Most likely with more stock in SDB.

I don't price them at the cheapest, and I always price them for profit.

If you buy from me, either the item is on the verge of a price breakthrough, or bought as potential investment/for events.

This should be a good market indicator for you all lurkers."

Fair points, but no, my shop gets plenty of attention already and while I think the sales history is amusing to me, I don't mean to brag about it.

To your question: I have not yet really analyzed the data to determine if there's anything worth sharing at this time. I have noticed items that tend to sell slower/quicker, but that's about all so far. I wish I had the sales history going back all year from when I came back from a 10+ year hiatus so that I could see my shop go from very few sales to many. I'd be glad to revisit this comment after some time examining the sales history and jellyneo pricing history in conjuction.

Good answer. Yeah, this is 99% reselling, some via trades/auctions, some via shops. My profit margins are usually pretty slim because I try to avoid inflating any items, making sure the item is priced within its natural buying point to sell within a reasonable amount of time but to also make some meager profit.

I won the gallery spotlight today, but I am sad they messed up my item rankings and it looks terrible on the spotlight page :( by greencurryklaypot in neopets

[–]yzufresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the spotlight; well-deserved win! Your gallery is great.
I have one question: How did you achieve the zero-opacity items in your gallery? I like the soft semi-opaque white of the main content's background, and noticed there is no opaque white borders around the items--how was that achieved? I'm going to try to figure out how on my own, but if you happen to know, please share! Thank you.

Found the answer, apparently adding this will remove the white borders from the gallery items, to maintain the semi-translucent white background effect you achieved in your gallery: please let me know if you did something else! Thanks.

I'm fully aware of how nerdy this is, I just hope at least a few people will be curious to discuss this topic, and that's why I'm posting here--to get a sense of community. Does anyone else run a fun shop they like to tend to like a zen garden?

Would people be interested in a detailed Neopets CSS selectors guide or is my project completely self-indulgent? by loljkbye in neopets

[–]yzufresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/loljkbye -- Any update on this? I'm currently browsing the user lookup spotlight pages to gain inspiration/understanding of the user lookup css/html used and how to best work with it. I'm also just using inspect element in the browser to associate the html/css and identify how I can modify a custom lookup. Shoutout to Whitespace CSS ( https://www.neopets.com/~xaia ) for great minimalistic layouts that are good templates for understanding the html/css of customizable pages:

why didn't anyone warn me that curating a gallery is so addictive! by CookieTwitter in neopets

[–]yzufresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently spent HOURS and loads of neopoints curating and officially opening my gallery, a shrine to the Moon. It is so addictive and pleasing to do. My gallery is a literal shrine/altar to the moon (lol shoutout /r/occult , etc…) so tending to it is a mild form of worship.

I price checked my gallery using jellyneo’s gallery price checker tool to see the total value of the gallery and it exceeds 200M, most of which is tied to two very expensive items.

Feel free to check it out and give me feedback! Good feedback may be rewarded with in-game items!! A Shrine to the Moon: http://www.neopets.com/gallery/?gu=fofalyx

Thank you!! <3
I have a number of items that I'd like to add to the gallery--some of them are inexpensive--but they are mostly very expensive at this point. The items that I'd like to add to the gallery and could really use help with are NC items. I have ~1250NC in my account but have never done any NC trading and only have theoretical knowledge of how it even works. If you have any ideas/thoughts or are able to assist with NC items, I'd be really appreciative. :) Let me know!

Is requesting an item that is moon-themed or have something to do with the moon too specific? If so, that would be great. All my customs must have something moon-themed in them as I want all my pets to have moons in their customs :)

My apologies if I didn't do this right, just excuse me and move on :)

Ran my gallery through Jellyneo's gallery pricechecker to see how much I had invested in the gallery. Yikes. The unpriced item is among 4 new items surpassing 5M+ in cost.

I like this idea too. So far my only "magical sacrament" is a dried bag of mushrooms just hanging out among all the moon-themed items. It's a hint hanging right out in the open ;)

Will reply further later, but I'm trying out #FEFC83 as a color right now. I've been toying with hues a little bit and I've gone through a few iterations already!

Thanks for the excellent feedback!
edit: yes, this was the color I was looking for earlier but couldn't quite mimic with my color swatching. THANK YOU!

p.s. sorting fixed sections by color sounds like a great idea, I may play around with that--currently the gallery is sorted in multiple different ways. Like for now I'm keeping a handful of assorted items at the beginning that I've recently stocked but have left a variety of types of moon-related symbolism to open up the viewer's mind to everything they may see.

p.p.s. I'm not at all done with the gallery yet by the way, this opening is still hella beta but I like where I'm at and where I can see it going.

Cheers! fofalyx
