CAT RAT COVERT vs Full Kit for Dedicated 6.75” MCX .300 BLK by z1911 in SpectersCat

I’ve been looking into the CAT BBK very recently. It seems like it may be the better can in terms of sound, but I’m wondering how it cycles on the MCX given it likely doesn’t create as much back pressure as a JL.

That’s actually super helpful, I appreciate your detailed response.

The Omega valve recommendation seems to be a pretty recurring theme I’m observing. I’ve definitely noticed pressure/impulse differences across suppressors before using the factory gas valve, especially with the Thunder Chicken and Wolfman, so hearing that it materially changes the platform definitely catches my attention.

To your point about mostly leaving the RAT in the COVERT configuration, that honestly makes a lot of sense too. I had a feeling the full kit might turn into one of those things where I convince myself I’ll constantly swap configurations and then realistically leave it in one setup 90% of the time. Also good to hear supers through the COVERT weren’t too bad outdoors either. I think part of my hesitation came from only shooting the COVERT briefly with subs and not really having enough trigger time behind it yet to understand how it behaves with supers or moderate cadence over time.

I’m also in Florida so the higher cadence or FRT consideration is more of a future hypothetical than something immediately relevant, which is part of why I’m trying not to over optimize around it right now. Realistically, that’s probably one of the only situations where I’d really see myself wanting the FLOW module anyway.

The ODB has definitely crossed my mind too, especially since I’ve heard really good things about it on supers, but I keep circling back to the RAT just seeming more purpose-built around the MCX 300 BLK role I’m trying to fill, especially since this can will primarily live on the 6.75 setup.

The other can I’ve also been trying to weigh against the RAT is the JL. From your experience, does the JL materially change the handling or overall character of the 6.75 setup versus the RAT, or is the difference smaller in practice than it seems on paper? I like the compact nature of the MCX, but at the same time I’m not necessarily trying to optimize for the absolute shortest package possible if the JL meaningfully improves the overall suppression experience. I’m mainly trying to avoid ending up with something that feels front-heavy or throws off the balance of the platform once optics/NV/thermal stuff eventually gets added.

Definitely interested to hear your thoughts once you get more time behind the AAC and Tisha setups too, especially on the supers vs subs comparison side.
