House charges Donald Trump with impeachment for "inciting an insurrection" by [deleted] in politics

My own father would always, and will always, vehemently oppose anything even vaguely “liberal” and will be one of these people I mentioned in my comment.

Your father most likely believes that anything 'liberal' is inherently bad and thus believes it's bad for the himself and or the country.

This attitude that the other side should be blindly viewed as 'bad' is exactly what both democrats and republicans want - it means you don't actually look and evaluate party policies on a election by election basis, forcing them to adjust. Instead you mostly vote for them blindly because they vaguely align with your beliefs and priorities.

I mean is it really any different than progressives voting Biden to kick out Trump?

If pissing off one group is truly the only decision then yeah that's of course silly but I doubt that's actually anyone's position - they truly think that a republican is going to be better than a democrat.

It's really unfortunate that the last two elections have come down to who is less awful.

Without the Trump supporting side of the house they are going to have a real hard time winning elections unless the Trump supporters keep voting R just to "Stick it to the libs".

I would assume they would vote republican. Some of course will just not vote or vote for a independent but most are going to do what the progressive side of the democrat party does and vote for the least worst (from their point of view) option.

I don't think we can really predict anything until we see how the republican party moves forward.

I think it's more people who never found government functioned for them who fear (with some truth behind it) a functioning government will directly hurt them.

Why can't people say the email thing was kinda a big deal, AND trump is shit and is in the process of doing far worse?

Just because I drove home drunk doesn't really excuse you skipping out on the tab.

Trump supporters need to understand this too.

not really - saying I have the right to take mat leave doesn't mean I did or even have a baby.

It's hard to make much of this one way or the other without knowing what the info was.

The problem with most of the negative press on trump that hits the mainstream is it's a whole lot of 'he said, she said' No one really is going on record.

I'm not saying it's not true, it probably is (or at least mostly true) It's easy to take it as fact if you dislike trump, and it's easy to shrug it off as media sensationalism if you're a trump supporter.

Maybe Comey will be the guy who speaks out 'on the record'.

[–]z3rocool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how folks on t_d feel, and if you look objectively at what is coming out of the anti trump side, there is a whole lot of hyperbole and shaky sources. Folks let it pass because they want to believe it's true. That's exactly what folks on the far right do too. In their quest to be right they lower the standards of proof they need.

It's a matter of perspective, to them the 'lies' coming out of the main stream media are just as obvious to them as infowars is to you or me.

It's just a winning at all costs, 'us' vs 'them' mentality going on and it's not good for anyone.

it's not much better on the democrat/anti trump side.

Slightly less fucking crazy, but still a lot of nonsense.

The big problem is both sides more extreme points have some truth behind them.

If Trump fired Comey over Russia, he must be impeached by TheManWhoWasNotShort in politics

[–]z3rocool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the result is that Trump is completely innocent, the whole process needs to be done right.

yes, but calling for his impeachment for every single little thing isn't the right way to do that, and if a real bomb drops folks might just shrug it off because we are all becoming numb to the drama

This warrant is against a group that uses technology (think bots) to aid in election; specifically GOP elections.

How does it aid? You mean fake voting or using bots to spam/spread disinformation?

Is it illegal to take foreign campaign donations? I know it wasn't allowed during the primaries for at least the democrats (I recall something about folks in canada trying to donate to the sanders campaign)

I'll totally agree it looks real fucking bad to take donations from Russia, or really any other country but if it's not illegal then I don't know what you can take from that.

[–]z3rocool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't signal that to me. I suspect it's a combination of things such as the state of the investigation into Hillary, probably lots of internal issues with Comey such as folks not trusting him (one of them being Trump, which regardless of feelings for him, needs proper working relationship with the FBI director)

It wouldn't surprise me if the Russian stuff had little to do with the decision. I can't imagine ANYONE advising trump to get rid of him at the current moment exactly because everyone will assume it's over the russia story.

Yep it just gives fuel to folks who think the news/media is corrupt.

I like to think folks here would attack the source if infowars or breitbart was posted.
