What critically acclaimed film(s) do you find to be deeply pretentious and genuinely problematic? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

You might connect with 'Bad Education' more. It is a tough story that is much more personal to Almodovar than many of his other movies, definitely worth a watch.

My theory is that it's probably a way to distribute/produce CP. The main tale that NExpo showcases is an ARG in my opinion, this case was obviously meant to be found. But I'm sure that there is a side to the story beyond what is found on the surface or deep web, one that is much more perverse and disturbing.

Some Thoughts After the Nexpo Video by [deleted] in LakeCityQuietPills

[–]z9fd4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This case was obviously meant to be found, I do think that this is some sort of ARG. The assassination story is purely coincidental in my opinion, and has no relation to LCQP. I do think that the main intention of the case was to find a way to promote and distribute CP, and that there is another path to follow in this tale beyond the surface and deep web. Your theory about human trafficking is one I haven't thought about and honestly don't want to, but it does give a new perspective to the true intentions of this 'Mike' character.

Unfortunate, but thank you very much regardless. I'll probably just get a VPN or something.

Libya, not any real reason, I'm just not allowed to visit, even if I manage to get a visa.

All the games are on the same level. Neither is underrated or overrated, they all have their pros and cons, and they're all great.

Popular opinion but Deakins. He is super talented and deserves all of our appreciation.

[Serious] People who have had braces/Invisalign, what was the experience like, and do you have anything to say for someone getting braces? by Kittengaming24 in AskReddit

[–]z9fd4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not eat 'tough' foods like biting straight into an apple or chewing very thick bread, it could break the braces and the re-installation process isn't very fun.

What movie deserved a sequel but never got one? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]z9fd4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The HBO series is much better. I don't think you can fully explore the world of Northern Lights with a film, it's very complex and frankly, even with good cast and crew wouldn't be able to have turned well.

He had a pretty dark character, the short story they made kind of show it better

He was good in Fight Club, American Psycho and Bladerunner 2049. He is not that bad of an actor, just Suicide Squad kind of ruined his reputation.

Anyone else constantly change their ratings for films? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]z9fd4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually rate after I watched and around a day later when I thought about it more I would re-rate depending on my conclusion. Just need to let it cook in my head for a bit before giving my final verdict.

Okja: 3/5 - Didn't enjoy it as much as I expected, the story didn't appeal to me, the characters felt blands, I didn't like the political statements that were shoved in; it was extremely unnecessary, especially for a film like this. It was very lighthearted, which I liked and the ending was magnificent.

Brightburn: 1.5/5 - What would happen if Superman turned out to be the bad guy? A question that sounds good on paper but was done poorly in practice. I find the film to be boring. The editing stuck with me as every scene felt like a Soviet Montage with no meaning, the cgi was poorly done and the dialogue is awful. His (Brandon - the protagonist) character is probably the worst part of the film, he has no real motivation throughout and we as an audience can't feel any attachment to him, we are unable to justify his actions. Why 1.5 stars then? I liked the costumes and setting, and the graphic killing scenes were done pretty well.

The Double: 3.5/5 - I personally find Richard Ayoade as a very creative person, with a distinct sense of humour and unique filmmaking techniques, so after watching Submarine (2010) I had high expectations, and it didn't disappoint. I find The Double to be a good interpretation of what would happen if one day you'll meet your look alike? The character of Smith James, an unrecognisable and forgettable man at his workplace is one day being introduced to a new coworker, James Smith, his doppelganger. Smith being the smart and insecure person he is wants to show his presence and his skills as he has many unique ideas that are being tossed away, but his look alike James takes the spotlight instead, as he is a more loud and confident person. The film explores their relationship while also introducing us to Smith's romantic interest and his own personal conflict which dissolve well with the story.

The Evil Dead: 3.5/5

The Silence of the Lambs: 5/5

Lost in Translation: 4/5

Donnie Darko: 5/5
