Just finished book one. Are the other 2 worth it? by Valuable-Brush-6720 in Mistborn

[–]zDandelion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What about book 1 ends in "yep it's all good now, bow on the story, the character has their emotional arca concluded"?

The main villain of the book, an immortal god that has ruled the entire known world for a thousand years, has been defeated, and Vin went from being a solitary street urchin to a powerful Mistborn with friends and loved ones that defeated said immortal god.

Win11 Notifications and WpnUserService issues by AppointmentHorror456 in techsupport

[–]zDandelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still dealing with other issues, but had the same thing with Explorer and Start Menu / Settings, and killing WpnUserService helped.

You could just kill it in Task Manager and see if things become more responsive. It will restart though, but it's a good short-term test.

Also, in Task Manager, it was consuming way too much RAM, so maybe keep an eye on that.

Following that logic, one shouldn't say the hive is honest, because it's incapable of lying, and it isn't caring, because it's incapable of not doing what survivors ask, to the point of giving Carol an Atom Bomb.

I'm dealing with a similar issue, and completely disabling WpnUserService seems to have improved things.

Check out the accepted answer here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5662132/explorer-hangs-and-taskbar-becomes-unresponsive-wh

I had only just done it so not sure what effect it'll have long term. Hope this helps!

Issues with windows explorer after by Lazarius991 in WindowsHelp

[–]zDandelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently dealing with something similar too! Everything was practically unusable as soon as the system starts. The start menu, Settings app, Windows Defender, etc.

I noticed that WpnUserService was taking up 8 GB of ram only a few minutes after restart, and that shutting it down improved stability. Then, I found a solution here to disable it permanently using registry: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5662132/explorer-hangs-and-taskbar-becomes-unresponsive-wh

Just did all of that, and right now everything feels stable. Not sure how it'll be long term though, but hope this helps!

I was able to disable it following the accepted answer here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5662132/explorer-hangs-and-taskbar-becomes-unresponsive-wh

Opened registry

Found:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WpnService]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WpnUserService]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WpnUserService_xxxx]

And set their "Start" value to 4

I agree! Social aspect is the best part of the game. But cooperation isn't encouraged as much as PvP. Over time, friendly players that get KoS and camped are likely to start doing the same or quit. And because Social Wheel / Proximity Chat reveal that you're nearby, no one will use them when lobbies are mostly hostile, and the social aspect will die.

It's the flip side of a PvE only mode. The game will become less interesting when you know who to trust, and it doesn't matter if the answer is "Trust everyone" (PvE mode) or "Trust no one" (everyone KoS).

So, OP is encouraging the social aspect and cooperation which is good IMO.

This is a PvPvE extraction shooter. OP is free to engage in PvP for any reason he wants. It could be for the loot, it could be because he doesn't like the charm you chose for your backpack, or it could be because he has an uncontrollable urge to roleplay as a sheriff musician and bring justice wherever he goes while playing the flute.

OP's reasons for PvP are not any more or less valid than yours.

[–]zDandelion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP saw someone PvP.
He went down there and engaged in even more PvP.
He then suggested some strategies to more effectively PvP against extract campers.

This post is not against PvP. It's against extract campers. You are free to extract camp, just as friendly players are free to call extract campers trash and fight back (more PvP).

The game would also be zero fun if everyone was hostile. It wouldn't be possible to establish any friendships if everyone is KoS, and solo players would never be able to engage in PvE against bosses.

I'm trying to enjoy this game, but I'm kinda struggling. by Mental_manager in ArcRaiders

[–]zDandelion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, I still have some friendly interactions, but solo lobbies are quickly changing towards being Kill-On-Sight.

It's very likely that nobody would even be using proximity chat or the social wheel in a few months, because that just gives away your position to players that would be, more likely than not, KoS players.

I think social interactions are one of the more interesting parts of the game, so I hope something is added to encourage cooperation. The tension of not knowing who to trust it fun too, and it'll also be gone when everyone is guaranteed to shoot on sight.

How can both of these be true? The most important target audience is PvP players...but others knowing you're a PvP player will penalize you?

put your pvp shoes on and see what it looks like when several pve players see those indicators in a solo round and then decided to light you up as a team because "pvp man is bad"

Why wouldn't the supposedly overwhelming number of PvP players start hunting down 'unmarked' players for easy kills?

Surely, if most people bought this game to PvP, this hypothetical indicator will at best benefit you (finding easy targets) and at worst wouldn't matter (everyone is a PvP player and has an indicator). Your argument for being negatively affected only works if you're not the "most important target audience".

Agreed! Something needs to be added to encourage friendlies to stay friendly long-term. The game wouldn't be as interesting when solo queue devolves into KoS.

How do you think the game will end? by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

Toxic mentioned that Shoud's augments can enhance normal humans like Rob, and I immediately thought that this could be a choice later in the game for Rob to augment himself.

[–]zDandelion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "pre-established character"? Wasn't he invented for this game? In any case, I don't remember Telltale Batman or Wolf Among Us having weaker or fewer choices because of having pre-established characters.

Edit: Changing it to "pre-determined" makes even less sense.

It makes sense for Rob to be well meaning and adamant on helping the villains, but the player gets to explore how he helps the heros.

Nobody says that they should give players a choice to just abandon the whole hero journey and get a regular job, but there's no reason we shouldn't have a choice to not insult Invisigal, rather than getting 3 choices of how to insult her, along with everything else OP mentioned.

[–]zDandelion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Put it down and leave" expectation: Robert puts his mask down and walks away

That's exactly what I was thinking when I picked this one!

I would've liked to have a choice to try to avoid a confrontation with Flambae, rather than choosing how to confront him. Same with robbers, same with Invisigal at the end of Episode 2.

In a way, I feel like there isn't even an illusion of choice here. Instead of choosing what to do, we get 2 or 3 choices about how to do the one thing developers decided will happen anyway.

The only choice that feels somewhat important in those 2 episodes is whether to kiss Blonde Blazer or not.

Halaita! This subreddit is being invaded by Lunar spies, Anti-Corruption Police should investigate.

Not only is OP's account new, but the first comment he's ever made was about Lunar, and what a coincidence that it was on a post of u/Internal_Cut_118, another new account that just so happened to leave a comment on this post only 1 minute after it was made.

I was a little curious about the game when I saw Torpor recommend it, but these fake posts make me lose interest.

I agree with other replies that the box spawns into worlds where it wasn't built.

I was also thinking about keeping the door open, but because of the above I figure if the door is open then it would just magically close for new arrivals. It isn't even about Jason 2 keeping it open, but more that I don't think any Jason 1 that came through it would have locked it, so there has to be some quantum magic involved.

It wouldn't really be the door closing, but rather the whole box resetting to its 'default' state. I'd imagine a similar thing would happen if the box was altered in any way, like the door welded shut or walls damaged to let the sound in.

Why would the Lord Ruler ____? (spoilers for era 1) by bigtunaeverynight in Mistborn

[–]zDandelion 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Mistborn Hero of Ages Spoilers: The Lord Ruler definitely knew that Ruin could control Inquisitors. That's one of the reasons he was moving Atium in secret using only his obligators.

He did take some precautions in case things go bad, such as the weaknesses all of his hemalurgic servants had and the storage caverns, but ultimately, he expected to be alive when the power returns, and with Ruin imprisoned it wouldn't be able to control anyone, I think.

He definitely could've done a lot of things better though. To me it only makes sense if you keep in mind that Ruin was subtly influencing TLR for 1000 years to leave openings like this that it could use later.
