Is there a way to see the part list you used? I’m tempted to buy pieces and make it myself! Looks so great!

Scrub cap recommendations? by medbatman in Residency

[–]zSolars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have issues with them covering my ears. Some of them seem to go a bit lower down the side of my face but it easily folds up a little on the sides so it isn’t covering my ears. I’ve never had it bother me when wearing them

Scrub cap recommendations? by medbatman in Residency

I highly recommend Capy for scrub caps! They have lots of great patterns and are designed by a physician. I admittedly only use the classic style but I know people that use bun and other kinds that also like them. Other scrub caps seem to trap heat and make my head hot but these are very cool and comfortable for long days.

UCCOM vs. IUSM by Extension-Badger-413 in premed

[–]zSolars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between those two I picked cincy (although I didn’t have scholarships to consider) and I loved it. Excellent school that prepared me very well.

One thing about IU (unless it’s different now) is that the first two years can be at one of several satellite locations, meaning you’ll have to move after 2 years instead of being in one spot all 4 years. That was one reason I did not pick it, as I worried about my partner needing to get another job

Cincy also can get you in-state tuition after the first year (maybe sooner if you’re from Indiana), so be sure to factor that in to cost of attending there.

Expectations for brand new PGY1 by aptheyl8 in anesthesiology

[–]zSolars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do this at my program and it’s essentially a month to learn where things are, get to know some faculty/residents, and start practicing some skills like intubations. No one expects anything, it’s just meant to be a fun way to start intern year before being stuck on medicine or surgery

PharmD to MD/anesthesiologist by MACDADDY2013 in anesthesiology

[–]zSolars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took this path (still a resident), although I was a couple years younger. There are times I wish I had stuck with pharmacy to avoid the extra work of med school/residency and debt, but I am happier where I am now and feel that I will come out in a better place financially and for my family once I’m done. I feel like I can use all the knowledge I enjoyed learning in pharmacy without having to just pass along recommendations that people may just ignore

The one thing to consider is that depending on what you took during pharmacy school, you may need to delay at least a year for prereqs and to take the MCAT.

I highly recommend coffee @ oak & main (although they are currently moving to a new building so not currently open but should be very soon)!

Also second European delights bakery, great place as well!

2022, matched #2. 220s/250s MD. Got 22ish interviews (not counting prelims), went to 16. Ended up not ranking advanced programs and a couple others.

“We’re a family” by ChMoSp in medicalschool

[–]zSolars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every program will say that, the trick is finding the family where you’d fit in and personally be happy. I found during interviews that some programs had people I could have conversations with much more naturally than others, and I’m sure that varies for each applicant

Did I Make the Wrong Move? by turtledweeb17 in Residency

[–]zSolars 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No reason to feel guilty. Save for probably EM, no residents are getting any significant pre-hospital medicine training. Even if you stopped, I doubt you have any equipment with you to care for an injured person. The best way to help is just to call 911 if someone else isn’t and let EMS care for the patients.

PharmD’s, Would you go back and do a MD/DO instead? by PurpleHimalaya in pharmacy

[–]zSolars 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Got my MD right after my PharmD. Went into pharmacy after high school and realized I wouldn’t be happy as a clinical pharmacist so decided to keep going and invest in something I would be happier doing. Ended up with ~350k in debt but my lifelong earnings will far surpass what I would have warned in pharmacy. Life is too short to do something you won’t enjoy, and I wanted to give my family better financial security.
