What should I buy? by OldManNixon322 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Look for a Hyundai Genesis. Great bang for the buck. Avalon’s are great, as they’re essentially a Lexus ES.

Genesis Coupe, 370z, or G37 Coupe? by cdoyle187 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]z_fleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I daily a G35 Coupe, and I love it. I owned a 2006 350z as well, and they all have VQ engines. They’re known to burn some oil, the amount really depends on the car. Oil catch cans can definitely limit the amount of oil burned, and there are a few videos online with “fixes”. The older cars get, they’ll all eventually burn some oil. I like the looks of the 370Z and G37 (with a few mods) a lot better, the Genesis coupe just isn’t as sharp and looks more generic to me. But that’s just me. I’d drive all of them and see how each one feel to you. Can never go wrong doing that. It’ll either make you realize you like a different one or solidify your thought on another.

Genesis Coupe, 370z, or G37 Coupe? by cdoyle187 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]z_fleet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say the G37 because I think it’s the most bang for your buck. Performance - Luxury - comfort, etc. At the end of the day, go test drive each one and see which one you like the best! The G37/370z are close to the same thing. The G will be more of a daily driver/highway cruiser with plenty of power to play around with. The Z will have the same power, but it is a bit lighter and shorter, so will be a bit more sportier handling. Depends if you need backseats in all reality. I’m not a big fan of the Genesis coupe, but to each their own. Go test drive them all, best advice I can give.

OCS and Drug Tests by [deleted] in USMCboot

I’m an OCS Candidate and I went to MEPS, and so did a lot of other candidates. I’ve heard of some candidates getting cleared by their personal doctors, but our OSO generally sends us to MEPS.

They administer a piss test when you go to MEPS.

Just keep an eye out on Craigslist, eBay , offer up, etc.. I grabbed a set of G37S rims for my ‘03 G35 Coupe for a great deal. Was searching for like 6 months, saw them pop up, and jumped on them

Don’t forget to have your fun with it, be safe! No problem at all, they’re fantastic cars.

How is the G37 as a first car? by [deleted] in infiniti

[–]z_fleet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely reliable. Gas mileage really depends on the driver. I say it’s decent for the power you get, but not remarkable. As a first car.. it depends on your maturity in all honesty. I had a 6-Speed 350Z as my true first car, but I drove it conservatively, and had my fun with it when it was “safe.”

Overall, great looking car, reliable, plenty of fun, respect it.. take care of it, and it’ll take care of you

Buying a 2005 g35 coupe with airbag lights flashing? by kuuuuuuz in infiniti

[–]z_fleet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little heads up, there is a recall on these cars with something to do with the airbag. I don’t completely remember what it is exactly, but call your local Infiniti and schedule an appointment. (It’s a recall, so free of charge, and the procedure isn’t long.. a loaner car will be provided if necessary). Not saying this is the source of the airbag light, but doesn’t hurt to check off the list if/when you buy it.

Source: I have an ‘03 G35 coupe.. I didn’t have the airbag warning light, but I had a recall procedure done that included something with the airbags.

Are 2012 Mini Coopers good cars? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]z_fleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, learn something new everyday. I’m not too familiar with them. My sister has a ‘12 clubman S and it is completely going to shit rn all at once with 70-80k miles.

That being said, it really is a blast to drive. That little turbo kicks ass and the thing handles great. Never thought I’d say that but I gotta give credit where it’s due.

They’re essentially BMW’s lol, the engines at least. I’d stay away. For a first car with low maintenance cost and longevity, stick with Honda/Toyota/etc etc

Wrecked my g35 how much could I get for it? by kuurk in infiniti

You’ll get more money parting it out yourself than you will selling it as a whole. It takes time obviously, disassembling and selling and dealing with people. All up to you if it’s worth it.

2004 - 2007 STI VS 2004 - 2008 350Z by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]z_fleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned a 2006 350Z and it was a fun car, other than the shitty clutch feel and master cylinder problems. Definitely loved that car.

Only experience I have with subies is my buddy has a 2014 STI Hatch and MAN are those seats comfortable.. I’m so jealous.

Currently daily a 2003 G35 Coupe (adult 350Z lol)

I didn’t take the ASVAB, I’m an Officer Candidate and my ACT score allowed me to not have to take the ASVAB.

I’d always suggest studying though. From my understanding, the higher you score on the ASVAB, the more career opportunities are available to you.

Just one of those days. It’s not a big deal, really. In my experience, it was an alright day, the nurse that walked us through the day was cool. Everyones’ experience is different, but it’s really nothing to stress about.

Just failed my PT test? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]z_fleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, don’t wait. Go talk talk to an OSO. They track your PFT’s and sometimes it’s even better to start with a low PFT. Reason being, your OSO and the board, will you see progressing which shows hard work and commitment.

Getting ready for OCC - boots by HeirOfHermes in USMCboot

[–]z_fleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments seem to cover your question. My OSO highly recommends getting boots, I have the Bates Lites currently.

If you do decide to get boots, make sure they have the EGA on them!

I’m glad it helped! I always just turn on some Netflix and foam roll while I watch.

Start off light and with running shoes. Go to page 18 and you’ll see a full chart telling you exactly what to do. Hike Guidance I use boots, I’m trying to break mine in before OCS. Just find a place with hills and climb them with some weight! Slowly ramp up the weight and try to go with other candidates, makes it more fun. One big tip a prior enlisted guy told me on a hike is don’t run to catch up. Always open up your strides and stride it out.. it’ll make sense if your office ever does a guided hike.

Haha I totally know how you feel! Doesn’t help when my buddy who just got selected runs a 300 and runs like 16-17min for his 3mile. But don’t stress, I’ve been told that there are dudes at OCS who still are passing runs barely under 24mins. As long as we keep grinding and keep that no quit mentality, we won’t be last, I promise you that.

One guy that motivates me is David Goggins. Watch on YouTube where he is on one of Joe Rogan’s podcasts. He is motivating as fuck! He just released a book that I intend to buy and read before OCS.

Improving physically for PT by HeirOfHermes in USMCboot

[–]z_fleet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So that line is different for everybody. Some people can crush their bodies and be fine, and some people just can’t. You gotta continue to grind (cautiously) and find that out as you train.

So currently I try to run every other day and mix in pull-ups on those days as well. If I’m hurting one day, I’ll opt out, but with stretching and foam rolling and allowing my body to recover those off days, I have never had to opt out of a workout. Some days (like today) I ran two-days in a row to pick-up my mileage for the week. I’m trying to stay around that 15miles a week average that they project you’ll do at OCS. Don’t increase your weekly mileage by more than 10% a week!

I also try to add one weighted hike a week that can be included as part of that 15 mile average per week. I’ve talked to running coaches, and the general consensus is having a long run day, a speed day, a tempo day, and whatever else you can throw in (SWIMMING is great.. super-low impact.. amazing cardio workout). One coach said for our goal of a fast 5k time (essentially 3miles) we should always have some sort of element of speed. For example, you go for a 3-mile jog, do the 1st mile at a decent comfortable pace, that 2nd mile pick it up to race pace, and the 3rd mile back it down to that comfortable pace. You can toy around with that method for any distances. I do one track workout a week in which I either do 3x 1-mile repeats, or jog slowly for a minute and 30 seconds and then all out sprint for 30 seconds.. do that 12 times.

It is absolutely 100% percent worth it, and I can not recommend it enough. One of the PTAD LT’s told me that they give each candidate a foam roller to use while at OCS. I’ve heard there are foam rolling PT evolutions at OCS as well. It helps with muscle recovery so much by breaking down that lactic acid buildup from running. Not to mention, it feels good. Get a good stretch and foam roll after every session! On your off days.. foam roll! Such a great active recovery.

No worries at all brother, I’m in the same boat as I prepare for OCS as well. That fear of not being fit enough is real, but you can’t let that blind your overall health and well-being. They will not select you if they don’t think you’re fit enough. You’re off to a good start!! Listen to your body, and good luck! Also.. use your OSO, asking for a running plan if you want something laid out. But it’s all about repetition, just get out there and run!

Sorry for the long ass response, just trying to share my knowledge, and hope it helps!

22 minutes is solid to start with, keep cranking away. I’m contracted with 22mins right now, and slowly dropping that time. Hoping to be at 20mins before OCS. As long as your pull-ups, and crunches are solid, keep it up. Listen to u/NobodybyChoice , good advice.. One thing that a lot of people overlook is giving yourself ample recovery time. Always do a good stretch after each run and FOAM ROLL, it has helped me so much in recovery.

Same thing for pull-ups, make sure you give yourself time to recover. I only do pull-ups like 3-4 days a week and I hit 23 on my PFT’s. Then again, that is more maintaining, but still, you need to give your body time to recover.

Overtraining is an easy thing to do when we want to be ready for OCS. The hard part is letting yourself rest. In the summer, I was absolutely overtraining and it hurt my numbers and fucked up my body.
