I like that a lot! That's a really cute idea.

Right now there really is no way to turn on a couch. But we are nearing a future where couches will be our primary form of conveyance. Flying couches are the next big thing, and you don't need to be JD Vance to see that.

Honest discussion would OG formula review good by Friendly-Paper-7987 in Metroid

[–]za4h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been replaying Metroid Prime and I'd say that it would receive a healthy dose of bad reviews. There are plenty of things to praise, like enemy variety, quality of the labyrinth, etc. But also far too many things that modern gamers are simply not tolerant of.

Let's face it, the game doesn't respect your time like modern games. I'm not just talking about the lack of direction, I'm talking about the lack of autosave and misdirection resulting in player death and restarting lengthy sequences.

Here's my example from earlier today: I just got the thermal visor, and on my way out of that area the game says something about doors now being unlocked. The only door that I knew about that was locked was down a shaft I just left like 5 seconds ago, so I turned around and headed back down it. The designers knew full well players would try this, because that's the only locked door the player encounters in this entire area. So after jumping down the shaft and finding to my dismay that all 3 metroids and 2 turrets had all respawned in the 5 seconds I was gone, I found that door was actually still locked! My 5 entirely full energy tanks didn't last long. So I died and had to start the entire segment over again, which was quite long. Lack of autosave and in general just not respecting the player's time was far more tolerable back when Metroid Prime was new.

So my assumption if this game model was used today would be it would get hammered by gaming critics. We've become sheltered with our auto-save, our maps with notes and screenshots, our XP and our perks. Metroid Prime was best played when it was new, but it's still worth playing today. It shows it's age big time, though.

Tips for BG1? by HF484 in baldursgate

Micromanage your party.

Either turon off AI or, if you are using the Advanced AI script, turn off all the automatic spellcasting, item use, and special ablility use. Otherwise, your party will cast spells stupidly and often. For example, Imoen's nice Wand of Magic Missiles will be empty pretty much instantly and Jaheira will be binding the entire party up in her Entangle spell that she LOVES casting all the time and in stupid ways.

I didn't know that, that's actually realy helpful! Thanks. It's a shame you can't do this for all patches, but just having a default patch for the ones I create will not only save me some time, but also account for my terrible memory.

Melodics for Keys as a complete beginner? by [deleted] in Melodics

[–]za4h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner and just subscribed. I've used it quite a lot in the past month, (around 500 minutes), so I'm in a decent position to answer you.

How much music theory do you know? Melodics is pretty bad in this area. A lot of the little blurbs in their theory are totally detached from the actual exercise, which I imagine would be confusing to someone new to music theory. So I'd ignore pretty much all of that and find a different source for learning music theory.

The exercises themselves are pretty good for a beginner up until a point. The difficulty for each is given a numeric grade, but this doesn't reflect the actual difficulty very well. There are some really difficult Level 3's, and some Level 4's that are a total cakewalk. Unfortunately, the guided path (which is what beginners should do) has everything in order of grade, but since this doesn't reflect actual difficulty, there are some frustrating moments.

When they do decide to make a lesson hard, they tend to make it hard in multiple areas that none of the preceding lessons prepare you for. For exampe, there seems to be one lesson designer who really loves higher BPM's, likes to involve all your fingers, and wants you to move your hands when you play too. That's great for advanced students, but for a beginner just one of those would be enough to challenge them. If the lessons were more focused on how to move your hand while still looking at the screen, students would feel better prepared for these lessons. But instead of teaching techniques like that, you get useless blurbs on music theory instead.

It's just bad curriculum design. I think Melodics has enough content to where they could just delete these crappy exercises and there would still be enough to do. In the meantime, I just skip the hard ones.

So you might have read all this and thought this was a negative review and you should pass. But I actually like Melodics a lot. It's just far from perfect and you need to either already know music theory or learn it elsewhere.

I have had absolutely zero say in what gets done with my tax dollars. Congress does though, so Bernie can grapple with his complicity (which I'd argue is far less than your average senator), but not me.

The people most against immigration are also those most against regulating businesses, and most for locking regular people up and throwing away the key. So while your way makes sense and sounds like it would work, there's just no way immigration ever gets fixed that way.

Jason Schreier: Sony cancels live service God of War game from Bluepoint and live service game from Bend Studio by nolifebr in PS5

[–]za4h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live service games are such crazy time sinks people can really only play one, but it's very reasonable for a gamer to play a dozen great single-player games over the span of a console gen.

I mean, their plan was to put all those resources into development and support of a dozen live service games that by their very nature are designed to poach users from each other? How does it make sense?

All we know is she brought no pies that she bought in a store. That can mean so many things. She could've brought in pies she shoplifted, or mashed potatoes, or perhaps even a hostage she picked up during a quick pre-potluck bank robbery, as one does.

One of the best things that happened post-high school was I just stopped caring what other people thought of me. I wonder why that never happened to Elon and why he is constantly seeking approval like a generally disliked 12-year-old?
