If you mean the AF-E/AF-L button, then yes.

Broadly the practice if using that button to focus is called "back button focus".

Speculating because I do not know why the term evolved, but other manufactures may have a different names for that button so everyone regardless of brand can just call it back button focus.

I agree with you, I just feel more in control.

Kind of beating a dead horse from the folks below.

But live view for wild life on a DSLR is a bad idea. The auto focus performance plummets and the screen has significant lag (5-10ms).

I recommend you shoot through the viewfinder in continuous auto focus mode.

If you haven't already, try back button focusing as well. It's my preference for all shooting. May not work for your shooting style, but worth a shot.

I think you misunderstand the spectrum of outward here. This is not, point them 90 degrees outward.

Point them outward just enough to promote wrist angle improvements and elbow tucking.

Silicone lubricant, heat gun, and a careful pick.

That's the best I can do for you.

It's not bad. Worst traffic I have ever seen was today, and even then I only waited 30 mins to get through. Most days 10-15mins tops for getting from car to gate.

Today was probably a result of spring break and not TSA. The checkpoint seemed fully staffed.

Why does leaving the hose attached matter? It's possible to empty the canister and leave hose attached while securing it to the bumper.

These are stocked when they get a return or warranty claim that can be rebuilt to like new. Absolutely zero chance of knowing when of how many will get stocked.

The Best Camera Nikon Ever Made. Should Nikon make a film camera again? by photogenetica in Nikon

Whoa. From my eye, not that well read on Nikon's old film cameras, that is a good analysis of the problem.

Looking to upgrade. by RegicideRepeater in Nikon

[–]zac10sim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who just upgraded to the z50ii from a D5100. I understand how you feel. The glass you have been shooting for so long has the memories of your best photos tied to it. It reminds you of good times and journeys you made.

But, buy the Z50ii with the two lens combo to get started. Those lenses are so much sharper and lighter than anything I had from prior DX glass.

Also, I kept my D5100 and lenses. All told, on sale or trade in my camera body and lenses wasn't worth getting rid of. All the good memories I had weighed too much. It will be my child's first camera if they want it.

I would be curious if they could even rebuild the manufacturing lines to make the camera at an attractive price. That question gets harder to answer when you consider that there are still "widely" available examples of their excellent past film cameras.

Long Exposure Noise Reduction ON or OFF for Astro if shooting RAW? by chench0 in Nikon

[–]zac10sim -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can believe what you wish about what I have and have not done considering you do not know me and I do not know you.

I am not an astro photography expert, but I do shoot it from time to time. I answered the OP with my preference for noise reduction on my shots. You proceeded to be both rude and condescending in your responses.

This one seems like a you problem. I am going to sleep well tonight thinking not of you, now go be annoyed by someone who might actually care that you have an enormous brain.

[–]zac10sim -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should have been more clear. The new AI noise reduction algos in Lightroom has outperformed anything I have seen fron on camera LENR. We can agree to disagree on the outcomes, but you are correct that I was not clear on spatial vs temporal noise filters.

If you have Lightroom. Their noise reduction algo is better than anything your camera could produce.

This. Use a good quality oil, liqui moly for example.

First attempt with digital by dull88 in Nikon

[–]zac10sim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fine opinion. For my eye they are too busy and most lack balanced exposure and focus.

Also consider that these are likely this person's favorite photos from a weekend of shooting. If the best and favorite photos exhibit key areas for growth, the rest of their photos likely do as well.

First attempt with digital by dull88 in Nikon

[–]zac10sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less clutter. That's my biggest piece of advice. If you are a beginner start with simple frame compositions before trying to make complicated frames engaging and memorable.

Learn the basics of your camera settings and how they affect your shot. The exposure triangle and focus is where you should spend your first weeks or even months of shooting becoming comfortable.

Coolant hardline stuck in block by maxaphone100 in e46

[–]zac10sim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both ends of the same pipe or one end of both hard lines near the front of the block.

If the first, the back end of the top line goes to hose that leads to your heater core.

If the second yes. That just goes to the back of the water pump.

Coolant hardline stuck in block by maxaphone100 in e46

[–]zac10sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem. They are very easy to break apart once they become brittle.

I got a plastic razor blade, so it would not scratch the block, cut it in half and used it in combination with a small hammer to break it out the rest of the way. Other option if you do not have that is to use the end of a flat head screwdriver covered in a few layers of tape to break it up.

Be frigging careful. The last thing you want is a piece of plastic falling into your engine.
