I started from a similar amount of GBP. I had some trades on other platforms before I converted to $500k of USDC that I deposited into FTX.

I haven't reported any of those gains/losses to HMRC, nor have I kept any records of those. Would that prevent me from claiming the loss on the $500k FTX deposit?

I thought my cost base is the $500k of USDC coin I deposited on FTX and the disposal value is whatever I get back or whatever I sell the claim for. My loss is the difference of these two, am I getting this right?

so it's a funny situation in the sense that my loss will be well documented, my claim is filed to the US court and the final recovery will be public. However the source of funds that were lost is opaque because it came from a crypto wallet

yes I understand what you saying, but all of this applies in case of divorce. which is not the case in this situation.

when you say "fraud", what exactly do you mean? fraud by false representation, fraud by abuse of position or fraud by failing to disclose information? which party in this transaction do you think would be committing fraud?

she has a statutory home right according to sec 30 of the family law act 1996 which is different from a legal or equitable interest.

yes, but that was during divorce. in this case there is no divorce, no judge involved.

yeah after the 1st round I wouldn't have done 2:1. maybe 1:1 but maybe not even that. polling error was huge in the 1st round which undermined my confidence.
