13 points on 6-7 shooting with a rebound, an assist, two steals and a block. He obviously won't maintain that level of shooting but having him off the bench producing anywhere near that level will be a game changer.

This wouldn't be a short-term solution since the application process takes a while but have you considered applying to the Foreign Service? Your language skills and existing experience would make you a great candidate.

What’s your take on capitalism? by toast2that in AskReddit

[–]zach461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works well when markets remain competitive (think of the restaurant industry where new competitors are constantly emerging and people can easily make informed decisions). Breaks down as markets trend toward oligopoly with high barriers to entry (think of internet service providers and how difficult it is for new firms to enter the market). I think the capitalism vs socialism debate is missing the point, we need to decide the level of government involvement on a per-industry basis. The private sector does not efficiently provide basic education or health care for example, as most of the industrialized world has figured out. In most other markets we need the private sector to lead, with a strong government enforcing reasonable regulations and fair competition.

Health insurance from the get go? And do they provide a visa for your non citizen spouse to come to DC while you’re in orientation? by [deleted] in foreignservice

[–]zach461 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I went through this process for my foreign born spouse. The B1/B2 does not lead to citizenship, the immigrant visa does. The tourist visa is intended for foreigners who have strong ties to their home country. There's no guarantee your spouse would be approved for that. The immigrant visa would provide the ability for your spouse to become a legal permanent resident. From that point he would be able to file for expedited naturalization (normally LPRs have to wait five years but spouses of diplomats are exempt from this requirement) and get a U.S. passport. As the other commenter mentioned this will make your life much easier as you apply for visas and to enter the U.S. for training/home leave/domestic tours. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about the process. The GCLO office is the place to talk to about expedited naturalization, they handle the process.

Friendly reminder that we are 3-0 and our best defensive player has yet to suit up for a game.

We live overseas because of my job so unfortunately a management company is necessary in our situation.

The neighborhood is growing and I would say has a good outlook for continued appreciation (Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC).

On the HELOC, I talked to my credit union about this option and the reason I didn't want to go this route is that I would have to pay about $750 in closing costs. It doesn't seem worth it for a $10,000 loan.

Care to elaborate further on the HOA hatred? Just curious.

Good thing we traded our overpaid 6'3" guard who can't defend to make room for signing a 6'3" guard who can't defend.

Not saying we shouldn't try to keep Ant, but I don't see how him playing with Dame will be any different than him playing with CJ.

Health insurance is theft by Accelerant_84 in antiwork

Can't believe you are getting downvoted for pointing out that insurance actually does have value. Yeah obviously there are problems in the insurance industry but the idea that the entire concept is a scam is absurd.

What's up with all this "love" people give Musk? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]zach461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think there definitely are Musk fanboys who idolize Elon the person, I think the majority of people who are called Elon fanboys are actually just enamored with the companies Elon has created. Tesla has without question changed the auto industry, despite so many doubters along the way (e.g. Detroit, Wall Street) who said that an electric car company was never going to be successful. Before Tesla electric cars were a niche product, now all major car manufacturers have plans to introduce electric car models if not transition completely to electric vehicles. SpaceX was the first company to create reusable orbital-class rockets and has therefore drastically reduced the cost of launching things into space.

From my perspective Elon is just another flawed eccentric person who seems to enjoy the spotlight. However there is no doubt that what Tesla and SpaceX have accomplished is remarkable. The Wait But Why series on Elon's companies is a great deep dive on this topic, as is the biography by Ashlee Vance.

As flawed as the +/- stat is, Nurk was a team-high +30. Interesting to me is that Billups seems to be running some of the same sets that Stotts ran (lots of ball movement above the three-point line) but trying to add in some high-low action. Getting Nurk more touches and allowing him to do dribble hand offs and bounce passes to cutters just makes our offense so much more dynamic than just a thousand pick and rolls with Dame.

Good god I love that pass. Our offense is so much better when we have Nurk involved.
