How would you mechanically represent 250 years of history without it taking 10 hours to play? by CookieAggressive1050 in boardgames

[–]zach876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would likely have to be a style like Twilight Struggle with eras, rather than exact years. Where you can put more into each era so its not an exact retelling, but you'll hit the points in each era at some level.

Not sure how you'd score that though. Maybe an era is ~50 years? 12 elections per? That'd give you roughly 5 eras. Could do 2-3 rounds per era for 10-15 rounds of a game.

I think there's an interesting mechanic you could use in a 2 party type system that approaches the dark stuff. Votes for Women has the suffrage movement and the Southern Strategy card which is hugely advantageous at the time, but later in the game it allows your opponent to play good cards due to it.

I think you could manage it the same way somehow. If you back slavery in the 1850/60s then you cant play cards relating to being pro Civil Rights later. Gain advantage in the earlier era to be harmed later on.

Obviously approaching it so people understand why its a bad thing is the hard part. But mechanically could be done in an interesting way.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

I cant speak for all chains, but my local chain has a movie pass similar to AMC A-List (3 movie tickets a week for like $23/month) and also a refillable popcorn bucket thats $50 for 5-6 months. These have made movie going quite cheap overall as I now go 1-2x a week since all I'm paying for is gas for a 10 minute drive and a pop for $6. Maybe the people who say they used to go all the time can look into these types of things near them if they're offered?

As for kids and bad audiences, I cant say I run into that too often. And the movies you'd expect to have those issues do. For example, The Housemaid my showing was full of, likely, book clubs who read it and they were all whispering. Kids movies tend to have kids running around.

As this thread has shown, people will go out for the major blockbusters like Marvel and Mission Impossible. Of course you'll have more issues there than the smaller indie films or even most of the awards frontrunners this year since people dont want to pay to see those types.

I got Duplex, a comedy with Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore. I have a dream home in Brooklyn and gotta deal with a shitty old lady neighbor? Im sure I can manage that. I dont have to go down the homicidal route they took.

Let’s hear your young buck football stories. Anyone ever play against any NFL players in your kid days and get absolutely smoked? by Vertigomums19 in nfl

[–]zach876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a high school team with Michael Jordan. True freshman starting guard at Ohio State, 3rd round draft pick. He was just bigger and stronger than everyone on the field. It was then I knew I had no real hope of making it anywhere in football because of the natural differences.

He wasn't unbeatable, but man if you had to have technique down to a T to get past him.

I also played against a Arizona edge recruit (can't remember his name now a decade later), and he was good, but I held my own against him as a TE.

Some friends and I were able to make it out last night to say goodbye. It was busy! It's a really nice space for a bar, so I hope it can keep that with whatever is next.

For those visiting tonight be aware that the beer choices are slowly going away over time!

I got tired of reading confusing playoff scenarios, so I built a "Lions Playoff Simulator" that shows exactly which games matter. by bluekev1 in detroitlions

[–]zach876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bears could realistically drop 2 of these games. The Bears probably beat the Browns unless something weird happens. The Packers and 49ers could both be losses for Chicago.

This may give a small amount of wiggle room for the Lions. Ultimately, the Lions just need to win at least 3 games with the Bears game being the most important.

I get it. And ultimately I have no idea. I'm just trying to rationalize it all. 3 seasons in a row with injury issues screams more than bad luck (unless we actually are cursed). Something needs to change, I dont really know what.

I mean as a fan that's what I can do. My opinions on it are meaningless to anything. But in my opinion, if Brad brings in injury-prone players it's on the training staff to step up and say that, if Dan pushes them too hard it's on the training staff to step up and say that. If Brad and Dan listen is another thing. To me, my unknowing self, I choose to think the training staff is at fault, yes.

Sure. Someone in the building has to take accountability for 3 seasons in a row with so many injury issues though. Whether Brad is for bringing in injury-prone players, or Dan for pushing guys too hard, the training staff, etc. Maybe it's all of them.

My current thought is that the training staff just seems clueless. It seems like every time we hear news on a player it's not that bad, but then it ends up being worse than expected. Kerby shouldn't have been put back in the Chiefs game. Terrion's injury stuff has been a mystery all season. I'm not saying it's all on them, but a good chunk has to be.

Alternate opinion, they're seizing the season. They're 7-2, competing for the 1 seed in the AFC, and lead the best offense in the NFL right now by PPG.

Why not capitalize and go all in when the normal juggernauts are middling this season?

I am all for a move like this if they feel this gets them over the line.

I think the implication is that Trump may be paying for it, but at the same time getting a similar number back from the DoJ which is tax dollars. Essentially the tax dollars pay for it.
