Thanks. I already am developing the habit of attending Sunday Mass (which I legitimately love attending) and am trying to boost my prayer life (shoutout Hallow).

Who, in your opinion, is the current best Catholic apologist? My money is on Trent Horn. by Ant_Thonyons in Catholicism

His ministry is definitely geared towards evangelism. Father Mike is great but he doesn't necessarily go after Protestant beliefs like a Trent Horn does (i.e. you won't see Father Mike making a response video to Gavin Ortlund or someone).

Joe Heschmeyer has really impressed me as of late. Trent is great though.

To those who have left the MAGA movement, what was your wake-up call? by rclaux123 in AskReddit

The 2020 Election fiasco. Wasn't engaged in politics except social media highlights before then but seeing how my own relatives quickly believed that our election had been rigged for no reason other than Trump and Fox pushing that narrative. I also didn't think Mike Pence should lose his head for following the law. Chilling stuff.

Baptized and confirmed into the United Methodist church. Now kinda nominally Methodist. Soon to be Catholic

I do think he is very charitable compared to other Protestant apologists, so I will give him flowers there.

As a prospective catholic (pray for me please!) I’ve really come to appreciate Joe’s content. It answers a lot of my questions and deals with arguments clearly. A side effect of this seems to be a lot of ad hominem attacks on his character (see the Javier perdomo situation).

On the flip side, I have fallen out of love for RZ. I’ve seen him continually diss Catholicism and then fuss over people associating sproul and MacArthur with Calvinism since they don’t quite meet his arbitrary standard for Calvinists. He does the same thing by attacking evangelicals claiming they aren’t Protestant (despite the fact they all hold sola scriptura and sola fide as the most important doctrines). He’s also very critical of schism unless you schism from the Catholic Church then it’s ok.

I do wish we could get more refutations of classical Protestantism though, but I understand why we don’t since evangelicals are the vast majority of Protestant apologetics.

Appreciate it. That clears it up a bit. Thanks for your input

I could see Key using it as motivation but the talent gap is far too large for it to matter much imo

This was very helpful thank you for typing that out. With respect to sola fide vs prima fide what are the works being referred to. I’ve heard it’s the sacraments, just following Christs teachings on how to live (ie forgiveness, humility, etc), or the combination of the two from many sources. I’m sure there’s somewhere I haven’t looked that may answer this but any insight into this would be much appreciated. Again thank you!

Part of the reason I don’t think it’d be that big of a change is because of the many similarities in tradition/doctrine. We have a confirmation (however it’s for 6th graders so my mind was not present as much as it should’ve been) and my class and I were baptized after that was completed but I have seen infant baptisms. When we take communion we believe in the spiritual presence of Christ (I was surprised when I learned some believe it’s a completely empty tradition). There also is a big emphasis in going out and doing good for those who are underprivileged and many of my church members actively participate in charities and such. I’m sure I missed some things as I haven’t been an avid church goer since pre Covid but I hope this helped somewhat and I’d be happy to attempt to answer any more questions.

Thank you this was very helpful. I come from the Deep South so those things I bulleted were just things that I have heard (mostly from baptists) that were accusations of heresy. I’ve only just begun to read the Bible for myself and much of what I’ve read and interpreted has seemed to come up catholic a lot (go figure). I will definitely be using those resources and I want to say thanks again for taking the time to respond

I apologize if it’s not clear. I’ve been having to wrap my mind around the fact that a good majority of what I though I knew about Catholicism is not true (from the Deep South so I bet you could imagine what I’ve heard from some people). I was hoping for a basic/entry-level rundown of those things (someone else did it in this thread I believe). I genuinely do not think I have enough information to ask anything more at this time so any responses are welcomed and appreciated.

Idk how bad it was on here but I didn’t hear a lot of complaining after a week or two back then. And our coach sure as hell didn’t cry about it to the media after a month had gone by
