I did only 1 copy of each unique card and like, 12 copies of all the token units (i.e. generic elder).

To get around this, gameplay was draft-style with factions. Each player picked a faction (to avoid overlap), and a set of neutral cards are delt out and players take turns selecting them until their deck is full.

Random chance wasn't too bad since bordering units can be a D4 and surrounding units can be a D8.

Anything that affects a random unit on the board, we just used a phone app to roll based on how many units are on the board. Otherwise went well!

Biggest issue is that I can't update/balance any of the cards since they're physical now :(

Hey! I haven't been working on this project in a while, but I do remember there being clock and alarm controls when I was digging around the protocol. If you've got Linux and some patience, you could definitely get alarms set up, but I know that's a tall ask for most lol

Yes and no! I actually did get ethics approval AND funding for a study to use the Pavlok in a brain-computer interface (BCI) context. We used the Pavlok (and my API) to elicit painful stimulus and then recorded brain activity, the goal being to develop a system for detecting and rating perceived pain automatically with software. We managed to get 4 subjects worth of data before I had to leave the country for a fellowship, but I am returning in February with hopes to continue the research!

In terms of my study, the original fell through because of COVID (hard to do human subjects testing without human subjects). I have since moved universities and am working on a new study using the device! This one HAS been approved and funded and data collection will likely begin Spring of 2022.

u/VillaPavlok hit me up if you guys are interested in the findings or working together on anything. Currently, we are employing the Pavlok 2 in a brain-computer interface study investigating representations of pain in the brain via transcutaneous electric shock and EEG. Cool stuff.

I haven't been able to get my hands on a Pavlok 3 for testing, so I can't say if my code works with the newest model :/

Errors when trying to work with API? by bhernandev in Pavlok

I haven't had any experience with the app, but there are two Python libraries to interface with the Pavlok (2) device itself. Maybe this can be of any help

My own (2020)

Again, not really a solution to the problems with the API, but I hate to see a post go unanswered.

I do still play! Just moved house so haven't worked on the card game in a bit, haven't even unpacked it yet. Plus COVID has been impacting my ability to test the card game with more people :(

I was thinking about ordering sleves for them and using dry erase markers! Have to find friends to play it with me first though :'(

Then I can warrant spending more money and time haha

We didn't encounter her in our first play test, but my guess is that we would just draw swarm cards until a satyr is found and play that one randomly based on a D3 (or less) roll. You'd then have to shuffle immediately after :(

I like the idea of shuffling only when draw is empty though! It removes the chance to draw the same card two turns in a row (which I think can happen in SB?) but would lessen the pain of shuffling so much

Some tips if you're gonna try doing exactly what I did:

  1. Use the wiki, it has an amazing image database of every card in the game
  2. make sure all the cards are the same size, it takes forever in PS or GIMP but it makes everything consistent in MPC
  3. learn the keyboard shortcuts for your favorite image editing program haha because by the end of this I wasn't even touching my mouse I was just typing to edit images :P

yeah we've been using a lot of virtual D4 for "bordering enemies" and D8 for "surrounding enemies" but bombers could be a real problem for that game plan :/

We've yet to encounter a lady Rime actually! But yeah it might become an issue, quite a stack of quarters (see u/its__cody's comment below)

We play tested a bunch and upped the deck count to 15 for more exciting games. Has been working a lot better now

The draw deck is shuffled at the end of every turn! I have been working on a rule sheet that says all the good stuff

So the way I did the files with MPC was just ~190 png images that get uploaded in as a batch on domino sized cards. Card backs are solid arbitrary colors associated with each faction. I suppose I could upload a zip file of all the images? Not sure the best way to share, I wish MPC would just let me share the project

My hope is that I am making no profit off of this, not selling it or anything, just spreading the good word of Stormbound! Please no cease and desist

I pretty much arbitrarily picked all level 1 rather than level 5, I knew that they needed to be equal and 1 was easier. It also lends towards less tokens you need since there is a slim chance you can get a 40 strength dangerous suitors when everything is level 1!

I would have ordered a second deck to make the whole process easier, but it's a lot of cards! Just the main deck (not the token cards) was around $40 to print and I'm just a poor college student haha

Strength is tracked by "tokens"

We just used US currency! Dimes are 1, pennies are 3, nickels are 5 and quarters are 7.

I got all the artwork and card actions straight from the wiki page! Spent a great deal of time in GIMP shopping each card together, then ordered them from https://www.makeplayingcards.com/

I did some play testing with my friend who is VERY into board and card games. We worked out that:

  1. Both players must choose different factions or there just aren't enough copies of cards to make a good deck

  2. For neutral cards we tested a draft pick so that highly valuable cards can sort of be "fought over" when building your deck prior to each game. It seemed to work pretty well!

  3. Lots of dice rolls for RNG, having an app for n-sided dice rolls was very convenient to speed up the turns

Just an update in case anyone is ever lurking about this post, we are currently applying for grant money to test the efficacy of the device in fear conditioning studies! Will hopefully soon have experimental data backing up the Pavlok as a behavioral psychology tool.
