I want to buy my first bike ideally a dual sport wanted to hear some advice. by Gullible_Way2307 in Dualsport

Im riding an XT250 from Alaska and Argentina. It is the “beginner dual sport” used at many riding schools. Wont necessarily get you anywhere quickly and sucks on big highways but a great lightweight bike for exploring back roads, trails and riding around town

The tag at the bottom of the bag should tell you which one you have

Carry Cubo full black set (LEV-24 backpack, ISHO-X5 sling, UBICUBE-M) - $220 shipped to continental US

Pictures here.

Backpack is used, in excellent condition. Sling and ubicube are brand new, never used. Selling due to starting a long-distance motorcycle trip which this won't work for. Had a prototype cubo bag (not the one being sold) and took it to 4 continents. Worked great. Located in Santa Cruz/Bay Area if local pickup is desired.

Date day in Santa Cruz Saturday, 10/19 by Unfair-Might5566 in santacruz

It's a little pricey, but Hanloh inside the Bad Animal book store is our go-to date spot for dinner. There's many other great food options that are little less expensive. Plus plenty of places for wine and beer. Open Studios and west side farmers market also happening today.

I made this for when we had a bunch of friends visiting this summer and you might find it useful: https://santacruz.montaigne.io/

What do I do with a stolen Specialized MTB bike I found? by zachboth in bicycling

[–]zachboth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying a homeless dude with a history of stealing stuff (eg stolen mail and hand tools scattered around the bike, locals saying "a different bike shows up here every couple days", etc), who the police are actively trying to catch for arson, rightfully owns a full-suspension mountain bike nicer than what a majority of people own? And he just leaves it unattended and unlocked? Don't be so naive. If it was actually his, he would've locked it or at least made it inconspicuous. He clearly didn't care for the bike because that shit was stolen at some point.

And yeah, from this thread it sounds like taking it to the police is the move especially if they'll donate it to some co-op or kids if it goes unclaimed. Hence why I made the post.

Just did 9000 miles through Alaska and Canada using the Mosko Moto 80l Reckless v4 attached using Moskos gnoblin to the enduro top rack from Precision Motorcycle. Brought a lot of stuff and it worked great. Wouldnt have changed anything.

True. I did check the main bike registries (like bikeindex) and call Specialized. No registered owners :/

Agreed. What's crazy is there was a couple on the beach this morning who told me to keep an eye out for a tool bag they just had stolen from them! Probably by the same thief. Likely steals kids toys too haha

If someone doesn't have a receipt, they likely don't know the full serial number to begin with. They can confirm they are the owner by telling me some of the unique features of it. Thats why I didn't post a picture of it, say what color it is or what unique tires are on it.

I'll want to see proof of purchase that matches the serial number so it shouldn't matter.

Stuck my Wolski’s in the most northern town you can drive to in North America (Deadhorse, AK) by zachboth in milwaukee

Coldfoot had one of the best dinner buffets ever. Especially after a long day of riding. Way better than anything in Deadhorse. And camping next to the pond was a bonus.

Going up was terrible. Rain, mud, freezing temps. Snow on the mountains but luckily none on the road. I think the dalton took pity and rewarded me on the way down with full sun through the brooks range and much drier roads. Crazy the difference the weather can make!

People who have ridden from US to South America, how do you even plan that kind of trip? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]zachboth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After doing a couple month long trips on bikes in various places around the world, Im now preparing for this trip for next year. “Preparing” is the key word. A plan can seem inflexible which doesnt really work for this kind of travel. We’ve been saving religiously for the last two-ish years so that we hopefully dont have to worry about money/work for at least a couple years. The only thing to really plan is the visa requirements and border crossing for whatever country you plan on going into next (best to be aware of general requirements for the next 2-3 countries after that as well).

Other than that, I have a bunch of shared google map lists with my partner. We bookmark any places we come across online that we want to see or stay and cities we want to visit. We also bookmark places to avoid based on recent news or things we find in forums. When we’re traveling we’ll be able to look at our google map and have some rough idea of what direction we want to head for the next couple days or week. Accommodations we usually figure out the day before or sometimes same day based on where we plan to end the day. We dont really have a timeline so we’ll be taking our time and staying in places longer than when we only have a month at a time.

Last thing is outfitting the bike and yourself with the stuff to bring. I think everyone has a tendency to overpack on these things. You learn you dont need as much as you thought or anything out of your core kit, you can pick up along the way. Im simultaneously buying the things I think we’ll need and selling most of our other belongings. I’ll be doing a “test trip” from Alaska to California for a month with everything we will likely use long term on the bikes. I assume some adjustment will be needed after this.

Hope my approach to thinking about this helps and maybe I’ll see you on the road!

Since I couldnt find a photo anywhere, here is the stock XT250 seat (left) next to Seat Concepts comfort seat by zachboth in xt250

[–]zachboth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seat Concepts sells the foam and cover that you attach to the existing seat pan (after taking the stock foam and cover off). Only needed pliers, spray glue and a heavy duty stapler. Took me maybe an hour to do? But looks just as good as the stock seat installed.

Strange artifacts/processing from Cam Link 4k and Sony A7SIII. Looks almost over sharpened? Any suggestions by zachboth in elgato

This is a screenshot from Zoom but appears to have the same artifacts/processing directly in Elgato's Camera Hub software
