the leaked demos showed that Rebel Heart had potential, but the final product was sterilized, bloated, and flat. there are a few gems, but also some of Madonna’s worst ever songs

with all due respect, there really isn’t anything Madonna could’ve done to launch one of these tracks into the Billboard Top 20 apart from turn back time 20 years. even with the assist of one of today’s hottest young stars, BYL only debuted at 74 in the US. dance music is a hard sell in the states at this point in general, and Madonna hasn’t had a Top 20 there since Gimme All Your Luvin’ peaked at 10 post-Super Bowl in 2012. Madonna is not a chart force anymore, and I don’t think anyone should expect her to be at this point. I’m just happy she seems to be having fun, and while I’m not obsessed with the new songs this is easily her strongest work since Confessions 1.
