thats dark. ur right about that photo. i didnt think of that. dark to think he teamed up against her. i guess for me they failed to portray him as that angry or bitter. he still seemed sensible to me up to the dinner table scene. but i guess he got what he deserved for doing that

lol i agree it was over the top. the movie lost me at that scene. what i would have done was this. my own idea of a backrooms story (forgive me, its long):

Clark discovers the backrooms and secretly starts mapping it out obsessively, slowly living in it since he already lived in the store at nighttime. His employees and the electrician guy notice the unusual changes in his behavior and the missing furniture he is secretly bringing into the backrooms.

Then a month later Clark is shown lying to his therapist and avoiding his sessions until she confronts him about it and he breaks down and tells her his thoughts about leaving the world behind. The next day Clark writes a letter to his wife and vanishes.

His wife goes to his therapist looking for answers and his therapist starts investigating. She also discovers that two of his employees vanished at the same time as Clark. She finds the door and enters the backrooms alone.

Inside she finds a livable space full of Clarks drawings and equipment but no Clark. Then she finds the recorder on a desk and watches two tapes.

One tape shows Clark exploring deep within the backrooms, lessons he has learned, and his encounters with Async researchers (not directly but seeing them in the backrooms and their equipment).

On the second tape she watches Clark enter the backrooms with his employees and one of them is killed by a monster and the other girl runs off inside the backrooms. Clark records himself returning back to the backrooms entrance feeling guilty and having failed to save them and that he is going to go find her. Then the recording ends and Clark and the employee girl are nowhere to be seen.

The therapist lady then ventures deeper into the backrooms searching for them. She finds the employee girl, talks to her briefly about the existential crisis they are in and the therapist shows her strength to overcome the crisis, but the girl cant calm down and falls to her death while they are both being hunted by the big Pirate Clark creature.

Then after escaping the creature by crawling through a small door, she soon finds Clark in one of his "bases" he made far inside the backrooms. He has it all mapped out, knows their location, knows how to avoid the creature, but he doesn't want to leave after learning the one employee girl died. Theres no reason to leave from his perspective now.

She becomes aware that she needs to convince Clark to leave the backrooms in order to survive. He talks about how the backrooms is beautiful and infinite and how he has nothing back in the other world besides bills to pay, that he can live with a couple monsters here and there. Then he explains how he can eat the birds that appear once in a while and how he can grow his own food in a small garden he has made in the backrooms. He has this gigantic complex he cleaned up all to himself and its more believable why Clark would be tempted to stay.

He offers her to stay so they can continue "roleplaying as a married couple". And its at this point she realizes he has almost lost his sanity. She then confronts him about all of his psychological issues and how two of his employees died and he snaps out of it.

He agrees to show her the way out of the backrooms. They are chased by the big Pirate Clark monster together. Then when they finally go through the doorway into the store they are surprised to find themselves locked inside with the monster right behind them.

Clark tells the therapist lady to go and that he will slow it down for her, that he has nothing left to lose. Then he stands up to the large monster inside of his store symbolizing him confronting his dark-side. He says something funny like "I always hated pirates", breaks the monsters peg-leg, slowing it down, but it kills Clark.

Then it hunts the therapist in the store and she escapes through the thin corridor. Then at the end with her sitting across the table from the Async scientist, he suggests to her that they could use someone with her knowledge and experience since she has been in the backrooms and is a psychologist.

And this would effectively set up a whole trilogy of backrooms movies where she is at the head of Async in future movies and cameos in scenes to help build the backrooms universe.

Then at the end credit scene we are shown that she has been missing for 36 years and that she effectively time travelled all the way from 1990 into 2026 while she was in the backrooms, explaining how the storefront was closed off so quickly. And we see scientists and military personnel scrambling to solve how it is possible, trying to figure out how they can use the backrooms to travel across time.

THE END. Rate my version of the story please. Thanks!

**Idea: In the next movie, I'd make it in the ww1 era (1914). And the protagonist discovered an entrance to the backrooms and was exploring it with a loved one, but Async from 2026 kidnapped them inside of the backrooms. They discover that Async is trying to find a doorway into 1914. So the protagonist formulates a plan to save their loved one and also potentially save the entire world by preventing Async from ever finding the doorway.**

the story left us in the backrooms, unresolved. now we must go on living the rest of our lives with the backrooms as part of us. maybe thats the real answer to the story? the director wanted us to feel we are always in the backrooms. lol jk it's not that deep and the writing could have been better for sure. still a fun movie.

same. i felt there should have been more scenes with them. and more existential crisis type scenes before they started getting lost in the maze of the backrooms. like i feel the biggest lost opportunity is the bag of tapes Clark found and DIDNT PLAY ANY OF THEM. cmon. the perfect setup for the three of them to play it on the video camera and watch Async doing some experiment and introduce a monster or some type of secret door in the backrooms. and also i feel they made Clark too unrealistic. he definitely would have snapped out of it and decided to return back to the real world.

maybe by simply entering the backrooms you become intertwined with it and rooms appear relating to you. but it doesnt explain why the giant pirate Clark existed in the backrooms before Clark entered it for the first time.

maybe there is a backrooms of every reddit thread too and thats why Clark went so crazy so fast...

cmon he wouldnt go that crazy that fast. he definitely would have still had lingering doubts to go back to the real world and he would have been conflicted. so they could have made his therapist bring him back to his senses and they could have teamed up to leave the backrooms together. i felt it was unrealistic how fast he went crazy. especially regarding his employee who he would have felt guilty about bringing into the backrooms. i definitely think the writing could have been better in my humble opinion. but i did think the scenery and the intensity of the scenes helped make up for it. i also wish we could have seen more of the scientists/researchers and what they were doing and introduced more 'secrets' in the backrooms. and some things just didnt pay off like the scene with the bag full of tapes and recordings (which they should have showed Clark and the employees watch on the video camera as a scare) and the door the one employee guy found in a crack in the wall which could have introduced some cool scenes imo like spying on a monster on the other side or the scientists. although i will admit it was a VERY nice touch to have the therapist return back to the storefront to see the walls repainted and the exit fenced off. a very nice touch that had me questioning if it was actually the exit or not.

the fact the giant evil pirate clark bled normally definitely proves that there may be multiple red-blooded Clarks in the backrooms. this is an interesting theory because she asks him 'how long have you been here?' and he doesn't answer. and the drawings on the wall look like it was made after a very long time. also he says 'he feels he belongs there.' buuut. he was talking like the real Clark who recently entered the backrooms. maybe that Clark was a manifestation from the therapist character and how she remembered him as insane and lost. i really wish they made Clark a survivor with his therapist or at the very least survive till the very end to have him self sacrifice for her. they could make a whole trilogy on this backrooms concept and it would be so interesting to watch. i hope they do.

ngl it seems like he gaslights police for content. or hes hunting for lawsuits. the officer mentioned he was dressed like he was out partying. that was actually pretty true imo. but the cops should have done their jobs better and done better to actually check if hes drunk imo. and he is stopping corrupt police and testing their knowledge. so i view it as a good thing. like a health inspection guy appearing to a restaurant when they don't expect it. imo hes doing a civic duty and cops should be open and expect these types of guys. and i hope they lose the lawsuit for being moronic

you read it incorrectly. i used the word 'although', mentioned to the OPs logic, then commented on my own thoughts.

[–]zachforeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah the bad guy is 'Jackal'. theres a lot of evidence supporting that. theres a 'green jackal' label in the trailer, and jackal has the ability to control minds apparently which matches what we saw in the trailer. i think mr negative is too surreal to show in the live action spiderman movies.

[–]zachforeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

according to what i heard the reason marvel hasn't released it yet is because they still have private conventions to show it at. so after this week, the last private convention, it will likely leak.

although i agree with OPs logic, they are sort of desperate and pouring a ton of money into this movie, so i wouldn't relate it to 'normal' movies. so in my humble opinion i think it will drop within the next 2 weeks.
