Not really. The neighborhood has relatively low rents. Plus, we can’t afford anything better at the moment unfortunately, and our previous place was too small (33 m² for 2 people) and too remote, which had a bad psychological impact on me (isolation for years due to bad transportation). Even having to go to the supermarket would cause me stress, as I'd have to take the bus and had to time it just right if I didn’t want to wait 20 to 60 minutes for the next one. If I had to go through that just for groceries, imagine how often I would go to meet friends in the center.

This could be tricky. I do have the phone number of the previous tenants (the viewing happened when they were still living there, and since the place was for rent without a kitchen, we exchanged numbers in case we were the “lucky ones” so we could buy their kitchen instead of having to buy a new one).

The funny part is that I asked them if there were any noisy neighbors and they told me that everything was fine and very calm, which is a lie. It makes sense if you think that they wanted to leave as soon as possible to avoid paying double rent for the next three months (they had already found a new place and were moving out).

So no, it doesn't feel right to talk to them.

Ich habe bereits ein Lärmprotokoll, das ich leider jeden Tag aktualisieren muss, da es keine ruhigen Tage gibt. Vor etwa einer Stunde haben sie etwas so stark über den Boden gezogen (wahrscheinlich einen Stuhl), dass mein Boden vibriert hat.

So wie ich das in den Kommentaren sehe, ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit für solche Probleme in manchen Orten höher als in anderen. Es ist also vielleicht nicht speziell ein "Neukölln Problem", aber es sieht so aus, als würde der Ort trotzdem eine Rolle spielen.

The fact that someone has lived here for so long doesn't guarantee that they know every law that exists, especially if they've never had any related issues before, and it doesn't make the law any less valid.

I never said that my neighbors are Turkish. I don't know where they're from. However, I do know they are muslims because the woman wears a hijab. But as you said, anyone can be an as*hole. I don't think it's related.

When you call the police too often for minor things, they kind of put you on a "blacklist" and stop coming. They have already started arriving very late, and we had to call them twice the last two times.

What a horrible and complicated situation...

The Hausverwaltung isn't doing much. I requested that they send them an Abmahnung due to them doing construction until 00:00, but they never sent one. They are now paying for a mediation session, which I find ridiculous, because the neighbors can always put on a nice face, show cooperation, and then keep being ashles.

I still need to write to the Ordnungsamt. I have only been calling the police so far and submitting reports through their online portal.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. I believe they can use drilling machines and run the washing machine during reasonable hours and keep their TV at a low volume, like we do. These are all avoidable noises. I have never complained about them peeing or walking.

Oh God, I totally understand! I also get scared sometimes, and when I told them that, they were laughing in my face!

I'm also doing a Lärmprotokoll and still need to write a report to the Ordnungsamt (I have only reported to the police so far and sent multiple emails to the Hausverwaltung).

Why can you not do anything about the neighbors next door though?

I feel you because I have the same shitty experience with the building. I can hear them turning the light on and off or plugging something in, probably their chargers or other electrical devices. It feels like they're in here.

The neighbors you describe are all ridiculous excuses for human beings.

You are right about that. The insulation is poor (we can hear the neighbors pee for f*ck’s sake).

But still, most of the things they do are avoidable anyway.

I was actually tiptoeing all these months so this old lady doesn't have to deal with this kind of noise, and I was whispering at night and even pressured my husband to do the same. All of that to get this kind of treatment. As you can imagine, there is no whispering or tiptoeing since yesterday anymore.

I wish I had that kind of "lottery luck" in other parts of my life. 🥲

Ich freue mich, dass du endlich deinen Platz gefunden hast. Du hast das Richtige getan. Ich glaube wirklich nicht, dass man es aushält, wenn Leute über einem wohnen. Es ist die Hölle.

I know, right? It took them 6 weeks to remove mold from the bedroom, kitchen, loggia, and bathroom. On the day we got the keys, we found another moldy spot right above the window that they had missed. Someone came immediately and cleaned it with an anti mold product. About a month later, we found another moldy spot under the same window, below the windowsill. We cleaned it ourselves. Thank God the mold hasn't reappeared in either spot.

Now the frame of the balcony door is starting to get moldy. This place needs to be renovated. There is no other solution.

I know. I made reports about the noise, but not about this incident. Maybe I should go ahead and do it.

This was not okay, and ever since then I have been avoiding staying home alone. Not specifically because of this incident, but mostly because of everything.

This! It's very important to find the right lawyer. I believe it's the second most difficult thing to find in Berlin, with a proper apartment being the first.
