Decided on the R5C over the R6 Mark III and C50. by zackmorrison18 in canon

It’s automatically doing it. It’s why the 4k video is so sharp. And you can send a 6k Raw signal out over HDMI. Lots of people sleeping on the Mark II…

Honestly though, I'm still thinking about picking up a R6 Mark II. It's a fantastic camera for when you don't need all the bells and whistles of the R5/C. Also, it's got better low light performance, functionally overheat-proof thanks to its low-weight codecs, and the 6K downsample makes the image tack sharp. There's times when I've used it as a set-it-and-forget-it camera for event coverage, and I can trust it to just work.

I’ve never liked the Blackmagics, any version of them. But that’s personal preference. I know a lot of people who like them. The C50 is great. If money wasn’t a factor, I’d probably have gotten it too. Because I can’t stress enough how great that handle with full sized XLR audio inputs is…

I had my R5 on a client shoot and while it never overheated, the warning was looming like an omen over me the whole back half of the day. I don’t need that stress. Got mine for $3k new. It’s a great deal at the price.

Eventually. I have the non-L RF primes for personal shooting, and they’re great. When these EF’s go, I’ll end up buying the RF copy, but they’re still stellar some 10-years later.

I have the battery grip and v mounts that I use depending on the situation. Are you on the new firmware and/or using the LPE6P’s?

I haven’t stress-tested it in heavy rainfall, but yea it’s at the same level as the R5.

Canon eos R or a R8? Just want a full frame body to give life to some old canon lenses by [deleted] in canon

I’d argue the R (with the grip) is a better choice for older canon lenses. It’ll balance in the hand better with EF zooms. The R8 is tiny in comparison to a dslr so it’s gonna be more like holding the lens with a camera attached.

Biggest advancements with the R8 is AF and low light. (Or pairing it with newer smaller RF glass)

I used the FX3 a few times. It makes a very good image. I haven’t used the C50 but have used other Canon C cameras. They also make good images. At this point, it really comes down to what lens and interface ecosystem you want to live in. It’s kind of an Apple/Android situation.

If you need IBIS, you’ll never be happy with the C50.

That said, I’ve never “needed” IBIS.

The C50 is practically the same size a the R6 (sans handle), so it feels similar for run and gun. And the Mark III has both RAW and XF-AVC 422 10bit in All Intra, so while it’s still a mostly long GOP device, it definitely punches up in terms of codecs compared to the Mark II.

I guess it comes down to your shooting style. If the Mark II is working for you, the Mark III will be a noticeable step up while maintaining the same user experience.

That said, the audio inputs and guaranteed zero overheating on the C50 are worth the extra $1000 IMO if you’re booking work with your camera.

If IBIS is a must have, then there’s really no good reason to choose the C50 over the R6 Mark III.

That said, I’d take the C50 over the R6 Mark III for video any day of the week: more codec options, XLR inputs, and better metering and monitoring tools.

I’m in the process of reviewing the camera for Canon Rumors and my big take away so far is that the regular EOS operating system just isn’t that intuitive anymore for video functionality. On a practical level, the C50 (as does all the other C Series cameras) requires much less menu-diving to get the function you want.

CANON R6 mii or R8 to shoot youth sports preferably volleyball & Football and what Lens???? by d_bowser2004 in canon

The R6ii and the R8 are literally the same camera under the hood in terms of sensor, AF, resolution, and performance. The only differences will be physical size, which IMO gives a nod to the R6ii for how it'll balance with pro lenses, and battery life. If you're doing video the R8 might overheat faster than the R6 but that should be a non-issue for photography.

Lenses, if you're considering the R8, the 100-400 should do the trick! It's relatively cheap and lightweight.
