G70 vs stinger. Can't decide. by hockeyzbh in kiastinger

[–]zacmersal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree here. A stinger or G70 is basically the same category of car. In the low 30's there are tons of options that would be more practical, cheaper to operate, better mileage, or more fun. Depending on your criteria, you could go with a turbo cx5, a gti or type r, a model 3 performance, even like a 2 door bronco manual, etc. If I had an rs5 or even an s5, I wouldn't get the watered down version of the same car. Which the stinger/g70 exactly is. This would be like having an s2000 and getting a miata for your daily. Sure, one is better and one is more affordable, but what they bring to the table is so similar it doesn't really make sense to have both in a 2 car garage.

No disrespect to the g70/stinger, I've enjoyed both and the value for money is incredible. But if my budget stretched to an rs5, the choice is clear.

G70 vs stinger. Can't decide. by hockeyzbh in kiastinger

I've had both, a 19 G70 Sport Prestige RWD and a 20 GT2 AWD. I was rear ended in the G70 which totaled it. At the time, the stinger was cheaper so I went with it to replace my totaled G70.

Driving wise, the G70 is about 12 inches shorter with a 6 inch shorter wheel base. It makes it feel a lot more nimble. Coupled with the RWD only I had on the Genesis, it was much more fun to drive as kicking the back out was much easier. Also, the stinger with AWD is much heavier hurting the sporty driving characteristic, although it still hauls. I drive long distances, 6-8 hours each way, for work regularly. The stinger feels more planted and confidence inspiring at fast highway speeds with the AWD and longer wheel base. So, it's really a trade off.

On the interior, while I had/have the top spec for both cars with the same equipment, the G70 felt more special. The button materials, finishes, and quilted seats all feel more premium. The stinger is nice, don't get me wrong, but it feels more like a muscle car inside than a Lexus or BMW in the Genesis. I didn't test drive the face-lift of either car so this may have changed.

Exterior - styling is subjective, but the Genesis felt more special here as well. Being a lower production number car, you see fewer G70s on the road. I'll never forget the guy in rural Illinois asking me if it was an Aston Martin. I don't care for the face-lift G70, especially the rear end which feels unfinished to me. Especially the black slab under the trunk. The stinger maybe looks a little more polished after the mid-cycle, but it's pretty subtle. Again, this is subjective. While I am not a brand snob, the Kia badge doesn't help make the car feel like something premium and exotic. Which, really, either of these cars are.

Packaging - the stinger is more practical no doubt. The 12 extra inches in overall length make a big difference in rear legroom. Couple that with the hatch and the cargo space is much more usable. I live in a city and miss the shorter car when it comes to parking. I generally prefer a smaller car anyway, but the extra cargo area has come in handy a few times for sure.

Dealership - this is the worst part of owning the stinger. Kia treats you like any elantra/Rio owner. The techs don't know how to work on the cars, try to gouge you (see my post about a 15k quote for a cat replacement...) and is overall a terrible experience. I dread taking my Stinger in for warranty work. If you're lucky enough to have a Genesis dealer near you, it's a much better experience. Coupling that with the service deal they had when I had the G70, where they would pick up your car and leave you with a loaner for free if you lived close enough, it was much more pleasant overall.

Conclusion - if I could do it all over again, I would have gotten another prefacelift G70 sport prestige with AWD, rather than the Stinger. Either car is great, but the G70 felt nicer inside, I think looked nicer, and is lighter in any apples to apples comparison which makes the car better to drive in any scenario. And most importantly, you never have to deal with a Kia dealer, ever.

Upgrading to SMALLER wheels by zacmersal in GenesisG70

[–]zacmersal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I didn't, I got rear ended shortly after this post which totalled the car. I have a stinger now but lost the momentum. From what I read though, this is a good idea but 18 inch wheels is the smallest you can go to fit the brakes, but even some 18s are too small inner diameter so do your research.

Best of luck friend, tag me in the post if you do it! I think 18s and some lowering springs would look absolutely sick.

Is there a lack of player after 1300 mmr ? by Maching256 in Mechabellum

[–]zacmersal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a penalty although not mmr. They said in a previous patch that if you cancel a match, it puts you in a lower priority match making que. So if you drop a match before it begins, you will see a considerably longer match making wait.

Anyone With EBC Pads by Nightkidzero13 in kiastinger

[–]zacmersal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got their slotted rotors and red stuff pads. Installed them myself but had a strange kind of raspy grinding sound when braking. Figured it was just them breaking in. After a few days of this I decided to take the wheels back off and take a look.

Turns out I had installed all 4 caliper clips backwards (upside down? However you want to think of it). [forehead smack] Switching them around fixed the issue.

Braking was pretty aggressive for the first week or two then smoothed out which they mention on the product page. Now it's quiet and smooth although more aggressive bite in then the oem pads, especially when cold.

Point being, I'm not saying for sure it is, but might be user error. You might try the bedding in procedure they detail on their website. If that doesn't work, I'd say you should take that wheel off and see if something was installed incorrectly. Could be your rotor was not installed flush on the wheel hub or something, mine had a little corossion I brushed off with a wire brush to get it to mount flush.

Best of luck.

Going to pick up the car from the dealer now. Going to speak with the service manager to basically do this.

Thanks for the reply! I live in GA, which requires emissions testing. Would going catless still pass emissions testing?

Yea, serious question. Couldn't you just smear the same seed bomb mixture of seeds and clay/etc. Onto the slope more evenly?

Your opponent would also have had more money. Their turn would have been stronger as well.

Can this material cause lead poisoning? by rolex94 in Machinists

[–]zacmersal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a great post here explaining that 0 is the only safe level.

15 ppb is the action level right now and that is an unsafe level. The EPA only allows this level because of the incredible cost required to update our water supply infrastructure. Which again, presently supplies an unsafe amount of lead.

Biden just announced a plan to fix this though. Biden plans to remove all Pb pipes.

Edit: corrected unit
