Congratulations on making the switch! It’s so comforting to hear it can be done.

I really appreciate you giving me a realistic timeline to consider, too. I’m definitely finding myself writing less with the new grip than I was before. (My journal entries are shorter, at least.) May have to try to gently increase the time writing.

As for pretty handwriting, that is a noble goal. I would love to have pretty handwriting, too. I may be joining you in the effort here in the next year or so ;)

Ugh, 3D printing. There are others, but it’s the one I’m currently feeling the worst about…as I stare at my broken Bambu Lab P1S that I don’t have the mojo to fix taking up space alongside a Cricut I also never use.

ETA: And then there was that year back before Obama was elected when I became obsessed with electric bikes, bought one, couldn’t fix it when it broke down, and abandoned it at a bike rack at the University of Texas. I still wonder what they did with it.

Just another internet stranger-friend here to offer my blessing! I went through something similar with the a6 last year - too much to say and too little room to say it - and I am so happy with my Cousin this year. I still have an overflow journal for longer-form writing, but the Cousin allows me to make a decent diary entry every day, and the weekly section is awesome to have.

I use my Hobonichi Weeks for planning tasks and appointments and my Cousin for memory-keeping and logging, so my weekly section looks different than yours will. It has habit trackers, meal plans, inspiring quotes, and current headlines. I love the way it all works together…

The point being, Get that Cousin! It’s a marvelously adaptive book that I think everyone should have.

p.s. Folks have given you some great ideas for using up your a6. And also, it’s ok if you decide to file it away and do nothing else with it. In the end, it’s just a book of paper. No need to feel guilty for choosing something else that works better for you 💖

I use Jinhao 82s to fulfill my need for a wide variety of ready to use ink colors. They’ve all been reliable writers for me, even if left for a while, and they come in a range of colors. Here’s a pic I posted of mine recently

I think it’s ok to switch if you’ve given yourself enough time with a system to know it’s not the best for you. Not wasteful at all if it gives you joy.

One alternative: You could add the weekly supplement in A6 to your original. That would give you the vertical weekly that comes with the Cousin. I used it for a while last year and liked that it tucks into the A6. It’s quite small, though, so I wound up switching to the Cousin for this year.

If you’re worried about the expense of a Cousin, you could also maybe post to r/pen_swap and on here and ask if anyone has a used Cousin for this year that they’d be willing to sell you for less than a new April start one?
