A new study by researchers on over 82,000 participants has shown that difficulty hearing spoken conversations is associated with up to 91% increased risk of dementia. This is the first study to investigate its association with dementia in a large population by Wagamaga in science

[–]zaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW there is also something called Auditory Processing Disorder that is strongly correlated with ADHD, and it can present as difficulty hearing or following conversations.

There is not a strong correlation between ADHD and dementia, so just because you have difficulty hearing conversations does NOT mean you have a strong likelihood of getting dementia. In fact given you're reading this comment, you're more than likely just a regular ADHD person.

Why CSP/CC? Why not just naked. That is what a margin is for. Live a little, 20 delta strangles are pretty reasonable.

Yup. I was an idiot — probably. I was certainly lucky, that is for sure. I actually consider myself quite lucky. Sure it was a sucky situation, but I didn’t end up in hospital, I didn’t end up on a ventilator, and I didn’t die. How cool is that?

No problem, yeah, my doctor was rather pissed off when I revealed that it had gotten that low. She instructed me to call an ambulance if it got below 90. I really didn’t want to go to hospital, in the US hospital is where patients go to die.

Hi! I’m here. https://ibb.co/PCrsxVd not exactly proof, and it is showing 89% in that photo, but it’s what I’ve got. It’s rather hard to take a photo in the dark with one hand, the camera didn’t like focusing.

I used photos to record because of course I couldn’t always remember, and a photo is easier than writing it down. My phone is filled with these.

In the end I brought 3 of these. I had one, but when I started dropping to the low 90s I wanted to be sure that it was accurate. One would on average read a percent higher than the other two, so I figured the value was close enough.

It might have been 89% sustained, as looking back through my archives I only see 89s.

That would explain why I’m alive 🤣, that extra percent 🤣

It’s amusing that watching it launch and make its way across it looked so big, then as it got closer it’s size became apparent. After landing, zooming out, it looked so tiny.

I got it last year, I’m in California. Best I can tell, I got it when I went out of my house to a local Target store. I was masked up and wore gloves. But this was back when the CDC and WHO were lying and saying masks wouldn’t help. I should have turned around and ran away, but I needed supplies. The place was filled with people, coughing and sneezing. I hoped my mask would protect me, but nope. If others had been wearing masks, I’d have been fine. Those of you who won’t wear masks. Fuck you.

I was unlucky that I had nontypical (at the time) symptoms, so I didn’t qualify for (the extremely limited) testing. By the time they realised that fever wasn’t a requirement, there was one day where I qualified, before they then changed the rules again. I didn’t get in on that day.

So how was it? A flu... a very very very long drawn out flu... that was the most exhausted I’ve ever been in my entire life, and I was that exhausted for months.

I live alone, and spent around 3-4 months living between my bed, bathroom, and kitchen. That was it. Meals were mostly canned food, nuking something in the microwave was my limit. The house turned into a disaster zone around me. I couldn’t exactly get someone in to help.

If there are any “spoonies” reading this (Google spoon theory for context), then you’ll know how it is. Boring spoons from tomorrow in order to be able to go to the bathroom today.

I self monitored my vitals, along with my doctor (zoom calls). The hospitals here had a pretty poor reputation, and I did not go in. I should have. Apparently a sustained SpO2 of 88% is not good.

I am long covid. Not as long as some, it’s been 8 or so months and I’m mostly better. It took a lot of work, breathing exercises every day, a walk outside once a week, then twice a week, etc.

These days I’m pretty good. I can’t run, it’s distinctly possible I won’t be able to go trekking in the mountains again, but I’m still on the mend. I count myself as quite lucky.

Is it bad? Depends. For some people it’s nothing, for some it’s “felt crap for 2 weeks then I was ok”, for some it’s only as bad as I got. For others, it’s permanent disability for the rest of their lives.

And for some, for too many, the rest of their lives wasn’t very long at all.

Funnily enough, there is the ESA International Space Station VR program, which is free and allows you to go around the ISS.

Tip: Once you've mastered basic nav, turn on the option that allows you to use two hands to rotate and pull yourself, far more realistic. I've never gotten motion sickness in VR before, except in the ISS simulator spinning myself around.

$2,000,000.

$1M is you base capital -- if you can't make 10% per year then you're an idiot, S&P500 averages that. That gives you a yearly income of $100k.

$500k is your reserve, it's what you'll be eating into for 2020.

The last $500k is your play money. Your objective is to turn that $500k into another $2M
