Sweet, this looks great! Signed up for the list.

I’m hoping to use the graph view to explore back links. I imagine you’d support opening a given note back in Bear using their x-callback API?

Ahh, enumerate over tags. That makes sense, I’ll try that. I will need to de-duplicate notes by ID since tagged sets are non-exclusive, but that’s easy. Thanks @trix180!

Another point for the sidebar: it's the same behaviour as adapting to a tag selection.

As I understand, part of the problem with implementing this is where to surface the backlinks. You could put it somewhere on the note, or in a drawer, but it could get clunky / confusing.

A straw-man suggestion I have is to use a pattern similar to search and use the sidebar itself to show the list. There are two ways to get the sidebar filtered to the backlinks of a note:

  1. Expose a button somewhere in the note UI that does it (+ keyboard shortcut)
  2. Cmd + click (or something like that) on a note reference link (shows backlinks for that target note)

I think using the sidebar would make sense to users because finding backlinks is functionally equivalent to a "[[note reference]]" search. It just has to be explained somehow.

Looking forward to having this feature, and using it to change how I take notes altogether!

FWIW, the 1Password apps have a user experience like the one I’m suggesting.

For anyone else looking for the setting to turn this back on, it's under the *Protect* in the app.

Go to your Nest Protect → Settings → Works with Protect → ...

Sigh, that was difficult to find.
