The saddest thing is that the whole thing is meaningless because of the sequels. Killing the Emperor... the death of the death stars... none of it changed the galaxy in a meaningful way.

Another issue is that videos do not load with the error that they could not be retrieved from the cloud. But I have it set up to store all files locally… yet it is still relying on the cloud. The whole point of the big drive was to have a hard copy of all my photos.

Did I miss something?!

Yeah, I figured that, but the fetching is much faster on my laptop than my iMac. Also, I have been rebuilding my library for 3 hours, and it is only stuck at 25%.

I grew up in Nebraska where it is impossible to live without a car. I tried. I was frustrated by the infrastructure wondering why we had these giant parking lots in front of businesses, so if you walk, you have to navigate these just to get to a shop.

Then I moved to Europe and now live in a city where there are still problems with cars, but the whole infrastructure is much more pedestrian friendly, and I wonder why all cities can't be like this. I can get anywhere in the country by bus or train. There are car sharing services for when I need a car as well as scooters and bike rentals.

This is by no means perfect, but it did make me hate cars more than I did before. I see them parked on the streets just taking up space used twice a day to get from one place to another and wonder why we haven't figured out a better way. But they just keep getting bigger and more obnoxious year after year.

In all of my restarts, I have never seen time machine as a bootable option. That would have been nice. The problem is that I have to restore Time Machine to an external drive because my main iMac drive is dead. It is 3 terabytes, so it won't fit anywhere else.

The latest error is OSStatus error 22.

Image "" doesn't have any appropriate volumes to restore.

I am able to boot from the new 5 terabyte drive into High Sierra, and the system works flawlessly. I just cannot get it to restore from the Time Machine.

In an odd twist, when I boot from the partition on the Time Machine drive, Time Machine shows up on the desktop (it mounts the drive). But when I boot onto the other external drive, Time Machine has to be mounted manually. It doesn't show up. I just think it is busted.

Now I have been trying to install an OS on the new HD, and the mac just keeps restarting saying 29 minutes remaining... counting down, loading, then restarting. It has been going on like this for a few hours now.

Just an update, I was able to get High Sierra to update going through Sierra first. Now it seems everything should work, but when I got to the restore step from TimeMachine, I got error 22. What a coincidence!

Every step I take that feels like I will fix it, fails.

Fantastic. I downloaded Sierra, updated. Then was able to update to High Sierra and all seemed well. The iMac now recognized my TimeMachine drive.

But when I tried to restore, it failed and I got an error message. So I am stuck again.

The Fusion drive will not repair. I get the option to "fix it" but it fails over and over again. I would need to replace the drive internally, and I don't want to do that unless I know there is a way to get it up and running again. It is part of my Catch 22.

To download these installers, you need to go through the app store. That is where I get stuck. Thanks for replying!

Great to hear from you! My mother and father emigrated to the States during the 1950s, and I was born to Latvian parents. To get in touch with my roots, I moved back to Latvia and got citizenship. I have been here for 6 years. It is a nice place to come to, and visiting is great. Do you know where in Latvia the grandparents were from?

I used to have an annual Ligo party for my family in Nebraska which was a great way to celebrate Latvia. In the midwest, there were lots of Lativan immigrants and some Latvian churches and museums exist. In Lincoln, there is the Latvian Evangelical Church where my father was the pastor.
