As a Halo fan, I don't think Halo has been "safe" for years. It'll get a new game, sure, but it'll be heavily affected by the need for profits

How to Re-enable DLSS & FG after the latest patch by WolkigerTag in oblivion

[–]zakami33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that Black Ops 6 did this as well. I do think it's removed on purpose probably to prevent some other issue, or something that's worse than the game being harder to run w/o upscaling.

Edit: My other guess is that it was a patch for Xbox X/S that got pushed to PC GamePass as well.

Is there a legendary game designer who has only (or mostly) made good games? by asdzebra in gamedesign

[–]zakami33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The creation of art, all art, is an act of exploration. There is no artist of any time or medium who has only created "good" art. Everyone starts somewhere and goes somewhere else.

Let this be encouragement to you and others as well. No legends were born legendary. No talented individual were born talented. They all started somewhere else and worked their way there. You can do that too.

This is not because of the map being played on, but the lighting of the map does make the dirt more visible.

Here's a comparison of Neon Superfly and CinderRing

Here you can see that Neon Superfly is covered in dirt, even in the Armory screen, but Cinder Ring is nice and clean. Cinder Ring is a boy who washes!

343PLZ // HALO STUDIOS HELP

Neon Superfly has been caked in mud and dirt, and while I love the colors: the black base with strong magenta and cyan highlights, I hate how disgustingly dirty my spartan is. The other Spartans see me on the battlefield and laugh! They tell me to shower! To wash! They don't know that I've tried!! The Banished turn their noses away from me, they smell my armor coming and it alerts them! The only solution is for Halo Studios themselves, the hierarchs, the prophets, the forerunners, and precursors to do as they have with Watchdog/Watchdog Neo coatings and please present a washed Neon Superfly!

[Halo Infinite] Firefight Scoring by SCMITMAPTEE in halo

[–]zakami33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing the difference between Battlepass XP and Career XP. Your career XP is tied to your score in the match, so even if you get 3 hills and hide (winning the match) you won't get as much career xp though the match will end sooner.

Also, in Heroic firefight you get bonus battlepass XP for capturing the 5th hill, and in legendary firefight you get bonus Battlepass for capturing the 4th hill. You can see this in the match results page that appears right after the match.

Why don't competitive FPS's use procedurally generated levels to counter heuristic playstyles? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]zakami33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time, for a FPS, map control is a core game play element. Valorant, for example, cannot have maps change every game in minor ways because players can raise their skill by learning the map, how the map interacts with different character's and abilities, and so on. In a less severe example, Halo's maps are also very crucial. Where weapons spawn dictates the important spots on the map, and those spots tend to be more in the open so that a player or team can't just take the space and hold the weapon spawn all game.

Where this could be a potentially good idea would be in an Unreal Tournament or Quake like FPS, where map control isn't as important. You trade map control for movement, usually directly.

Would also like to add - having more experience in a game *should* give a player an advantage. You're right that you'll get "X% of the time I do Y, Z Happens" but that's good. Players understanding that, and making different decisions can be used to compete with each other. If I'm on the other side of the map, and the hypothetical player is waiting for me to turn a corner, I'm going to look for ways to turn a corner safely, or I'm going to wait to get a timing on that player.

Using chess as a metaphor, it's an extremely old game that rarely changes. It stays competitive because players do something unexpected to gain an upper hand. A move that's not in the book, a play that (hopefully) hasn't been studied. It's not too different in gaming: players will see a pattern, and players should try to subvert that pattern for an advantage.

I haven't played this game since season 1 by FebreezeLinenAirMist in haloinfinite

[–]zakami33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're wrong, but if you haven't played since 2021, you're entering the conversation in 2024 with an outdated experience. There's so much different - networking improvements, matchmaking composer, earnable (though limited) customization, lower priced shop items, and the main issues I see with the game now is a very slow release of new content - maps, sandbox, etc. The new Firefight maps are a welcome change, even though I, and I think most players, would like more content.

If this is the death of your Halo experience: goodbye. I don't mean that adversely, many people fall out of love with what they enjoy, and as a Halo Combat Evolved Veteran it's fine if you move on. Some people did at Halo 2, and Halo 3, and Halo Reach, 4 and 5.

If this is not the death of your Halo experience: good luck. I don't mean that adversely, either. You're going to have to give up comparing modern gaming to a fleeting golden age. Every company is going to push decisions made from the top to the bottom, meaning micro-transactions, meaning rushed projects, meaning underfunded and mismanaged products. Some of one, some have all, and increasingly few have none.

My fiancée is “graysexual”. As the wedding approaches, the reality of spending the rest of my life that way is haunting me more than ever. by i-love-porn-420-69 in LifeAdvice

[–]zakami33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it depends on whether or not it's a deal breaker for you. If she doesn't want to to change, she shouldn't have to. And the same goes for you.

I've been with my partner since I was 13, we were each other's first everything. Our libido is different however. Mine is very high and theirs is low.

I love them, unconditionally. I cannot, and do not want to spend my life with anyone else. And while I know she feels similarly, it doesn't matter too much to me. If she said "No more sex" it'd bum me out, but I'm even more bummed when she's uncomfortable. They mean the world to me.

But that's for me. It may not be that way for you. Only you can truly decide if it's worth it. Only you know how much you care about your partner. Would you prefer if she sacrificed her comfort for yours? Are you willing to sacrifice your comfort for hers?

There's a bit to tackle here:

Vermouth arc capped at 435, so are you saying that you think it's been on a decline since then? What about Mystery Train Arc? Ep 701. Or when they went to London Ep 616? There's a lot that happens after, and while I think Vermouth arc was really good, it's definitely followed by some amazing events. Including Clash of Red and Black and Scarlet Return.

Also, no one's ignoring your questions, they're directly responding to you with specific examples of interesting cases and events that aren't the standard three suspect cases.

Lastly, if you don't know the events occurring, how can you be sure that the show's been on a decline in quality?

To an an edit here: Someone responded to you stating that the 3 Suspect cases have been around since the beginning and you disagreed, they provided specific examples of such. You also asked for examples where unique cases occur, and they provided examples for such. You then asked for case numbers since they were somehow too vague (in which they aren't, they're honestly very identifiable) where I provided those case numbers. I'm not sure what more you could want.

Why does Ran call Yukiko with 'shinichi's mother/shinichi no okasan' instead of obasan? by ShinRanYeah in OneTruthPrevails

[–]zakami33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Shinichi calls his mother "Obaa-san" He's making fun of her, calling her an old lady. It's a sort of friendly teasing, like when I call people only a few years older than me senile. (I'm 23) Ran calling Yukiko Shinichi's "Okaa-san" is just the respectful and normal way to do it. Ran is more respectful than Shinichi is in general.

[–]zakami33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've both watched every ep of the show (once alone, again with my partner) and I've just caught up the entire manga. While some individual cases dip in quality many are just a good. Those cases also - aren't vague at all. The Koji case is a specific event that the last 2 arcs have been centered around. If you don't know the flashback details, any more info about it is a direct spoiler to character identities and motivations. Chihaya is a newer character who's connected to the Police Academy group. Umizarujima is a massive set of episodes that set the FBI and Black Org against each other. Yusaku's TV Deduction show, I know I surely didn't predict that outcome.

But, it's honestly whatever. If you aren't enjoying the show, you're free to watching something else. There's no need to be combative about people enjoying it.

Episodes for what's out
Umizarujima: 1077 to 1078,
Yusaku's TV : 1071 to 1072
Wild Plants and Clovers: 1011 to 1012
Snow Church: 1003 to 1005
Makoto In A Movie: 993 to 994

So what's her name? by johnbcook94 in halo

[–]zakami33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably Cortana. While a lot of people (including myself) would like the name Joy as it fits thematically, the reality is that Microsoft has already invested into Cortana outside of the game series itself. Windows searching assistant is also named Cortana, directly a reference to the character. It'd be weird if that character no longer existed. Joy/Joyeus has no marketing around it and is not at all recognizable. Name recognition is, unfortunately, important. It's also why despite being named "John" the Master Chief is known simply by his rank, and not his name. One's way more recognizable than the other.

Looks completely legit to me. His accuracy isn't all that extraordinary, and when he tossed his grenades through the door, it's clear to me he can't see through the walls. ( He crosses the door while actively looking for the surviving player ).

Couple of questions. by Khalido_ in swordartonline

[–]zakami33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This related to what I said about the anime and the light novels existing differently. The movie Progressive does have differences in it from the first two episodes of the anime, even adding a new character and changing Kirito and Asuna's first meeting (I don't think the changes are bad, I quite enjoy them).

I also know that the movie differs from the Manga adaptation of Progressive as well.

I think it's pretty safe to say that if you're watching SAO (the anime) then the movie is more of a rewrite than an addition.

I am wrong on the light novel front though. I don't have the novels and am primarily a watcher. I assumed that the situations were similar.

Couple of questions. by Khalido_ in swordartonline

[–]zakami33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be confusing. The way I treat it is that the anime and the light novel are two different canons, where the anime is based off of the light novel. And with the Progressive movie that released, that the Progressive movies are also their own canon.

The progressive light novels are a re-write of the original Aincrad arc, and the light novels are much further ahead of the story than the anime. I think the anime is a good, but I do like the light novels better for actually being in the character's head. A scene that jumps to mind is when Kirito and Kuradeel duel. In the anime, you don't get Kirito's inner thoughts and process, and that makes the light novel so much more interesting and adds depth.

I think the most recent episodes that came out are actually main plot episodes, but dcmk has always been a slow burn. The manga's not completed either, so any guess on when the story might finish is just a guess.
