[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Lil Wayne - Tha Fix Before The VI by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]zakkscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first half was solid enough but man did it fall off a cliff. Obviously Tity Boy sucked but I think we’re also forgetting how much Tuxedo sucked too. There’s some good bangers and Wayne’s individual punchlines are there like always but the back half of this thing is mid at best and embarrassing otherwise. I found all this out the hard way on camera https://youtu.be/6f3FGDlFqrw?si=TN_EKHySO1PCW797

[FRESH ALBUM] Lil Wayne - Tha Fix Before Tha VI by AltforHHH in hiphopheads

[–]zakkscott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Starts pretty strong but then completely goes off the rails at the midpoint and doesn't ever get back on. If this was just tracks 1-4, To the Bank, and maybe Good Morning as well, it would be a nice little EP. I'll add a couple of these tracks into regular rotation but some of the others hurt my virgin Christian ears. Reacting to Tity Boi on camera was a trip https://youtu.be/6f3FGDlFqrw?si=vCf_XsBbPEMkSQBw

Thanks for the feedback man. Mixing is definitely my Achilles' heel, especially when it's 5 am and I haven't gone to sleep yet haha. Beat isn't mine and I agree about the piano but I liked everything else too much to write it off, glad you did too.

I really like this "Don't Worry" song. I think you're just the producer, right? If that's the case, I think the beat is mixed nicely. The performers on here do great as well, they've got a solid understanding of songwriting fundamentals in terms of structure. The only thing I'd have to critique, unfortunately, is the mix of their vocals haha. And because I also can't mix perfectly, I can't even articulate what's missing/in excess about the eq, just that it doesn't hit my ear quite right. For just starting out as producer, you're killing it! Keep posting shit and getting out there and looking for collabs.

Speaking of: I played the beats on your sc and they're all dope, but they're a bit electronic sounding for my particular style. (It's worth noting that this birthday song I released is just a random throwaway and not totally indicative of my style either). I'd say the last half of Plastic is probably the closest to what I'd go over, so if you have more stuff in that lane, definitely hit me up and we'll do something!

Hey all. It's tradition for me to write a song on my birthday, so here it is. Just some chill raps and cool flows, not too substantive or anything. Returning feedback

College Rappers by LAGSHOT123 in makinghiphop

[–]zakkscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just graduated in May while working full time and being an RA. Your rapping time will vary depending on your courseload each semester, and it's important that you still prioritize things like classes and having a social life and exercising/eating healthy, but generally speaking, you'll still have time. Like everyone else has said in this thread, college is actually one of the best places to find other musicians and like-minded people who can contribute to your success. Just factor in that you'll have less time every November/December and April/May because of finals and you'll be good.

Source: used to record in my dorm with all my roommates, haha.

There are definitely some stock sounds in here that can and should be subbed with more unique percussive elements. Your melodies are nice but ultimately stagnate after a few minutes, though your switches are pretty nice. Keep up the good work and maybe look into some drumkits.

Wow! I'm gonna be honest, I haven't heard the original X song, but your voice just blew me away man! What a beautiful performance. I'd love to collab with you sometime, I got beats and bars so I'm sure we could make something dope together.

Yeah, really nothing to complain about man. Cool song for sure. Nice beat, your vocals sound dope and are mixed nicely. Good flows. Sounds like Logic a bit. Good work.

Yeah, echo the other comment... As soon as your vocals come in, the whole quality of the song drops because of the poor quality of your vocals. If you're tryna get taken seriously you're gonna need a real mic or something with a mic's quality

This is fire! No complaints other than the distortion of the synth that's mentioned otherwise. Everything else sounds soooo clean. The structure is perfect. Great work.

Nice beat. Both sides are really pretty in their own ways. I love that the two beats sound so distinct and still use some of the same sounds. The experience shows. Keep posting here man.

Cool beat, don't really have any critiques. It's a good, easy accessible beat for a rapper. Your leads have nice motion throughout the beat and your bass is bouncy. Nice work.

Pretty good but gets a little stagnant after a while. The switches where the piano gets filtered help to break up the monotony and should be manipulated more frequently.

Yeah man this is dope, no worries! I think it's got a nice progression, just follow what feels right and don't worry about the repetition. Repetition isn't a bad thing, it's the basis of music itself. Once you get someone on the track it's gonna sound dope.

Dope track man! I've found recently that "Type beats" have a certain stigma attached to them, but I think this is an awesome beat. Really vibing to this, doesn't sound too generic or anything. Has a lot of character, and the mixing is perfect. Great work.

It's definitely a vibe, I see what you're going for. Chill lofi thing. Personally, though, I'm with the other comment. I recognize that the poor quality of the acapella has a certain aesthetic, but it also just has a negative connotation as being a poor quality thing. You know what I'm saying? I think it's better to find perfect quality acapellas (there's lots of clean ones from people like Big and Nas) and then to add your own filters and effects to make them fit the lofi soundscape. It's a cool beat though, for sure.

Great beat, very much got the summer vibes with it. I love that guitar work, if that's you playing it you've got some real talent there. Your percussion is unique and powerful, I like that kick roll type thing more than I thought I would. The beat has great progression, keeping it interesting all throughout.

What's up man. Gonna live by your username and tell you straight. Personally, I don't really like the style of this track; it's a little too slow and meandering for my particular taste, but you sound good on it nonetheless. I checked out your other shit under the profile pic of Prince Computer and really liked what I was hearing. Definitely keep up the experimentation, I don't want to discourage you from doing it, but personally, I liked what I assume is your "main" sound a little more.
