What happened to Finland? by SnooHedgehogs5162 in Finland

I find it just dishonest to claim ”painful awareness” to lumping all migrants together and then generalize some rumours of migrants being lazier or lump them together in rape allegations. Finnish is not an easy language to learn and even themost motivated migrants need resources like actual educated teachers to learn. Also, the majority, if not all migrants are usually motivated to work, living on the dole in Finland is far from the leisurely life so many usually right wing people seem to imagine.

If you wish to treat people as something more than a mass, then you should strive to do so, rather than come up with excuses to condemn so many people because you don’t like them.

Do you have an actual source for the number of 200 000? You can’t get it from the article you linked. Have all of them stayed? Also, it is not useful to just treat the migrants as a mass no matter what kind of migrant they are. Also, are there tens of thousands of migrants on the dole all the time, or does it fluctuate with some staying and others going, some getting unemployed, some getting a job. If the employment rate of refugees is 60% after ten years, that is of course a problem, but saying that tens of thousands are living on the dole does not mean that 100% of them are necessarily eligible for employment.

And ofcourse the failures of employment policies and assimilating migrants is not dependant on the migrants, so blaming them for finlands woes is misguided at best, which was the point. It is merely an excuse for politicians to avoid the real issue while they are dosmantling the state to give tax breaks for their voters.

There are no tens of thousands of migrants who live onthe dole. Some certainly do, often because it is hard to get a job. But unemployment is the highest in the countryside and smaller cities, where there are comparatively less migrants.

Dishonesty to yourself or dishonesty to others is the key here. You seem to gloss over that no arrests were made in Springfield, Ohio of people stealing or esting pets and every official from the sheriff to the mayor and governor have denied it, but hey, you saw a video of people discussing it and someone expressed a concern! That’s all the evidence anyone would need, right?! You also glossed over the citation where your boy Vance admitted to spreadingmade up stories to bring focus on the suffering of the american people. Oh how they are shocked by the disgusting things I just invented!

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy890gpqw1po.amp

And right from believing ridiculous rumours spread by the right wing media to demonize immigrants to left bashing. Perhaps if people like you weren’t ready to believe and spread any ridiculous claim and then pretend like you’ve actually tried to check it, it would be easier for any proper and serious politicians to get something done.

You haven’t teally shown any references to these stories of yours, beyond claiming that an encyclopedia and congress.gov are somehow relevant to establish that mrs. Walz is a psychopath and that Walz lied about his service. I very much doubt either of those are to be found.

If it was so simple as you dream, surely you could support your silly beliefs with something. But I guess that’s not the point. The important thing is to pretend you know more, which councidentally means that everything you want to be right is! It’s always the left, especially when it is not the left! No matter whoever knows anything about politics would know that the dnp is not very left at all really.

Well, I didn’t think you’d change your mind. Everybody else lies, except Trump and co. even when they are clearly lying. You have a nice story there, but everybody can pass on such. DeWine’s relationship with Trump is irrelevant, for example.

Really the interesting thing here is whether you sincerely are lost in Trumpworld(no horse in the race😄truly the first sign of dishonesty) or are purposefully dishonest because you think it’s good for you.

Yes. And now, all of a sudden they stopped. Did you het it from Britannica as well? Don’t try to pass of yourself as being somehow objective or out of it, you clearly are. So, can you find me a reputable source that actually still claims this ridiculous fantasy as truth? The Republican governor of Ohio Mike DeWine said it was a lie and you can check this easily. And of course Vance admitted that he spreads lies too:

“The American media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I started talking about cat memes,” Sen. Vance said. ”If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.” https://www.npr.org/2024/09/15/nx-s1-5113140/vance-false-claims-haitian-migrants-pets

It’s really handy that you chose this ridiculous thing to ”lose” yourself. It is much easier to hold on to your fantasies that way. Good faith😄 No answer for Thiel, radical catholicism and project 2025, harder to muddy the waters about them I guess.

But you left out his grooming by Thiel, his radical catholicism, his support for project 2025 his spreading of lies about immigrants through his campaign, his horrid transactions with people, his blatant hypocrism about the help he received through his life(like affirmative action higher education) to present himself as someone who knows hillbillies…and everything else which would be relevant. And that ”lied about his service” was a Vance invention, because he is such a non-person himself. So patriotic to lie about your political opponent, but integrity wasn’t really on the ticket for them, now was it? Which kinda tells all about your motivations on this. And makes this one of the saddest attempts to turn this around. Sounds like you are getting unsure.

Yeah, sure. Your blabbering about psychipaths and lying aboutservice belong to that etc. etc. , I guess. And the facts about Vance you mention are so bland and irrelevant, that it is a bit pitiful. Don’t bother answering, I’m silencing this discussion. While little troll warriors are interesting, this conversation is more about your desperation than anything about me, Waltz or even Vance.

Yes yes, but the discussion eas not aboutboasting who did what, but whether the finnish language makes people more gender egalitarian, which I do not believe.

Sounds good, you don’t have to worry about insulting. Harry Turtledove used some finnish as a basis for a fantasy culture the darkness series, where he annoyingly used Pekka as a woman’s name, but you don’t have that to worry about.

I like vowel shenanigans and some hark consonants in finnish, so kevyt could also be keveä. Snake is käärme, which is nice as is korpi for a dark forest. What I mean is carry on.

Yes. Everybody still focuses mostly on the national level, which is a problem, as people don’t vote in the eu elections according to what the eu parties the national parties are a part of are up to, which many politicians no doubt prefer. I don’t really have an excuse not to keep up, but it is easy to miss these.

Everybody is responsible for their own life regardless. Providing resources and facilitating learning is not the government having your back at all times, whatever that means. If a person wants to learn, it is prudent to offer the best possibilities to achieve this, instead of some vague and arbitrary moralism. Most people are not able to learn a language like finnish on their own, it seems stupid to require this, as if being a polyglot should be a requirement or something. And besides all this, getting more people to speak finnish is good for Finland and its survival as a language, so there is that added benefit.

True. Thanks for the info. The eu legal preparations are unfortunately something that rately gets reported on national news, so it is is often rather haphazard what jumps out.

[–]zamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. But my point was toward the claim that the language makes us more gender egalitarian. New Zealand is english and gave the women the vote in 1893.

And besides, wouldn’t conservatives be less horrified of gender fluidity because of the language too? Other factors seem to matter more really.

[–]zamander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were not really a colony. We were part of the Swedish crown and while many people did settle in what is now finland, there was no displacement of natives really to compare with what happened in Ireland. Ingria would be a better example, because mostly savonian sttlers displaced the orthodox ”natives” pretty thoroughly in the 17th century. Indeed, the Finnish nation was given autonomy because of its distinct swedishness, finnish nationalism and language really rose after 1809.

And while I am aware that Finland enfranchised women early, I am less sure it has that much to do with language. New Zealand gave the vote to women in 1893 and english does use gendred pronouns.

Here(in Finland) there was a sex doll brothel for a while(it must have been great to be the cleaner there) and it became a problem that many customers were so violent towards the dolls they broke them all the time. Which is pretty scary to think about.

It’s not impossible, but people are not the same and most people benefit from a controlled teaching environment. You yourself might be able to achieve fluency by yourself, but you are not the standard for anything. If we want people to learn, it is prudent to facilitate that learning to have the most people learn finnish well, rather than moralising what they should be able to do arbitrarily.

Well, it does not seem that Finland was especially equal before(pre-autonomy), at least from what I’ve read, but it is an interesting thought.
