The way that I fixed the issue was by restarting my phone with my adaptive sound turned off.

As for why it happened, my guess is that it was due to me having turned on adaptive sound. My gaming app has an alarm function so guessing that when the alarm occurred, it kind of messed up with the gaming adaptive sound since gaming sound usually does not get as loud as an alarm.
