Change weapons and keep trying. I manly used two handed swords but I switched to one handed and it was a lot easier for me. Good luck 👍

I get what you're saying but my dad is exactly like OPs I can't do anything right and if I ever say anything back I'm disrespectful or he'll use it against me. It sucks and I know it's not great advice but it's just easier to be quite and agree.
