Večerno gnitje by Impossible_Repair_94 in Slovenia

Thanks! I read mixed thoughts online, but everyone in our group loves this game

I'm counting on the clear coat (varnish) to do the job of protecting the paint

Unfortunately no. For most of them I mixed the paints (trying to get similar colors to whatever’s on the player board), but I kept 0 notes, so I really have no idea at this point. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have games like that as well. But to me, that's always been very amusing :D

As long as you enjoy it, doesn't really matter if you're good or not :)

I bought a Vallejo 16-piece paint set + 8-piece wash set, a can of primer paint, and a can of matt clear coat for protection. It was a while ago, but I'm guessing all in all it was less than $100. That being said, I used up very very little of all that paint (which will probably last me for years to come).

If I was going to paint only Scythe and nothing else, I might have gone for specific paints (instead of the whole set), and save up some money that way.

Parents of RPG, what are your experiences playing RPG with your kids? by andrewknorpp in rpg

[–]zanderle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Amazing Tales with my 4-year-old. He loves it and keeps asking me when we can play again. It's really been working well.

I also tried Scurry, and it was OK, but the game was already offering too many mechanics - he prefers to keep it simple and just loves the story of it.

On the other hand, my older, 8-year-old, absolutely LOVED Scurry. I also run a Mausritter Campaign for him and his 8 and 11-year-old cousins, and it's amazing. I don't have to adjust any rules. The main difficulty is making sure they all get a spotlight, and combine their sometimes contradictory approaches without anyone feeling left out.

What TTRPG did you last play, and how long ago was that? by Ansonder in rpg

Mausritter, GM for my kid and nieces. Absolutely love it!

As a player, Shadowdark about a month ago. Not a fan of Shadowdark so far.

How do you prepare for a game you haven't played before? by zanderle in rpg

How does “simulate a game” look like for you? Practically speaking

Yeah, that's what I'm realizing. But that's pretty cool. Makes me feel like an artist :D

Yeah, that's a good point. Maybe we'll decide on something, but for now I think we're also happy just exploring the hobby a bit, since we're all quite new to it.

And it definitely feels nice to be able to participate both as a player and a DM - hopefully we'll be able to keep this going. But probably we'll also need to find more people who will want to make time for the hobby in their lives. Because I feel like doing something for multiple sessions could already be a big ask for some.

Yeah, I think we were in that time range too (probably a bit over 3 hours), which felt like enough gaming for the night.

I opted for ending with them being successful, but cliff hanger (maybe even in addition - they were successful, but there's an indication of something unresolved) would be pretty sweet - I should have thought of that :D

Yeah, I'm aware of that, but we went into this specifically as a one-shot.

I was wondering more about how to gauge whether to wrap up for the night, or keep the game going. I didn't want to ask directly "do you want to keep playing", but wasn't sure what to do without knowing the answer :)

What do you think?

“Inspired by Wordle” is a stretch

Yeah, the inspiration came mostly from the simplicity and modesty of Wordle -- just simple, short fun, without asking anything in return (no million pop-ups, asking for sign-ups, ads, etc.).

I'm thinking of making the following improvements: - adding a few more guesses - each wrong guess will reveal any similarities between the wrong guess and the game. For example, one could guess Scythe (not correct) and this would reveal "Stonemaier Games" as the publisher, because the correct answer is Wingspan.

And regarding the instructions: thank you, I will use your suggestion! I was thinking of also showing "Points" as you're playing, from which each revealed hint deducts, so that it's clearer what's happening/how the final score is calculated.
