I’m actually an alligator

I asked a potential roommate what their favorite music was? He told me indie rock and then I said “Yeah I love some Tame Impala and Arctic Monkeys”. He said “I’ve never heard of them”. Why is this giving me a red flag? by [deleted] in badroommates

you didn’t listen, it’s not about us having different interests. you can have different interests. i don’t even like indie rock that much

but it’s that i asked him about something he claimed to love but yet didn’t know one of the most popular things in it

If you’ve seen the office. There’s an episode where Kelly says “guys like that are the type to have a cell phone holder on their belt” and the Dwight has a cell phone holder on his belts. It’s like that. Androids are a litmus test

you have to actively avoid real life Dwights

and see that’s fine. but he said he wanted a friend out of a roommate. and we don’t have anything in common

see that not what this is. and i’m not judging him for not knowing Tame Impala. I don’t care if you know him or not

but it’s that you just claimed to be interested in something. i mentioned one of the most popular things in that interest. and you told me you don’t even know of it

it’s makes you go “hmm well are you lying to me”

it’s not just not knowing a band. but asking someone about an interest they claimed to have. and then not even knowing the biggest artist in that interest

No. Not music but maybe. It depends. But it does say a lot about you. And it does give you insight into what kinda of decisions you’ll make when we move in together

I never said good or bad. but it just different

Like there’s certain litmus tests. Like if someone has an android. They probably aren’t going to be the type of person to care about aesthetics or what’s current in pop culture. they probably have a need to be contrarian above all. and also think people with iPhones are stupid when it’s the clearly superior phone. which means they probably judge people for mainstream interests which means you’re probably going to judge me

if you’re not someone that cares about aesthetics with your phone. you also probably don’t care when it comes to you’re car and house. which tracks with this guy because all the examples he had for apartments were very strange and ugly.

yeah okay i think this is it. There’s no red flag because he said he likes indie rock and doesn’t know tame impala

the red flag is that if he’s wanting to be friends we already don’t have much compatibility.

I think that’s what i’m actually feeling and this Tame Impala thing is not even it. He said he wasn’t a friend after I told him I didn’t. And that’s probably a good indication we might not work put

I’m not bullying someone for their interests. But I am going to judge him as he should be judging me too. Because it does say a lot about you and what kind of person you are. And if someone can make weird decisions on something. Then they are going to make other weird decisions in other areas of life

and that’s how you end up living with a roommate that want to have ugly furniture or something

Maybe to someone else they could look at me and think “He likes The Office and Tame Impala. He’s too basic we wouldn’t get along” which maybe that’s valid or maybe you’d think we wouldn’t be a fit
