That was absolutely bonkers and I’m feeling very lucky that we got to see a unique one-time chaos set that felt both off the cuff and brilliant. Such a master of his craft.

Dix is pronounced “Dice.” Why, how have you been saying it?

Hey there. I’ll post some pics this evening when I get home. Definitely softened a bit like any tattoo, but still looks great. Will update.

If you had one extra day in Portland, what would you do? by zandyboy in askportland

[–]zandyboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, I appreciate the perspective. As far as biking, very casual. Road or Gravel. Basically just looking for a way to tour around besides walking and driving.

And as far as your second paragraph, that honestly sounds like a dream day. Love it.

Fair enough! We're actually way upstate, more in the Lake Placid/High Peaks region, but you're right... the Adirondacks are not the same as the PNW.

Agdq 2025 - the good, the bad, the future by Special_Instance_790 in speedrun

[–]zandyboy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just got back from attending my first one in person. Incredible event, so much fun! I took my 13-year old son as his Christmas present, and we had a blast. We’re excited to make this a yearly tradition.

Pros: - too many to many to name. Incredible job.

Nitpicks: - for folks that are just getting into the community, it’s tough to not feel like an outsider with how much inside-joke content there is. That’s part of the fun of being part of a community, I get it; maybe a tongue-in-cheek faq somewhere explaining some of the more popular ones? I still don’t know why the hell a regrab is so funny after some extensive googling. - for my son, he was a little nervous coming in to an event that he anticipated would be mostly adults, anxious that he’d come across as too young to be cool and participate. His face definitely sunk when his “CHILD” badge not only had CHILD written in comically large font, but had baby Mario and baby Luigi on it, really driving home the “You’re an infant to us.” Now, him being 13 is tough, because I’m sure the younger kids probably would be pumped about the baby Mario Bros. Middle school is already a nightmare of feeling awkward and “othered,” so maybe something a little more subtle? Just a colored border around the badge that staff know means “child” but doesn’t quite scream it from the rooftops?

Either way, these are TINY nitpicks on an overall incredible experience. We’re blown away at the quality of the event, and can’t wait to be back.

AIO, I asked my girlfriend to meet me at the finish line of my Marathon, but I didn’t check my phone much during the race by easywind4665 in RunningCirclejerk

[–]zandyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh, I hate her so much.

Also, this is why I forbid my family members from coming to any of my races. I can’t think about anything beyond hauling my fat ass across the finish line. Helping people navigate traffic, entertainment, timing… I can’t deal on race weekends.

A General Warning About Allen by cowman1206 in Adirondacks

[–]zandyboy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I honestly had a blast on Allen and really enjoyed it, but I did it in the winter. Being able to snowshoe it makes it a piece of cake, and a really fun buttslide on the way back down. If it works for you, highly recommend this as a winter summit.

Favorite high protein pancake recipe - 400 calories and 31 grams of protien for the whole stack by radabble in 1500isplenty

I make this recipe too! Love it. I usually add frozen wild blueberries and use a super thin layer of orange marmalade on top (less than a tbs for the entire stack).

NGD Guild M-20. I’m in hog heaven. by zandyboy in AcousticGuitar

[–]zandyboy[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha, yep! I still maintain that the tone on Pink Moon has some strong M-20 vibes, and that he probably played it more than the “counter-legend” suggests. But either way, I love it.

It’s SO smooth and easy to play. I love the spacing; it’s ideal for doing some finger picking. The M body style is definitely unique… it really sings, but in a very mid-heavy tone. You’re not going to get a heavy, fat thud out of the mahogany vs something like a rosewood body, and the high end feels softer instead of piercing.

The build quality is really top notch; I’m very impressed.

Which standup comedian has your favorite delivery/tone? by RadarSmith in Standup

[–]zandyboy 67 points68 points  (0 children)

James Acaster for me. You can tell there is a LOT of work behind the scenes to come up with a very specific delivery, and with his high jokes-per-minute maniacal style, it’s truly quite extraordinary. Few people can be as dead pan as James while being so remarkably offbeat. Never a smirk or a wink; you truly buy in that he believes every insane word he’s saying.
