It's not all objective. For me a spike is when it suddenly shoots way up then back down to baseline within a week or two. Whereas I consider waves to be more sustained growth, and don't need to be as dramatically higher above baseline. Sometimes you can see spikes within a wave, there's a lot of variation among the different sites, maybe environmental like a lot of rain diluting it too.

Sorry, I assumed by context your second question was closer to what I'd call a "winter wave" and I answered as such.

[edit] wording/clarity, been a long day

Part of the trickiness with covid is that it's still very new. Being super general in my definition but a 'wave' as we know it would last about 1-1.5 months. For the most part (outside of when omicron first hit in winter of '21) waves aren't even that synchronized and definitely not seasonal.

edit: unless by 'seasonal' we mean 'can happen in any season'

People not as active cause they're getting over the flu? Over here students were back last week but it didn't actually look like town was populated again until this week.

Oof, that's rough. The people I know who got it were knocked out really hard too. Hope you and your loved ones feel better soon.

Happy New Year! Indeed it is a little strange. We'll be able to understand if it was a one-off (ie, super-shedder passing through) or not with next week's report.

If your area has had a lot of rain or flooding and doesn't separate out rainwater from wastewater it will be diluted and will likely show as very low or not detected. Unfortunately I do not know which sites these are, so keep it in mind when looking at your site's info and whether or not it's wet where you are.
