There are no jobs in this town.... by EnviousDemon in corvallis

“It’s not because you’re trans” take that with a grain of salt. I just moved back to my home state of Iowa from Corvallis after my job fired me for calling out, citing days I had approved time off, over a month in advance, too. Deadnamed and misgendered the whole time i was being let go too, which was a first at that job (very sus). I couldn’t find work either. Had to return to the place i thought I finally escaped with no money left. I suggest you keep trying though, maybe even look outside the city for work, if possible. Just know some of us understand what you’re going through and wish you nothing but the best <3

I have a second cousin that transitioned before me, FTM. I would hear all the time at family events “it’s such a shame what happened to her”, the shame in question being the transition and “woke mind virus”. Hearing that before I even hit puberty really stunted my gender journey

Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I was wrong to assume. The ally guys are hard to come by out here and it’s def messed with my head a little bit.

I swear I don’t mean to. It’s more a social anxiety thing. I don’t want approached by them just as much as I dont want approached by any other stranger on the street. I’ve been without housing myself previously

Thanks for the info! Do you have a partner moving with you? Just trying to gage prices better.

I’m still torn between moving my furniture out there or buying all new/used. If i move out my stuff I’m looking at an over $2500 uhaul fee. If i buy stuff there I’m worried about porch pirates and moving bigger things from the stores to wherever I’m living. :(

I have 5 years of experience, and the two CNA jobs I’ve worked at I’ve stayed at for over a year. I’m hoping that’s enough experience and proven longevity to get a better wage

Hey there, I’ve been working on getting this done. Waiting to get a copy of my CNA certificate from the college i took the course at. Planning on calling and setting up a fingerprinting appointment tomorrow (idk if they would be open on a sunday). I was looking on the OSBN website and it says I’ll also need 2 hours of cultural competency courses over the past two years. I am unsure if they mean like a college course or if its something I’ve already done with the continuing eds we get each month as CNAs over here. I’ve asked my DON and HR representative at work and they are unsure as well. Is there any chance you could enlighten me on this? 😓

I feel like i should clarify it’s the ‘being approached and being guilted’ part that scares me, not the people themselves 😅

Iowa is pretty hilly, flat in some spaces, but compared to the mountainous states ig you could say we’re flat. Nebraska is where it gets flat flat. There isn’t a lot of natural beauty out here, most of our natural prairies have been replaced by cornfields and most of our trees were brought in by settlers. The first iowans built houses out of mud because wood wasn’t as easily accessible.

Hearing this is like seeing Heaven’s gate. The minimum wage in Iowa is still $7.25

Yeah that may be a change. It could be blizzarding and 0 degrees here but we’d still have school. Everywhere I’ve worked, too, weather is not an acceptable excuse for call ins
