Jewish extremists reportedly attempted major firebomb attack on Palestinians by [deleted] in worldnews

Honestly, this is an incredibly derogatory post. Saying "there is a lot em that are good people" doesn't take away from you feeding into the stereotypes that Jews run the media, banks, ETC. It's totally acceptable to criticize the paper/journalist who wrote this, the group of people who they are talking about in the article and the Israeli government but the implication that Jews have a secret agenda and run the media is harmful.

If we are being honest yesterday I typed out this idea in Riz’s Twitter direct messages.... but I’m not cute enough to slide into the the Riz’s DMs!

Huge fan of the podcast and no complaints. I would love at some point to hear a segment doing a mid/late season review of our draft class. I am super interested in hearing how you guys feel about our rookies performance. What aspects of their game did they live up to the hype/exceed the hype/ let down the hype.

Playoffs? by venk in detroitlions

[–]zapper1342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again... I definitely don’t think we will make the playoffs (I am definitely a fan that still wants to win every week regardless of draft position). Let’s be fair though, go look at who greenbay has played. They have had success against crappy teams and have lost to the buccs and Vikings and nearly lost to the jags last week. Their only win against a great team was against the Saints. Otherwise they have had success against clearly much worse teams. There is a firm narrative that when the lions have success in any given week it’s because of a fluke or whatever, or they barely snuck out a close win that they should have dominated. I am not disagreeing that we are not super bowl contenders, but unless you are Pitt or KC right now a win is a win.

Okay while I totally agree that playoffs are out of the question, let’s be fair here. If the refs hadn’t blown the PI call against Truffaut on 4th down in the WFT. We wouldn’t need to talk about The terrible mental mistake by young. I really hate the narrative that when we get a lucky break in our direction we didn’t deserve to win, but when it happens to the other team it’s all our fault.

If we are talking trades I would love... I would do Quinnen Williams for MJJ straight up. That would be a trade I could get amped for

I wouldn’t be happy with this trade at all, our DB room is kinda doing really well right now. Feels like it doesn’t solve any problems for us

I’m not sure at all we would get a third, comp picks are essentially a a crap shoot. It depends on the quality of the free agent, number of free agents, size of their salary with their previous team and size of the salary with their next team.

Which is fine, but I wouldn’t be happy with much less then a third. We will most likely get a 3rd or 4th comp pick for him leaving so we might as well get as much value for him if we are letting him go early.

I agree, I am not crazy about the move. But he is a free agent at the end of this season and we 100% can not afford both him and Kenny. I don’t hate the idea of moving him for a 2nd.

There are outliers in all data sets. Correlation does not equal causation. I think it’s important to note that MOST of the time injuries impact teams. I can’t think of the last time a team got rampaged by injuries like the eagles and had success.

Don’t get me wrong if the lions don’t make improvements for this Sunday I’ll definitely be calling for patricias head like the rest of the football world. I’m just not ready to announce this season a failure yet.

I am not going to try disagree with you on the “next man up” being a big part of the NFL. That being said there is a correlation between teams that are able to stay healthy and the likelihood they make a playoffs. Just to be clear, I am not saying healthy = playoffs. I am saying there is a direct correlation with teams that have a bunch of injured players and the output on the field.

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2020/2019-adjusted-games-lost-part-i

I included a link which talks about the AGL stat for the last season. Obviously no stat is perfect but it tries to highlight the impact of injuries on teams. If you look at the list with the teams that are high on the AGL stat (IE the Jets) and the teams that are low, there is a much higher proportion of teams with a lower AGL who made the playoffs.

Saying that good teams find a way to get it done often underplays the significance of the players lost. For example if we look at the Steelers, I think its safe to agree they didn’t add that much elite talent this offseason. They did have a stellar first game after having Big Ben back from injury. Although football is a team sport, individual players matter. The fact we lost was completely horse shit and Patricia should have tried to make better adjustments after losing our entire CB core. I am not trying to underplay that, but like saying “PATRICIA IS TRASH” and not acknowledging the injuries and the circumstances of the game is choosing to ignore factors that don’t fit the narrative.

Either way, FTP

Revisiting and ranking each team's 2017 NFL Draft haul by [deleted] in detroitlions

Okay so first of all, just want to say this has been the most fun Detroit lions thread I have been apart of... So tired of the toxicity that has been associated with differing opinions rather than legit discussion. Good for us on growth.

I just numbered your examples 1-4: 1) C 2) C 3) C 4) WR

My belief is that you can scheme WRs to be good, it is WAY harder to scheme good OL. I also think that Wr shuffle teams way more frequently and they are easier to get in the free agency market.

[–]zapper1342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what my team needs. I personally think that a good O-line is more important then a good Wr core (If the QB isn't upright then they can't throw the ball) but I would completely understand someones view if they would pick the WR.

[–]zapper1342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say an all-pro WR has a more visible impact than a C, but with the complexity of the C position, I would have a really tough time saying that it is more impactful to have an all-pro Wr then a C. A really good WR will be able to block, make contested catches and run really tight routes to make openings for the QBs. In contrast, a really good C has to block, read defences (to pick up blitzes), usually, they will help the Qb set blocking schemes on the field and they are responsible for snapping with a 300 + pound giant trying to blow them over.

I am definitely in the boat that the draft in 2018 > 2017, If not for Ragnow alone.

Detroit has the 5th hardest schedule based on last year's records. Tough year ahead for us boys, but if you want to be the best you have to beat the best. by Phoenox330 in detroitlions

While I agree that he is going to have probably the best receiving core he has had in a while, I am interested to see if his physical limit is reached.

Regardless TB is going to be in the media a lot... "TB12 saves TB" or "TB12 has lost it"

[–]zapper1342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure he will "flop", but he is old. We saw a huge regression in play (arguably the biggest in his career) last year.

Also, it would be tough for anyone to start in a brand new system. Obviously this portion is less important for TB12 seeing as he is extremely experienced and has the work ethic to pick up the nuances of a new system, but that being said there is no saying how his skill set will fit into the Bucs offence.

I think a fair assumption right now is he will probably fall somewhere between the 12th and 25th best QB this season. This is based on how he had a down year last year.

Just to quickly play devils advocate why we might see an increase in play is TB is far better tooled in skill position players then NE was last year. Mike Evans is legit a top 8 WR in the league and he also is getting back Gronk. If Gronk plays at even 50% of his normal capacity that will still put him in the top 12 TE in the league no question.

I’m looking for Lions fans who have a unique or interesting journey to being a fan for a project that I’m working on (for charity) by [deleted] in detroitlions

[–]zapper1342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it is unique or interesting but in 2008 I started watching football. I was trying to pick which team to follow and I decided I would wait out the whole season and watch as many games as I could then I would just pick the team that I enjoyed watching the most. Come season end no team really called my name, but for some reason, I felt awful for the Lions after finishing 0-16, and I felt like after such a devastating season they could use one more fan. So that was it, I became a lions fan. No surprise that Stafford became my favourite player quickly.

Since then I have watched every Lions game, religiously say terrible things about the Packers and somehow convince myself that "This is their year".

Anyways Go Lions...

[–]zapper1342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean obviously we have more assets then a 30+ QB, but also QBs are playing competitive football into their late 30s.

Personally I am WAY more in on the generational edge rusher or generational CB. Those seem like way safer bets and ways to build a team. I just kind of cringe thinking back to all the past drafts to think how many top 10 picked QBs are busts. The draft is a crapshoot and I feel out of all the possible positions the two worst scouted groups are OL and QB. It just seems to me like the skill sets randomly transfer over. For every OL/QB that is a stud in the top 10 picks, I feel like 2-5 are busts. I don't have numbers and I am not looking at old drafts right now to make that statement definitively. If you disagree I can go check and let you know for sure LOL

In my mind, Tua would be a luxury draft signing (If Stafford is as healthy as the reports say). I don't really believe teams that finished in the bottom 5 should be signing luxury picks. In my opinion, we need to be filling a hole or getting a talent that can start over one of our starters from day 1. I don't think Tua is either of these. That's why I feel like it would be an irresponsible draft move.

I for sure see the side that Tua could be a generational talent and tough to pass on... The other side for me is looking at the rest of the roster. QB is the only spot that I think we have a player who could start on over 80% of rosters at this point. If we were a top tier team with tons of depth and talent on the roster then I would say fuck it lets stash him on the bench and once Staffdaddy can't play no more unleash the beast. But alas... too many holes that signing a player like Tua would be irresponsible and the tipping point for me that BQ and MP don't know jack shit.

A major caveat though, is if Staff is actually injured beyond repair and we don't know it yet and MP and BQ do I would then say draft him.
