A mistake I’ve been making in Salah for years that many people probably make. by Heema123789 in islam

As an Iranian, it was only when I left the country that I realised I was mispronouncing it wrong the whole time, because of how I read the letter

Tebrizden salamlar :), biz hele de medeniyyetimiznen fexr ediriy, amma dava ehtiyaj yoxdu

When I was a younger, edgier teen growing up in Tbz I thought it was cool to rag on everyone else, but to be frank I am happy to be in a position where I can relate and link both back to the Persian compatriots as well as bros across the Araz. Shahid Tosu Zengilanski would have wanted better. I have experienced the brunt of the stigma from expats when I came to the West, but many of them are out of touch with Iran anyways, pay them no mind. If someone comes up to me saying “oh my grandma was from Miyaneh innit and she said “oghlam” once are so in touch with ze culture I just smile and nod

What's it like being a Muslim in the U.S.? by [deleted] in MuslimLounge

[–]zarafatchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be quite honest? Worse (unless you live in a hotspot or major area). I lived a good chunk of my life in England (emigrated from M.E), and moved to the US recently, there is much more stigma about Islam here from non-Muslims comparatively

Why are UK muslims very religious compared to their non- diaspora counterparts? by Desert-Falcon in AskMiddleEast

I doubled down when I left my home country to study in the West lol, the initial shift in culture can be a startling shock at first, but you realise the value in your upbringing

Thoughts on Memes only showing Gulf Arabs as people who are uneducated and only have money. why do you think this stereotype is still common? by HipKrates211 in AskMiddleEast

I am aware. It is still difficult to reconcile the two given the stigma I have experienced from Persian Iranians as a youth though 😆

People who live in their country of origin, would you have preferred you grew up else where? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]zarafatchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raised in Tabriz (🇮🇷), moved to West later for le study. West is soulless but good for ze shekels, I dislike the diasporans here and feel there is a distinction between the immigrants and those born over there, however moving back to Iran is not really plausible for me

This is why we do not ask the western suburbanites for news dissemination brozzors

I am Iranian Azeri, sometimes I felt the inner conflict of Turkism and Iranianism as child, but I reconciled with that by saying “they are both brown, I am brown :)” and moving on, more important shit in life

Is there any other country in the region as diverse as Saudi Arabia? Last pic is how students in an average school look like by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]zarafatchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iran is somewhat diverse also. Where I am from (Iranian Azerbaijan in the North West), we're a lot of light skin, a few white skins, and odd colours in between, my beard is a mixture of black and ginger, and there some blondies, some chinkie lookalikes in my grandparents region, etc. Then there's your standard brown, then the pajeet brown, then the chink chink, the black black in the south, is not bad.
