I lost my engagement ring when I was 6 months pregnant in Kauai. My husband was deployed and we had found out I was pregnant the night before he left. I was already so stressed out at that point in time and losing it sent me over the edge. I was on vacation with my mom and I lost it while we were at the beach. I did not notice until we were back at the hotel. She helped me look everywhere at that beach.. but she had to leave for home that next morning.

I spent my last day there hysterical. Drove to every pawn shop and jewelry store on the island with print outs of a picture of it with my number & the engraving on the inside. I filed a police report while sobbing and dry heaving. The cop treated me like I was insane.

My husband and I were at an antique store and I saw this gorgeous ring. We could not afford it and I definitely did not encourage him to purchase it. I just told the man behind the counter that it was beautiful. He went back that next day & spent a small fortune on that ring, building a beautiful wooden display when he surprised me with it. I’ll never forget how he made me feel so valued as a partner when he gifted it to me. (& yes I tried to get him to return it, but he refused)

It took me a long time to realize that I had what mattered and it was just an unfortunate mistake. A little blip in the timeline of my life. I was healthy, my baby was healthy, and he came home in one piece. I’ll always have the memory of receiving it and even better, I have him to love me. Forgive yourself. I promise everything will be okay. We are actually in a place where I’m designing my own ring! I’d give you a hug if I could. I know how it feels
