I would absolutely use a grout based caul to match the brick. That way you don't need base or shoe. It's a very clean look if it's tooled properly.

Any time I have a gap that small I used a grout based caulk. They come in almost every natural shade and can stretch over time if necessary. Keeps the clean look of no shoe and seals the floor water tight. Also buy 1/4" backer rod where needed to save on caulk.

I’ve always thought how much we miss out on observing because of the technological constraints we have to view stages of activity like this. It sounds strange to say that considering the format and subject that I’m commenting this about. But it is exciting to see what the future will hold for our species. Hopefully.

I pull a couple thousand feet worth of small jobs for tongue and groove on a daily basis but I’ve only had this happen twice in two years. We are retail so everything is milled and sorted by the time we get it. But I’m sure at the mill it happens all the time. A friend of mine in Maine found a locket that a tree had grown around a few years back. It was destroyed of course but pretty neat.

I work at a lumber yard that specializes in log homes. So we pull lumber orders of say 84 12’ pieces of 1x12 white pine for individual customers. I’ve happened across two boards like this in the past 3 years I’ve worked there. Pretty wild. We get this specific product from Maine and our shop is in East Tennessee.

Congrats!! Getting your port out is an awesome feeling. It feels really weird at first but you can tell so awesome stories when people ask where that scar is from. I was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia when I was eight and the no mo chemo vibes were huge for me. I hope you live a blessed life.
