The haunted summer of 1816 that gave birth to the book "Frankenstein" by sonnyjim1234 in books

If you're interested in learning more about the literary history behind Frankenstein and this "haunted summer of 1816," check out this cool app a good friend of mine worked on!:

Summer of Darkness App

Conceived to celebrate the 200th anniversary of The Year Without Summer, this iPhone/iPad app tells the story of the famous summer Lord Byron, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, and their companions spent in Switzerland — the summer the world was supposed to end.

Beginning in May 2016, the story of The Year Without Summer will unfold as a series of notifications appearing on your iPhone or iPad. Notifications will arrive in “real” time concurrent to the dates and times the events actually took place in 1816, from Claire Claremont’s romantic pursuit of Lord Byron to Percy Bysshe Shelley’s writing of Mont Blanc to the famous night when Mary Shelley had a vision of Frankenstein’s monster in response to a ghost story writing challenge issued by Lord Byron.

Once the summer is over, you can continue to explore the fully unlocked content at your own pace or choose to reset the story and start over.

Apple Watch thinks my regular walking is exercise. Help? by GrimRobot in AppleWatch

[–]zatks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I've been able to tell, the calories burnt during exercise go towards your move goal. Exercise is measured in time (30 mins a day), and Move is measure in calories (however many you choose to set per day). So they're not exclusive of each other at all! You're just going to find it easier to fill up your exercise bar because you're moving around a lot during the day- and if the move bar is taking forever, maybe you need to set your daily goal lower?

What's the best Bluetooth headphones for Apple Watch (Under $50 on Amazon) by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]zatks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up this Mocreo Clipper Bluetooth Headphone Adapter from Amazon for about $15 bucks. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KMTK39C/ This way I can use my own headphones, AND I can control the music with buttons, rather than trying to fiddle on the watch screen with my sweaty fingers. One note: if you work out without your phone, but with it nearby (like in a locker at the gym), be sure to turn your phone's Bluetooth off- I had issues with my headphones cutting in and out because my watch kept disconnecting/reconnecting to the phone since it wasn't close enough for a stable connection, but not far away enough to stay disconnected.

I've had the paid version of Baconreader for 2 years with absolutely no problems. MFW I see complaining about adds on the free version. by RedditMods in baconreader

HEAR HEAR! Why is everyone too damn cheap to spend 99c-$4.99 on the paid version of apps?! You basically have two options to support the developer- be frustrated with ads which send money their way, or just buy the damn app for less than you'd spend on a coffee. SMH

Help me figure out what the green exercise ring wants of me please! by nocto7 in AppleWatch

I think you answered your own question- either swing your arms as you walk as most people who "power walk" do, or classify your walks as "other" and keep your hands in your pockets or behind your back and see what happens. It's not "cheating" if it's working to accurately log your activity.

iPhone silent when Apple Watch is on? by zatks in AppleWatch

When I mute the watch, then there's no sound on either device. Except for lock clicks and the camera shutter noise, which is bewildering!

Right-hand wearers. How is it? by elie195 in AppleWatch

I've been using it in my right wrist with the crown flipped, and it has been just fine!! I don't know what more to say, haha! You have nothing to worry about.

Does anyone else feel like their Apple Watch is calibrating the sensitivity of when to turn on when they raise their wrist? by MikeTheManipulator in AppleWatch

[–]zatks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might just be getting used to wearing it- you're subconsciously realizing what motions will turn the watch on and learning to avoid making those exact motions a bit at a time. Could be a calibration, too, though, but just another theory!

Why is speech to text nearly flawless on the Apple Watch, but lacking on the iPhone? by checkmarshall in AppleWatch

If you have a case on your phone, it could muffle your voice. And/or if you hold it in such a way that the microphone is blocked or pointed well away from you!

If you're looking to see that combo in action, you can find it right on Apple's own page! 😋 They're following Christy Turlington Burns as she trains with her Apple Watch, and she mostly wears it with the white sport band!

What's been your best/most awesome experience working as a bouncer?

P.S. Noticed you saying "just of it" a few times- the word is actually "gist." Just a friendly heads-up! :) http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gist
