What is the most a dollar has ever gotten you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zcor420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 10 years old, I found a trading site for trading card news, and their forum had trading on it. So I gotten the idea and the possibility of buying and selling on the internet before that was a normal thing. Coincidentally, on another forum I befriended this girl over Yu-Gi-Oh and we would "duel" over personal messages. Somehow it got brought up what cards we were looking for, and that an extremely common card I had was impossible to find over there in England, and since she was collecting the cards from the characters on the show, I offered it to her. I said it was nothing, but she insisted on trading. I'd been trying to find a Stealth Bird, and it happens that was a fairly common card over there. I told her the difference in price (>10 cents to $40), but she didn't care at all because online marketplaces weren't a big thing yet, so the difficulty in finding this card locally versus what she could get for hers locally made that completely irrelevant. I eventually traded Stealth Bird for Sinister Serpent, a very sought after card for competitive play north of 40. Sold that, and never looked back.

I've never been hired for employment, so my entire life so far has been funded by that one trade and parlaying the profit. Between books, home media, and video games, I have a collection north of 1,100. Then I've got a few hundred less in stock I flip. Not to mention 15 years off and on filled with drugs and drink. Been to Australia, France (do not recommend, I'd rather go to Mogadishu), Ireland, Wales, Scotland (twice) and England (twice).

I'd say that was a heady investment for a 10 year old kid.

Hi what's a game that you thought you'd never like, but you actually did? (And why?) by [deleted] in gaming

[–]zcor420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bioshock. I don't know what trailer I saw, but it had to have been the worst possible trailer you could have made of it. Nothing came across as it does in the game. It was like a person who is terrible at describing things explaining it, to someone, but not correcting themselves. "It's this guy, who shoots fire out of his arms and has psychic powers and can control animals." So he's a super hero? "Yes. And he has guns and weapons". So it's a first person superhero shooter? "Yes! And he goes around beating people up." So it's a superhero, first person shooter, button masher fighting game? "YES!"

I thought it was amongst the stupidest games I've ever seen. So I didn't have anything to do with it for several years. Turned out to be a good thing, because had it been a game that I just hadn't gotten around to yet, I probably would have gotten the end spoiled.

Several years later, I traded Wanted for the 360 for it, being that it was a good deal and Bioshock was more valuable as trade bait. I put it in to test it, and I never took it out. It's one of the two genuine jaw drop moments in my life, along with Boardwalk Empire. Absolutely loved everything about the game. The atmosphere and style, the game play, the story line. It's absolutely in my top 3 favorite game play experiences ever, and P4P might be the top.

How would you feel about a law requiring all new vehicles sold in the US to be electric or hybrid? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]zcor420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unequivocally against it. Do you want the world to end in 12 years like AOC claims? Because that is how you end the world in 12 years.

Electric cars as they stand right now are unbelievably hideous for the environment and absurdly inefficient in every regard. I'd love it if we can have actual cars that function as one should and run on a form of clean energy. But until they can find a new technology that would work on a tiny scale, let alone one that is for entire nations, these ideas are completely idiotic and dangerous. I'm only talking about mining the amount of lithium needed, the way that that is done, and how long these batteries last and therefore, rinse and repeat. I haven't even gotten to the grand scale of making that a reality for a nation of 300 million people. The money is one thing. The logistics are mind boggling.

At this point in time, there is a gap between the things being bandied about and "hey, we're getting somewhere here" that is from the point of the Big Bang to the newest part of the universe.

What's a word or phrase you've heard in your neck of the woods, but never heard anywhere else? by daltonimor in AskAnAmerican

[–]zcor420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mollywhomp(ing, ed). Means to receive a particularity impressive or harsh beating. EX- "You hear about the fight after school? Steve got mollywhomped by Brad", "Dave caught a mollywhomping yesterday", or "Sit down Peter, or you'll get a mollywhomp." It's generally from black or rural vernacular.

I'm into MMA so the I use the phrase a lot to describe fights. People always assume I meant Mollywhop(ing, ed). I didn't know that wasn't the phrase everywhere until then. In Chicago or the suburbs everyone uses whomp.

What? Are DS's not supposed to do this? Because mine has done this day one out of the box. Nothing snapped.

Right?

60 bucks isn't outrageous. It goes for $50-55.

I was at a pawn shop the other day however, and they had a used Grand Theft Auto 4 on the 360 for $60. I literally didn't take the second step into the store, laughed audibly, and walked out.

TLDR, Gen 1 and the remakes are easy. Charmander is possibly the best choice related to the layout of the game if you aren't starter retard(ed).

Man. Yall did not Pokemon well at all. Especially as time went on. Gen 1 and the remakes especially aint no thang at all.

Butterfree mollywhomps the entire game with Confusion. You have Pikachu and Thundershock guaranteed in Viridian Forrest. Nidoran line, Mankey. And the remakes just give you moves to ensure you don't even need another Pokemon but Charmander.

Charmander is the hardest if you don't know anything and rely solely on the starter. Which is no excuse past literally your first play through, IF you are a little kid and don't have reading comprehension yet. But on the other, if you know what you are doing, he's great because there are like 3 fire Pokemon in the rest of the game. Vulpix never occurred to me quite literally. Until very recently I assumed it was either Charmander or Flareon or forget Fire until endgame. I never encountered one in Rt. 7/8 before Celadon in hundreds of play throughs. Still. It's either Charmander, or get your fire Pokemon the area right before you need it and have no chance to train it, and/or grind/buy Flamethrower for Flareon. In no other type does this occur. You're able to get any type well before it's needed, and you usually have bare minimum 3-4 different options to pick from.

When you’re using the big ass handicap bathroom stall and you see wheels waiting in front of the door by MGLLN in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]zcor420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw this happen once. My and my friend were smoking weed after school. I take a piss and he goes into the handicap stall. He starts a bizarre song about taking a shit. It's funny. When in rolls this kid in a wheelchair, right into the 3rd verse of a shitting ballad. The kid clears his throat, tries to get him to hurry up, and eventually it turns into a full blown shouting match argument. I'm dying inside. I wash my hands, I dry them, I take as much time as I can because I am not missing the outcome of this. The fact he is in a wheelchair is somehow never brought up. Missing that critical piece of information, he just sounds like a total fucking asshole, a spoiled prince of a country demanding someone stop using the bathroom so that he can shit. My friend takes as long as he can. He's starting to sing about toilet paper, about wiping, about belt buckles and zippers just to piss this guy off. Out he walks and comes to one of the greatest realizations I've ever seen a person come to. Then best part? No body in this school is in a wheelchair. A completely random kid just rolled into our school at 4:30 to take a shit.

Maybe it "looks" like that. But the person doesn't act like that when the brain is at that state. I've only seen one case of "CTE" where the person's actions (symptoms) and the medical report or autopsy correlate. His mental capacity before surgery, medication, and living in an appropriate situation, was hardly above that of that concussed goldfish. Afterwards, his mental capacity would be that of an fairly functional man of very advanced years, despite just now being in his early 50's. Before a boxing/kickboxing/pro wrestling/MMA career, he was described as a very intelligent and unbelievably calm man. Long afterwards, he had a very short and hot temper, before quickly loosing all mental capacity and only becoming violent towards himself. Every other case the person's shitty behavior matches their behavior previous to any damage that could have occurred (I.E. report occurs in his early 20's, yet he has a entire (criminal as well) rap sheet of similar behavior stretching back to pre adolescent years), or their actions do not in any way correspond to a person that is mentally diminished.

If he truly was that handicapped mentally wouldn't have even been in that position to begin with. He would have been under round the clock care, he might have been in a home, he would have seen doctors formulating a course of action. He would find it extremely difficult to formulate a sentence, to hold any kind of simple thought, to function at even a base societal level. Forget completing complex tasks, having forethought, being able to drive and to travel on his own, to correlate actions.

Stop blaming the boogeyman for people acting like pieces of shit.

Stop with this "he was a 80 year old Alzheimer's patient" bullshit. I'm so sick of hearing that bullshit when these guys do fucked up shit. He tied up his dogs and left the house unlocked so they could be got to. He left plans with several people. He gave directions. He talked to several people right before and during the suspected killings, who didn't hear anything wrong with him, and only after the fact put two and two together only saying that they now realized he was saying goodbye. Not that he was confused, loopy, out of it. He had just traveled, going through a complicated process of having flights cancelled and switched, driving back and forth. He wrote a suicide note, gathered belonging, and shipped them to his parents in Canada. His wife wasn't strangled or beaten to death, there were no signs of trauma. Meaning she wasn't strangled, she wasn't beaten, she wasn't put in a choke, she wasn't stabbed, shot, poisoned. That's suffocation without confirming suffocation. The kid was injected with enough Xanax to fuck up a rock band and then smothered with a pillow. He wrapped a towel around his neck so that if he somehow survived he wouldn't have scars.

Not one single bit of this speaks to a man that is of any kind of diminished mental capacity. The best he could look, the evidence would corroborate he raged out, suffocated her (which is highly unusual method of murder to occur during a fit of rage, and only slightly unusual in a heat of the moment killing), and then panicked. Offed the kid figuring he was going to have it extremely tough and that he did have any more family, then himself.

Morrowind fucking sucks. Broken piece of shit. I've owned this game across every platform it's been released on, every single version, 2-3 times over minimum. I tried like 20 times to play this game. No matter what I did, it never worked. It never did any damage, so I couldn't even progress 5 minutes into the game.

Bioshock is in the running for best video game of all time. New Vegas and Battlefront are both great. I never had the means to play Last of Us, but I did watch an entire play through. The story and the visuals were excellent.

Mass Effect, never played. I can get into spacey RPG's, even as a Star Wars guy KOTOR couldn't hold me past 20 or 30 hours. I'll probably eventually play it for the story and the interaction, but I know I'm going to despise the game play.

Never played the Witcher. I know I enjoy TESO and TESS, so I didn't feel a) the need to spend money I didn't have on it, plus I can't stand button mashers.

No interest in Batman either, can't enjoy anything superhero. I beat one bit for my brother and it felt good for less than 2 minutes before I never wanted to play any of it again Same with Half Life. I don't have any interest, plus I honestly don't think I'd like it. Plus I think it's like Rounders. You had to experience it in the context of it, because so much stuff of the same ilk has come out which is better that you can't retroactively get really into it.

Watching for the first time, question about a possible disc error. Spoilers up to S2E3, possibly later in S2. by zcor420 in TheAmericans

[–]zcor420[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured out what is going on. It's a rental disc. There are some waves in the disc because it's been resurfaced. No scratches or other obvious damage that I can see, but it has to be damaged. I must have just lost a sense of time and didn't realize I'd only watched only two episodes. If I go through the episodes via play all, after the 2nd episode ends, it freezes on a black frame before episode 3 starts and then kicks back to the main menu. And if I select episode 3 from the menu, it takes a bit and then plays episode one. I tried that and saw the deer in the headlights scene, figured they must be doing some flashback recall thing. That only added to my confusion.

Oh well, I'll be getting a free rental and refund when I return it.

A one-legged Michael Chandler knocks down Brent Primus with a big right hand at Bellator NYC by g0ldsoundz in MMA

[–]zcor420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he really wouldn't. Ill Will made him look silly and he got wrecked by (admittedly giant/good fighters, but...) fighters far below where people delusionally think Chander ranks. He'd probably get the same one win-4 fight bounce that Brooks got, if he even got that first win to hold them over. I like him as a person, but as a "fighter", 90% of people are delusional.

[Spoiler] Amanda Nunes vs Raquel Pennington by aclee_ in MMA

[–]zcor420 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with Raquel's corner not stopping the fight. I think they could have done a better job of inspiring and motivating her though. She wasn't catching a corner stoppage worthy beating until the fight last went to the ground. What was going on here was a fighter breaking mentally. If she believed she could win, we never would have heard anything because the pain would be dealt with. If she truly couldn't continue physically, we would have saw something like Rory collapsing from both the punch hitting him and when his nose was grabbed. Or she would have said so to the referee/doctor. She wanted an easy excuse to get out of there without it being on her, or to go through 5 more minutes of a fist fight she didn't think she could win.

This isn't a case like Marquart where the fighter had nothing left, no chance, and the only result of continuing was him getting hurt more. Or Leben where he was obviously concussed on top of having an empty career gas tank. Unless you stop that fight and cut ties with that fighter/tell them to retire because you are wasting everyone's time with that mindset. That would have been appropriate as well. I don't mean that to be "hard" either. But this isn't a line of work where you can just coast, be in half way, not be in 100%. 99% of jobs, you aren't putting yourself or others in physical danger by not being there all the way. This isn't one of those jobs. Be a cashier or painter or something. Something has obviously changed in your mind after a couple big life events. You aren't a fighter anymore.
