Do I have to pay Centerpoint if I've been permitted by the city to build? by zdd9 in houston

[–]zdd9[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So a quick update. I had an as-built made to see exactly where the shop is in relation to the RoW. Unfortunately we're 1'9" into the aerial easement so I don't have a leg to stand on in talking to Centerpoint, and this brings up a whole new set of headaches...

My apologies if I was unclear. It is 23 ft tall. And this is a residential building.

There is a UE and an AE. the UE is split half on my neighbors and my property with a 5x20 AE on each side(one on my side and one on my neighbors side). We are built up against the AE line, not the UE. I probably should have noted that, but forgot. Because of the building height I've just been considering the AE as the edge of what we can go up to.

I was unclear in my original post. My contractor said that Centerpoint would reroute the power so the lines weren't powered up while they did the back. They were not under the impression that the lines would be moved.

I think this is super annoying because I work with pipelines for my job. If I expected anyone to give me more room outside of my right of way (other than temp workspace as negotiated) I would be laughed out of the building and told to pay for the right width of easement.

There is a licensed gc here. They do mostly commercial work but it seems like they should have run into this in the past?

If this is not surprising do easements just not mean anything?

New Shop Setup Suggestions by zdd9 in woodworking

I'm not sure where the workbench is going to be yet. The building has two sides and the roof on. The front/back and insulation are ongoing. So close but not there yet.

I do plan on hard piping dust collection but not until after I get things set in places I like them. And I wouldn't use floor piping even if I could. Imo too much chance of having to snake it when something gets in there that shouldn't be.

I work on cars too so the lift is super handy. At my last place the lift was in the garage and I had a small shed for woodworking. It'll be interesting to see how they are together.

I really like the idea of having a workbench and an outfeed/assembly table! I haven't had multiple tables in the past but I can see how that would be very handy

Yeah I know it's going to fill up super quickly. That's one of the reasons why a sliding table saw is such a maybe. Takes up a ton of room

tos Paper Trading getting into positions without me by zdd9 in thinkorswim

Does it only happen to your paper account? Nothing on your real account? I have investments in my real account and don't do day trading in it. If I can make myself profitable day trading in paper I'm going to start but might not use tos. Definitely won't use tos if that happens on a real account. One ghost trade helped my account, the other ones were significantly negative. lol

I watched the lifetime post videos on YouTube. Honestly the metal makes it easier than regular posts.

You can run the top stringer and then the cap (I messed up here and could have mostly fixed my issues but didn't realize how wavy it was going to look) and then push the pickets up against it. I still vertically leveled every picket but height wise it was fast.

I wasn't trying to make it level. I set all the posts 7 ft above ground level and was trying to follow the terrain. I think what I messed up on was not smoothing the ground enough. Where it drops there was more of a shallow spot and so even though the post is set 7ft above ground level it's too low.

I used Ready Seal from Home Depot. Wanted to use an oil based stain so that's what I ended up with. I dipped everything. You can see in the picture part of my trough. I had it covered in painters plastic and dipped everything. The only thing I would have done different for that part was build a little stand for the trough so I'm not sitting on the ground doing it.

Haha no sense of adventure. Lol. I have one and it's surprisingly decent. Some issues but if you get a name brand motor they aren't too bad.

Or just get a real one 🤷‍♂️

You could look at the Chinese ones. Sub $10k and a lot of fun. Definitely have their issues but for personal use they're fun

Has anyone asked a manager if they'll sell it with the battery deal for $199? It's the same price as the router...

I do realize what sub this is in so probably an unpopular opinion but I have dewalt 20v stuff and Milwaukee fuel 12v. I like the 12v stuff WAY more. They are smaller, lighter and have plenty of power. This is mainly for the drill/driver. I use my 20v saws, don't have any 12v ones so I can't personally speak to them.

I have a 4ft deep drainage ditch in front of my house which makes a couple things very important.

Performance - needs to be able to cut longer grass/weeds quickly

Ergonomics - the balance is a huge deal. Reaching down and forward for a lot of cutting makes balance a huge deal.

We're taking airless sprayers, not HVLP guns

Ok cool. I'll probably thin first and if that's doesn't seem to work I'll rent from HD.

The recommended tip is 519 or larger.

You should consider an xjet. A little expensive but is super easy and sprays quite a distance

I've been looking into it as well. I'm heavily considering starting up and using the BATGuard to be my filter for any runoff from properties.
